Symantec today announced the release of Storage Foundation 6.1 and Cluster Server 6.1. This release enables organizations to adopt Flash/SSD for mission-critical workloads for increased and reliable performance without compromising on availability. This release also further enhances the high-availability and disaster recovery capabilities which our customers already use.

New features in this release include:

  • SmartIO - Granular, online caching at the application level. With SmartIO, application architects, server administrators, and database administrators can move reads and writes inside the server. In lab tests replicating real-world use-cases, SmartIO delivers up to 400% performance improvement while reducing storage costs by 80%.
  • Flexible Storage Sharing (FSS) - Simplify SSD/Flash adoption and realize...

The 6.1 release of Storage Foundation High Availability introduces SmartIO which enables customers to increase application performance and reduce storage costs while maintaining availability of data and applications.

Introduction

SmartIO takes advantage of internal Solid State Storage (SSD) devices to provide an intelligent, distributed caching layer to serve more reads and writes from inside the host, effectively decoupling front-end IOPs from back-end capacity.   SmartIO allows customers to cache at the Volume (VxVM), File System (VxFS), and file level for highly granular control of application performance and utilization of the solid state device.  SmartIO utilizes advanced heuristics to maximize the effectiveness of cache population and eviction to ensure the most relevant data is stored within SmartIO’s cache areas.  SmartIO can also tie...

DCIG (Data Center Infrastructure Group Inc.) released their High Availability and Clustering Software Buyer's Guide that weights, scores and ranks over 60 features on 13 different software solutions from 10 different software providers. Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) achieved the "Best-in-Class" ranking and earned the top spot in this inaugural DCIG High Availability and Clustering Software Buyer's Guide.

Veritas Cluster Server earned the only “Best-in-Class” ranking, and for good reason. We ranked “Best-in-Class” and/or “Excellent” in all the categories that DCIG used for evaluation. Categories included operating environment and management capabilities....

Crash - Data Center Down | 01 May 2013 | 0 comments

Last time on Data Center Down, Crash detailed the meeting of several IT “Super Friends” at the 3rd Annual Red Hat Partner Conference, held in January.

Let’s first take a moment to tip our own hats to two Focus Partners who took home awards: Emergent, LLC, was named Partner of the Year for demonstrating the highest level of commitment to Red Hat through their engagement and investments. DLT Solutions was honored as Public Sector Virtualization Partner of the Year for collaborating to create exceptional growth in the virtualization ecosystem.

Now that I’ve acquainted you with my data architecture allies, I’d like to introduce the Lex Luthor of our realm: Storage.

If you’ve ever struggled to integrate paths across physical and virtual environments, suffered from downtime while upgrading applications, or lost data during migration...
