  • Added a "Request split solution" option that gives the author of a forum post the ability to mark multiple comments as solutions to their problem. This feature also distributes the award points equally between the solution authors.
  • Added code that emails the author of a solution when their comment is marked as such.
  • Removed errant partner badges from posts made by Symantec employees.
  • Added a redemption option to the Rewards Catalog for Amazon.cn (China).

Help Topic: Receiving Connect Notifications in Microsoft Outlook Using an RSS Feed

Want to receive Connect notificationsf in your Outlook RSS folder? It's a great way to find out what's new in the areas that interest you on the Connect site, without cluttering your Inbox with notifications. Just follow these few steps to get up and running with a Connect RSS feed in Microsoft Outlook:

Note: The RSS feed only captures new posts, not comments made.

1.       Go to Symantec Connect www.symantec.com/connect, and right-click on the RSS Feed orange logo at the level that you want to save your RSS (in this example, for all Cluster Server Forums) and click Copy Link Address.

2.       Go to MS Outlook, and right-click on RSS Feeds from your mailbox list.

  • Added a "My Notifications" link to the Account menu.
  • Updated private message notifications to include the title of the private message in the email subject line.
  • Added the ability for authors of Official Symantec Blogs to enable moderation on comments posted to their blogs.
  • Enhanced the parent/child group functionality to: (1) allow a child group to have different privacy settings than the parent group; and (2) allow the hiding of child groups from users who are not members of the parent group.
  • Improved the reward points transaction logs by adding better descriptions of (and hyperlinks to) the activities the user performed to earn the points.
  • Fixed an issue with an "updated" label being displayed on "new" posts.

  • Improved the code that imports Accreditation and Certification levels achieved by Connect users. Also refreshed the database to reflect the latest Accreditation and Certification info on Connect user profile pages.
  • Changed who can mark forum posts as solved (and who can clear a previous solution).

  • Added a Workflow tab that authors can use to move their submissions through Connect's workflow states. This new feature also gives authors and Community Managers the ability to attach notes to each step of a submission's workflow. See the attached workflow image for an example.
  • Enhanced navigation in the forum area of the site by adding dropdown capability to the forum name in the main navigation. Hovering over the forum name now presents the user with links to the other forums in the current community.
  • Added a facet to the search results page that allows you to filter your search results by language.
  • Hyperlinked the community names in the main navigation so users can more quickly navigate to a target community's overview page.

  • Added more robust image upload tool that allows you to:
    • Upload images to a personal directory on the server.
    • Browse your uploaded images.
    • Resize your uploaded images.
    • Generate thumbnails (small versions) of your images.
    • Delete your uploaded images.
  • Added code that displays the Badgeville badges a user earns through Symantec partner activities.
  • Added a popup that displays when you mouse over a username. The popup displays details about the user and allows you to easily subscribe to receive email notifications when the target user posts.
  • Fixed an issue with our iCal export that was exporting the incorrect event time to our members in Arizona.

  • Added an RSS Wizard that lets users build an RSS URL that pulls targeted information from Connect based on community, content type, product and more. We've documented this new feature (for easy future reference) in the Connect FAQ.
  • Since the first question asked in reply to many forum posts is, "What operating system are you using?", we've added the ability to tag your forum post with a relevant operating system.
  • Added the ability for users to add a status message to their user profile page.
  • Fixed an issue in user Workspaces (Account -> My Workspace) so clicking the 'comments' tab will correctly display the comments you've posted.
  • Removed the phrase "I need a solution" from items that display on a user's activity feed (Account > My Profile)

Symantec Secures 27 Honors from Redmond Magazine

Redmond Magazine recently announced the winners of its 2013 Reader’s Choice “Best of the Best” Awards and Symantec came out on top, winning the highest number of awards for a single company this year.  Symantec was honored with 27 awards – 7 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze – with great representation across our diverse portfolio of products.

Redmond Magazine’s 2013 Reader’s Choice Awards seeks to give the customers’ view of which non-Microsoft tools they prefer to configure, optimize, secure, manage and host Microsoft’s core products including Windows, SharePoint, System Server, Exchange, Active Directory and SQL Server. Surveys were sent out to thousands of readers, with responses collected and then examined by a team of experts for accuracy (vendors were not eligible to vote).

  • Added intelligence to the content submission forms to auto-populate the product field if the user initiates a submission from within a product context -- from a product forum, for example.
  • Improved the behavior of the private message interface by having it return to the Message List screen (instead of the Create Message screen) after a new message is sent.
  • Fixed an issue that was allowing forum posts -- in some edge cases -- to be tagged with more than one product (and display in more than one forum).
  • Improved the behavior of the newsletter subscription widget by displaying all newsletter choices by default instead of asking the user to click a button to display the hidden choices.

  • Created a new tool that gives users the ability to generate a link to a filtered list page and share that link with their teams. The tool lets you generate links to download pages, for example, that are tagged with topic X and with topic Y. (You really have to try it to appreciate it.) We've added a link to the tool and some brief instructions to the Connect FAQ.
  • Added the ability for users who receive email notifications to click a link in their notification email and unsubscribe to future notifications that are related to the target thread.
  • Improved the language filter on blog listing pages so if the user changes the UI language, to Spanish for example, the list of blog posts will refresh to only show those posts in the Spanish language. Once the UI language is changed, if the user then wants to view the target blog's posts in another language, they can do so by using the blog...
