Before virtualizing mission-critical applications, enterprises must be confident their virtualization solution provides visibility, availability, failover and load balancing. In VMware environments, these advanced features haven't been available with VMware native multi-pathing tool. The new Dynamic Multi-Pathing for VMware offers the flexibility of multi-pathing to any VMware guest VM, and supports nearly 70% of storage arrays.

We're pleased to announce the general availability of Veritas Dynamic Multi-Pathing for VMware.

Veritas™ Dynamic Multi-Pathing for VMware from Symantec helps you manage virtualized I/O paths through multiple algorithms and intelligent load balancing from inside the VMware environment. This deep visibility and advanced multi-pathing provides the availability and resiliency needed to confidently virtualize mission-critical applications Storage I/O performance and availability for VMware ESX attached storage improves through intelligent algorithms and load balancing for faster throughput. It increases virtual machine and application availability by rerouting I/Os to other available data paths in the event of a storage path failure and automatically restores failed paths that become healthy.

Additionally, Dynamic Multi-Pathing for VMware integrates into VMware vCenter to provide administrative and monitoring capability within the VMware environment, as well as...

As IT organizations continue to rapidly deploy virtualization, ensuring availability of applications in their virtual environments is critical. Since its initial launch last year, Symantec ApplicationHA helped numerous customers quickly and automatically recover from a wide range of application and infrastructure failures inside virtual machines.

Symantec recently announced the latest release of Symantec ApplicationHA 6.0 for Windows. This release includes integration of Symantec ApplicationHA with Symantec Backup Exec which takes application availability to a new  level by providing another level of remediation to recover from failures in VMware virtual environments. This new feature provides virtual machine image restoration as a possible remediation mechanism if application restart and virtual machine restart both fail in recovering an application. In the event of a corrupt virtual machine or OS image, Symantec ApplicationHA coordinates with...

It’s that time of year again; my car needs a service to ready it for the coming winter. It’s only August and around 25°C here in the UK.  It’s amazing how quick the weather turns these days; on comes the wind and the rain and before you know it there are signs for Halloween and Christmas in the shops.  So upon the topic of servicing the car,  I mentioned in passing this morning to my partner that I should book the car in for its service and her response was “Can’t you do that yourself and save some money?”. Of course I probably could. Thinking about it for that moment, but it’s much easier for someone who knows what they are doing to do this for me. I may of course save some money if I did it myself, but saving money doesn’t always mean saving me time. Also I’m sure she was thinking of spending the savings on a pair of shoes or something else and that’s one battle I would lose.

Let’s think...

Today Symantec announced the latest release of ApplicationHA, a new solution that provides high availability for business critical applications through application-level visibility, control and recovery in VMware environments. We’re particularly excited about this new release as it addresses some key concerns shared by data center administrators as they virtualize their infrastructures.

Administrators are cautious with virtualizing their applications as their criticality grows. Symantec’s recent Virtualization and Evolution to the Cloud Survey concluded that in spite of executives’ concerns, more than 59 percent plan to virtualize database applications in the next 12 months. We see that tier 3 applications are virtualized more than tier 2 and tier 2 more than tier 1. There...

To maximize efficiency of current IT resources, organizations are virtualizing an increasing number of applications in the data center.  There are many benefits from virtualization such as cost savings for power, cooling and space.  However, not all IT organizations are comfortable with the risk involved when virtualizing business critical applications.  There are several reasons for this.  For example with basic VMware HA, customers do not have visibility into application availability and often issues must be resolved manually after being reported by people using the services that application provides. Current solutions around this either degrade performance or eliminate VMware functionality like vMotion and DRS, resulting in most customers not virtualizing their business critical applications.  Symantec is now announcing ApplicationHA.

To solve the virtualization challenges, Symantec ApplicationHA leverages VMware HA’s app-awareness API to...
