New Release: Veritas Installation Assessment Service and VOS Labs Updates - June 2009

The VIAS application was updated on June 30th to include new features and enhanced functionality. New enhancements include:

  • Improved 'My VIAS' functionality and navigation (sign in or register at the top of the home page)
  • Ability to share uploaded host reports (Share Group feature in 'My VIAS')
  • Enhanced process to save reports
  • Updated Help and services documentation

Additionally, enhancements were made to services available on our VOSLabs site. New enhancements include:

General Availability Date: 6/5/2009
Product Description:
The Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 RU1 release is based on 5.0 MP3 RP2 and includes support for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11. All issues in RU1 are cumulative since the 5.0 release. However, Veritas Storage Foundation for DB2, Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle, and Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System RAC are not available in the Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 RU1 release because Oracle and DB2 have not yet provided support for databases on SLES 11. Additionally, there is no support for Xen kernel on SLES11 in the RU1 release.

vxvm downgrade from 5.0 to 4.1

There is once a time that I was tasked to downgrade vxvm from 5.0 to 4.1,  after the downgrade, all dgs are unable to import with some invalid configuration.  After gone through all the relevant document, I couldn't fnd any references. After open a case with symantec, I got the finial confirmation this is not supported and data backup & restore must follow the downgrade of binary vxvm software.

Having said that, my task was still there, without being supported, I still need to action this task and after several tests, it went through.  Pls note, this is NOT supported by symantec and you should NOT try this on production environment with proper backup in place.  Make a backup either from application level like file system level, or from lower level like disk level with such as EMC bcv etc etc.
