Join us at Symantec's biggest annual user conference at Vision 2011, which will be at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas between May 2nd and 5th. The Storage and Availability Management team will bring you new information about our latest products including:

  • Veritas Operations Manager 4.0 or VOM, which enables administrators to manage heterogeneous applications, server and storage environments with a single pane of glass. VOM is a free comprehensive management platform for Storage Foundation and Cluster Server environments enabling customers to maximize their investments while automating operations and therefore minimizing IT costs.
  • Our virtualization offerings, such as VirtualStore and ApplicationHA, help companies protect applications in virtual machines and reduce the storage costs that come with going virtual.

Announcing three beta add-ons for Veritas Operations Manager (VOM). These add-ons can make VOM more powerful and better aligned to your needs:

  • Scripting - allows administrators to store their scripts on the Operations Manager central management server, execute them on selected hosts or on a Business Entity, and monitor the script output status.
  • Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) password management - allows administrators to modify non-secure clusters user's authentication password
  • Package anomaly - compares a set of servers against a set of packages in an attempt to find systems that are non-standard or have installations different than other similar or related systems in the data center

Data Insight Technology Overview

The management of unstructured data is a very large problem. We’ve learned through customer conversations and surveys that in many organizations, unstructured data – files like documents, email, reports, letters, research notes, IP, presentations – represents up to 80% of an organization’s data.  This file data can spread among many systems and departments and migrate among systems as the storage infrastructure has grown. As a result of the data migrations or data center consolidation projects, many of the files are labeled as being owned by “Administrators” which makes it difficult for IT to centrally establish who in the enterprise actually owns the data.

Identifying data owners is critical for a number of IT initiatives and lack of data owner identification is a barrier to large-scale remediation and business process. Symantec Data Insight monitors file usage and derives...

Late last year, we changed the name of Veritas Operations Services (VOS) to Symantec Operations Readiness Tools (SORT) [http://sort.symantec.com]  and we enhanced the site to help new users understand more about the available features.

As you’ve likely seen, the main SORT webpage is geared toward educating new users about SORT features and functions.

For previous VOS users, we suggest going directly to the MySORT page (http://mysort.symantec.com).  MySORT is the old VOS home page with a few minor changes.  You’ll see a color template difference but the old VOS functionality is still there including enhancements based on previously received feedback.

If you just want to use the tools and services, go to the MySORT page and get started (http://mysort.symantec.com).  You can generate reports for...

The sixth annual Symantec Disaster Recovery Study demonstrates the challenges that data center managers have in managing disparate virtual, physical and cloud resources. These ever-changing resources add complexity for organizations protecting and recovering mission-critical applications and data. In fact, the data found virtual machines are not properly protected due to resource and other storage constraints that hamper backups.

Check out the 2010 Symantec Disaster Recovery Study.

We’ve released a next generation version of Veritas Operations Services (VOS) called Symantec Operations Readiness Tools (SORT).

SORT contains all previously available features and functionality that came with VOS but it now includes a new interface, new name, and additional functionality to help you and your customers work smarter, not harder.   (Note: all previously bookmarked or memorized VOS urls will automatically map to the appropriate SORT urls)

What’s new in SORT (http://sort.symantec.com):

  • A new landing page to educate and train visitors about SORT, it’s value, and available functionality
  • A new functional user interface (via http://mysort.symantec.com) that reduces the number of click needed to use key features in the dashboard widgets (My SORT is an updated version of the VOS widget dashboard)
  • Enhanced Windows detailed...

Building great products is never an accident. Often the difference between good and great products is not the coolest technology or the meanest performing gadget. It is its laser focus on addressing a pressing customer challenge as quickly as possible with the best of breed technologies.

VMware and Symantec have been working feverishly as one team in doing just that over the past few months in addressing a significant customer challenge around application-aware high availability.

Both companies had individually heard from their respective (and often overlapping) customers about the need for application level visibility, control, and high availability in VMware ecosystem. Lack of a good solution that addresses this need had been preventing customers from bringing virtualization benefits to business critical tier1 application – a significant challenge impacting customers’ virtualization initiatives.

It just took one 30 minute conference call between...

Hello Connect Users,

If you attended the Vision Conference last month, you learned about the latest in storage management and high availability / disaster recovery (HA/DR) technologies that Symantec is offering.  Of course, if you were on-site it is difficult to make it to all of the sessions, so we have videos available from several of the presentations that you may watch on-demand.  If you were not able to make it to Vegas, now is a great chance to see these sessions at your fingertips.  Here is a listing of the available videos:
