Only one day left of Symantec Vision 2010! Can you believe it? You've learned, you've laughed and you've partied. Keep the energy up just one more day, and we promise it will be worth it.

Keynote Update

For those who haven't yet tried the Vision self-paced labs, they are well worth a look!

I expected simple VMWare Player shortcuts on the desktop, so what I saw impressed the hell out of me. The desktop just has an IE shortcut where you register to use the VMs with a username and password. You can then select you lab and in the background on a server you own VMs are generated. The dual-screen setup also allows you to throw up the lab pdf on one screen, whilst you get to work on the other.

These VMs are accessed through the browser -nothing is local. This means you can do half-an-hour over lunch, logout and come back later to your VMs just as you left them.

This is a sterling service, and a very practical solution to providing Vision labs when large blocks of free time are hard to come by!

There are currently 5 labs on there, and more labs are added daily. This is the first of its kind at Vision, so try it out (and leave your email...

Are you ready? Symantec Vision 2010 is just starting, and we've got three full days of activities planned for you. To take advantage of them all, here's some helpful information.

Keynote Update

Take Control of Your Information Don't think of the typical keynote here. One of the big changes for Symantec Vision 2010 is a new keynote format. Long-winded executive speeches are forbidden, PowerPoint slides are banned, laughter is strongly encouraged and the information is all relevant and useful. Join Symantec Vice President of Product Marketing Steve Morton when he Takes Control of the Vision stage on Tuesday at 11:00 in the Auditorium, Ground Level, CCIB. Symantec President and CEO, Enrique Salem and Senior VP for EMEA, John Brigden are slated to join Steve to examine the critical shift from “infrastructure-centric” to “information-centric” computing and discuss the implications of that shift for your organization

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to ask survivalist Bear Grylls about his most amazing adventures, following his presentation on Thursday 7 October.  Immediately following his remarks on Thursday afternoon in the closing keynote, he will take questions from our Vision delegates-- so have yours ready!  Feel free to ask him about the worst thing he ever ate; what scares him; the strangest place he’s ever been, etc.  His answers may surprise you!

Recently I read a very interesting research document from Ovum ‘Telecoms in 2020 – Enterprise Services’. Ovum estimates that Global Telcos account for about 8% of Managed Enterprise Services in 2010, but their market share will grow to 14% in 2020. In order to achieve this growth, Ovum recommends that Telcos should maximize the potential of their networks and continue with their ICT and Cloud strategies. Telcos in 2020 will then own and manage greater IT Consulting and Service Delivery capabilities, supported by the development of global data center networks.

The Communications Service Providers market is a key market for Symantec globally and in EMEA. Our strategy and expanded solution sets for this industry exactly supports Telcos in their direction to become important players in Enterprise Services. For the EMEA Vision 2010 in Barcelona we have build four Telco / Service Providers-specific breakout sessions that discuss these topics.

At Vision 2010 in Barcelona we will show you a new member of the Control Compliance Suite family - Symantec Control Compliance Suite Vulnerability Manager (CCS VM). This new product will help you when you are challenged to answer questions like which databases, servers and network devices are vulnerable to hacker attacks, which Web applications are exposed to SQL injection, and cross-site scripting threats, which unmanaged devices pose a security risk to your critical systems, or which vulnerabilities should receive highest priority for remediation efforts.

How is this product working? Well, first of all, it scans host operating system, database and Web application (including AJAX and Web 2.0 applications) for vulnerabilities by using a unique vulnerability chaining mechanism to identify cumulative risks and attack vectors. As of today CCS VM provides scanning for more than 54,000 regularly updated vulnerability checks across 14,000+ vulnerabilities. It includes...
