  • Added an "IT Trends" community to Connect. This new community gives users a simple, easy-to-navigate view of what other Symantec users are talking about.
  • Fixed an issue with partner badges being systematically added to the profiles of Symantec employees when they were added to the PartnerNet group.
  • Fixed an issue with blog posts changing breadcrumbs on submission.
  • Removed the duplicate navigation bar that authenticated users were seeing on their profile pages.
  • Modified the featured article carousel on community overview pages to allow modification by community managers and inclusion of special-use HTML.

We're excited to launch a new section on Connect called IT Trends. This section will make it easier for you to follow conversations about today's technologies across Connect. For the most part, conversations will still happen in their respective product communities. However, you can follow those conversations and have discussions on the general technology on their respective trends page. You can follow Cloud Computing content here and Enterprise Mobility content here.

How Trends Works:
Pieces of content still live in their respective product communities. However, the trends page allows users to "view" the topics in one centralized place. A New Beta Program Introduces Machine Translation of Connect Content

Accessing the great articles content on Symantec Connect in the language of your choice is now just a click away. As a beta program, we’ve introduced machine translation of article content that is available in five languages: French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.

With real-time translations of Connect articles content, you can now experience both user interface and content in your native language. An easy-to-maneuver toggle lets you flip between source English content and the machine-translated language content for easy comparison. And a feedback survey on every page lets you rate the translation quality and let us know how we’re doing!

SymAccount and the Connect servers will be undergoing some maintenance this weekend.

First Window

The first window will involve maintenance on SymAccount and not Connect so it will have a smallish impact on Connect users. If you are logged in before the SymAccount maintenance window, you will be able to continue working in Connect.

Start: Fri, Nov 16th, at 06:30pm PST
End: Sat, Nov 17th, at 08:30am PST

Second Window

During the second window, we'll be working on the Connect servers. Users will be able to read, browse, and search Connect content. Users will not be able to log in to contribute content, post comments, or vote on content.

  • Removed product descriptions from forum lists (mobile only) to de-clutter.

  • Added previous "<" and next ">" buttons to forum posts so users can easily browse from one post to the next without having to visit the forum list page.
  • Added a feature that displays the names of contributors that use the "collaborative editing" process to submit enhancements to Workflow Component Articles.
  • Fixed an issue with Group RSS feeds not working properly.
  • Fixed an issue that was allowing users to earn reward points by editing their posts.

User Facing: Mobile

  • Fixed an issue with the sorting of forum posts when the user clicks the "Show more" button.

Admin Facing

  • Restored the ability to view who has voted on a post or comment (to help curb cheating).

The Connect site has over 4,000 content items added each month – from forum posts and comments, to videos, articles, blog posts, downloads and ideas. With so much content available, it can be tough to find that one item that you’re looking for. Faceted search lets you quickly narrow down and refine your search results based on the criteria you set, by selecting and combining various attributes – or facets. By adding more facets to your search selection, you continue to refine your search based on your own criteria, to get to that one piece of information that you need.

To try out faceted search:

1. From any page on the site type your text search in the box. Notice that if you’re already in a community area, Search will automatically refine your search to that community section. You can also choose ‘Entire site’ if you want to broaden your search.

The Symantec Connect team has been working on a refresh of the Connect look and feel to align better with the new web site and to improve customer experience when crossing Symantec web properties. There are no functional or navigational changes to this refresh.

What’s New:

  • Colors of navigation bars and links
  • Colors of user badges
  • New banner on home page

User Facing: Desktop

  • Added search help page that explains the proper syntax for simple and complex search queries on Connect.
  • Added the ability to target a search on a specific support forum. The feature is context aware so if you're viewing a specific forum, your search will be focused on the posts made to that forum.
  • Added a block to each community overview page with information about who that community's Community Manager is and how to contact them.
  • Added brief product/program descriptions under each of the forum names to guide users with questions to the appropriate product/program forum.
  • Modified the automatic email that group managers receive when a user leaves their group to include the departing user's Connect username.
  • Fixed an issue with the partner badge not displaying for some partners.
  • Moved 2,600 Workflow Component articles into the Symantec Workflow group.
