Edited 11/4/2013: Edited to reflect that unauthenticated users cannot vote on content other than forums

Update: The change has been implemented today, October 30, 2013

Soon we will change the voting system on Connect. In the forums, we will change the current forum voting system to a system that allows both authenticated and nonauthenticated users to answer the question "Was this Helpful?" Voting in other areas of Connect (blog, articles, etc.) will stay the same and will be available only if you are logged in to Connect. Because of these changes, we will no longer award points for votes anywhere across the site. 

Contributions in some areas on Connect will now receive additional points to account for the loss of voting points. The new point values are listed below:

Updates deployed to the Connect production servers as a result of the code sprint that ended 15 October 2013.

User Facing: Desktop

  • Modified the email notification that goes out to subscribers when a forum is marked as solved to include the solution text in the notification email.
  • Fixed an issue of posts -- that have multiple votes -- showing 0 votes after cache rebuilds.
  • Added support for a new video framework that will allow interactive training videos to be hosted on Connect.
  • Fixed an issue with our authentication process that was causing a slight delay when users clicked on links (in email notifications) that took them to protected pages on Connect.
  • Deprecated the code that was built to distribute VIP tokens to developers. Developers can now get these tools by signing up at Symantec's Trialware site....

  • Fixed an issue with the "Mobile Site" link in the footer that was taking users to the home page of the mobile site instead of taking them to the mobile version of the page they were viewing when they clicked the link.

  • Configured Connect so Security Response bloggers could upload large infographics.

Updates deployed to the Connect production servers as a result of the code sprint that ended 17 September 2013.

User Facing: Desktop

  • Fixed an issue where the Search and the RSS Builder were returning a slightly different number of results from the same criteria.
  • Fixed an issue with blog posts that were hosting images with an ampersand (&) as part of the file name that was causing the image to not display in RSS feeds.

Admin Facing

  • Modified the system that imports user Certifications and Accreditations to allow for configurable email addresses. This gives us the ability to add or remove management who would like to be notified each time the import script completes.

There's nothing worse than having a forum query with little information provided. It means extra time taken to ask questions of the OP in order to crack open the required information in order to begin the troubleshooting process.

The easiest way around this is to tag the forum query correctly...and in doing so, you provide as much information as possible. This in itself is really easy to do, and taking the time when creating the query by providing the correct tags will save a lot of effort in trying to decipher the background information.

Information that should be selected must include:

1. Operating system on which product is running - self-explanatory!

2. Select one product (Required) - This is going to tell forumites what product you're using. But more importantly, selecting the version of the product, ie. Backup Exec 2012, is going to ensure that if you don't mention this bit of information in the initial...

User Facing: Desktop

  • Changed the Quick Search in the Help Center to look for titles that "contain" a search term instead of titles that "begin with" a search term. This enhancement should make the Quick Search more useful to users.
  • Fixed a label in the Subscriptions UI that was listing one of the subscription types as, "not available".
  • Fixed a transient problem in forum list pages where the "I need a solution" text was displaying inline with the forum teaser text.
  • Fixed the sort order of blog names on the RSS-Builder.

User Facing: Desktop

  • Enhanced the RSS Builder to give users the ability to specify a target blog, product, and/or language when building valid RSS URLs to pull content streams from Connect.
  • Fixed an issue with votes not displaying on content that had been voted on. Also added defensive code to keep this issue from reoccurring.
  • Modified the workflow system to give Security Response bloggers the ability to work on (edit, update, advance in the workflow) blog posts authored by other members of the Security Response team.

User Facing: Desktop

  • Added [brackets] around group names when they appear in the subject lines of email notifications. This enables users to organize their mailboxes with rules that detect group names enclosed in brackets.
  • Added the ability for users -- who've been granted the translator role -- to add translations of comments to Connect. Translators can already translate forum posts, now they can translate the replies to those posts.
  • Fixed a few IE8 and Firefox navigation issues with the new Help Center.
  • Fixed an issue with incorrect solved counts under the Trusted Advisors tab on the Community overview pages.

  • Updated the code that displays Twitter feeds on Connect to leverage the new Twitter v1.1 API. (Twitter feeds are now displaying properly on Connect.)
  • Modified links in translated versions of home page banner to respond correctly for users who are viewing the home page in languages other than English.
  • Added support for double byte file names (and file extensions) to support languages like Japanese and Chinese.
  • Added the ability for users to set a language preference in their user profile and establish a default UI language for their authenticated sessions.
  • Fixed an issue with the pop-up site announcement banner that continued to display even after users had dismissed it.
  • Added "please login or register" message to the "actions" menu on forum pages for users who are not authenticated. (The old behavior was a blank actions menu.)
