Get the highlights of what is happening around the Symantec community delivered right to your inbox. Sign up for the Connect Newsletter where we’ll feature popular articles and other content. Plus, you’ll get an update on your Connect Rewards balance.

We’re conscious that the volume in your e-mail box can become a bit overwhelming. That’s why the newsletter will appear in your email box only once a month (unless in the future you tell us you want it more.) And you can make sure your newsletter contains information you’re interested in receiving. Connect is divided into different communities, and so are the newsletters. To customize your newsletter to meet your particular interests, you can visit your Symantec Connect user profile and click “Newsletters.” Then, click the newsletters you’re interested in getting. (Each community sends a newsletter approximately one time a month.)

Last week we hosted the Endpoint Management and Virtualization Trusted Advisor Retreat. We had a fabulous time. And met some really great people.

We began with a great dinner at a local restaurant where we ate good food and had fun getting to know one another and laughing. The next morning we woke up nice and early and left the beautiful Grand America hotel and traveled to the Symantec offices in Lindon, UT.

Peter McKellar shared interesting statistics about Connect and then presented the roadmap for the future for the site. The Trusted Advisors shared their opinions and ideas on how to improve the site. For example, we discussed how to refine the creation process on the site, how to streamline the graphics on the site, expanding the Trusted Advisor permissions, and streamline the ability to moderate the site.

Then Leslie Miller reviewed the Trusted Advisor program itself. Did you know that Trusted Advisors make up .009%  of the membership of Connect, but...

We've been impressed with the amount of Connect users who have willingly shared their Rewards points to help those who have been affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

Now, with the massive earthquake in Chile, there are a whole new group of people who are in need of your help. Contributions made to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund will go to the areas where they are most needed. Including both Haiti and Chile. Simply redeem your Connect Rewards points for the United Way donation, and your donation will go to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Relief Fund. Gifts to the Fund support long-term recovery efforts to rebuild lives and infrastructure devastated by disaster and to address educational, financial and health-related challenges.

In addition, Connect will match whatever our users donate through Symantec Connect Rewards Points* so your contribution really is worth double.

To help, redeem here.

We’ve recently implemented a new interface for creating content on Connect. Our goal was to make creating content easier and more user friendly. It should also help content appear in an organized format. Let me introduce you to this new form:

First, choose the language, title and text for your post.

New Create 2
New Create 3

Next, you’ll need to choose where the post will appear.

New Create 4

After you have selected a community, you’ll need to choose a product, and if appropriate, the version you are using.

As you may have noticed, the rewards program catalog has seen some changes recently. We're excited to announce that you now have more options. Through the variety of gift cards offered (particularly Amazon.com) you can receive any of the items previously offered, and more!  And at the same rates.

The change was made strictly due to financial reasons. It's very expensive to ship items around the world. Often we found that we were paying 7 or 8 times the cost of the items just to ship them. Those are costs that are tough to justify, especially in these tough economic times. We had a couple of options:

  • Increase the cost of rewards across the board (which would have penalized all of our users).
  • Charge shipping back to the recipient (which would have penalized our non-US users).
  • Go to an electronic redemption model.

Hopefully, electronic redemption will work out for everyone. We will be adding more electronic...

The “Trusted Advisor” designation is given to an elite group of Symantec Connect community members who voluntarily share their expertise and experience with the Symantec Connect Community. Trusted Advisors are identified in the community with a special badge and are the front line of support for community users. Trusted Advisors are not Symantec Corp. employees.

Nomination Procedure

To be eligible for consideration for Trusted Advisor status, users must have been part of the community for a minimum of 120 days. Exceptions must be approved by the Trusted Advisor committee. The user must be fully active within the community and be willing to accept the roles and responsibilities of a Trusted Advisor. Symantec employees are not eligible for Trusted Advisor status. Nominations for Trusted Advisor may be made by anyone by emailing the following information to leslie_miller@symantec.com....

There have been a number of questions about what the little pieces of pie next to usernames mean. It is simply a quick, visual way for users to identify the lifetime contributions that different users have made to the site. Where possible, we have transferred over status from the Juice, STN and the Altiris Support Forums. (For example, STN users received 3 points for every post on the old site. Juice user points transferred straight across.) You can find out how you can earn points that contribute to your status here.
