Symantec Certification Program

Symantec Certified Specialist (SCS) - The first step to validate technical knowledge and competency is to become a Symantec Certified Specialist (SCS) based on your specific area of product expertise with Symantec products. Although each product varies in complexity and depth, all SCS certification exams are created specifically for customers and cover core elements measuring technical knowledge against factors such as installation, configuration, deployment, product management & administration, and day-to-day maintenance. To achieve this level of certification, candidates must pass one proctored SCS exam based on a combination of Symantec training material, commonly referenced product documentation, and real-world job tasks. Certification is optional for partners and employees, and is not a requirement to achieve Symantec Partner Program designation and benefits.

Symantec Certified Professional (SCP) - The second step to proving technical knowledge and competency is by becoming a Symantec Certified Professional (SCP) based on a specific area of solution expertise with multiple Symantec products. The Symantec Certified Professional (SCP) program validates skills and technical competencies necessary for Symantec professionals to design, architect, and implement multiple solutions in data protection, high availability, and/or security environments. To achieve this level of certification, candidates must pass two or more SCS exams, pass one SCP exam, and/or provide proof of the program’s required third party vendor-neutral industry recognized prerequisite.

Your Thoughts RE: Symantec Certification Program for 2011-2012

I am working with the Global Sales & Services Education Enablement Leadership team to develop our key initiatives/strategies for 2012 and beyond.  I would love to hear your thoughts on what you would like to see in the Symantec Certification Program for 2011-2012.  I have some specific questions, but welcome all input.  What value do end users/you want in a technical certification program? Do you value CompTIA?  Why? Who are CompTIA’s competitors? What new certification tracks, if any, should we develop?  Why? What benefits would you like to see us add to the program? How important is availability of prep materials?  What type of prep materials (training, books, online classes, sample exams, etc.) do you prefer?  Is this required at all levels of certification or just the higher levels? What is working well in the program - that we should definitely continue?  Why?...
