Virtualization is everywhere, but IT organizations are still looking for ways to cut costs.  One way to do that, is to…  virtualize even more applications!  However, the easy stuff has been done.  File and print servers, cafeteria menus and the company picnic blog have been virtualized.  The next step is to move up the chain and virtualize business and mission critical applications.  But the risks of virtualization are still there.  How do I monitor and protect my application and business services in the event of a failure, or even a site wide disaster?  What happens to the performance or availability of my data when a path connecting a virtual machine to the storage fails?  These are the roadblocks that are preventing IT organizations from virtualizing more of their business critical services and applications.  The good news is Symantec can help!

Symantec is announcing a new version of...

Overview

A majority of an organization’s information is unstructured, and data growth is exploding. Despite best efforts and significant investments, IT lacks critical insights, such as who owns the data and how it’s being used. This leads to significant challenges in managing an organization’s data governance objectives – protecting important business data, achieving regulatory compliance and driving down costs and improving efficiency to manage this rapid data growth.

What is Data Insight?

Symantec Data Insight helps organizations improve data governance through data owner identification and visibility into data usage and access permissions. With these insights into the data, organizations are able to manage data growth in order to reduce costs, protect the data from security risks and manage compliance.

Data Management and Storage Optimization:

  • Discover inactive or orphan...

As IT organizations continue to rapidly deploy virtualization, ensuring availability of applications in their virtual environments is critical. Since its initial launch last year, Symantec ApplicationHA helped numerous customers quickly and automatically recover from a wide range of application and infrastructure failures inside virtual machines.

Symantec recently announced the latest release of Symantec ApplicationHA 6.0 for Windows. This release includes integration of Symantec ApplicationHA with Symantec Backup Exec which takes application availability to a new  level by providing another level of remediation to recover from failures in VMware virtual environments. This new feature provides virtual machine image restoration as a possible remediation mechanism if application restart and virtual machine restart both fail in recovering an application. In the event of a corrupt virtual machine or OS image, Symantec ApplicationHA coordinates with...

Symantec today announced a major refresh to its Storage and Availability Management portfolio to help customers build the private cloud they want by transforming their existing infrastructure. Symantec’s high availability solutions will enable users to architect resilient private clouds with fast local or global recovery of complete business services and data replication across any distance to meet their recovery time/point objectives. Symantec can orchestrate the recovery of a business service, even if its components (various databases, application servers, and web servers) run on different operating systems or virtualization technologies.

As more IT organizations move to the cloud, Symantec’s new storage management offerings will also help IT organizations manage and deliver elastic, resilient storage for cloud workloads by providing the ability to scale storage capacity up or down while applications remain online and reducing the storage footprint...

Today Symantec announced the latest release of ApplicationHA, a new solution that provides high availability for business critical applications through application-level visibility, control and recovery in VMware environments. We’re particularly excited about this new release as it addresses some key concerns shared by data center administrators as they virtualize their infrastructures.

Administrators are cautious with virtualizing their applications as their criticality grows. Symantec’s recent Virtualization and Evolution to the Cloud Survey concluded that in spite of executives’ concerns, more than 59 percent plan to virtualize database applications in the next 12 months. We see that tier 3 applications are virtualized more than tier 2 and tier 2 more than tier 1. There are a few key challenges along...
