This year's Vision content highlighted a fantastic number of new product announcements that demonstrate Symantec's commitment to deliver solutions for Cloud, Virtualization and Mobile.

This year’s content was delivered in three phases emphasizing Symantec’s vision as presented by Enrique Salem in the first day keynote, followed by the Portfolio Strategy update from Francis deSouza delivered as part of the Product Vision and Strategy Forum. During the four PVSF sessions customers and partners had an opportunity to see a drill down of Symantec’s core product strategies in Storage and Availability Management, Information Management, Security and Endpoint Management, and Mobile.

A number of great product highlights included the announcement of the SFHA 6.0 solutions launch, helping to clarify how you can ‘Get the Private Cloud you want from the Infrastructure you've got’, the O3 solution providing the first holistic security layer above the...

It's been such a great few days meeting with Symantec Connect community members and introducing others to the site that this is the first chance for me to share some of my personal conference highlights.

Another Vision event draws to a close and what a great few days it has been!

There have been many highs, few lows - and those have been self-inflicted - and lots to learn.  VCS 6.0 looks great - VOM and VBS really are going to make a huge difference to how we look after the service and not just the infrastructure.  This then exploded onto the iPad which showed how amazingly connected we all are all the time.  Want to see the state of your service?  Open your mobile device and see realtime data right there.

We've then been shown how you can join your personal mobile device and your personal data with that of the corporate world - safely, securely and not just for the company but you too.  This is really exciting and to me shows the year ahead will be packed full of great ideas and fun.

Why have I chosen 'putting the no in innovation' as the title.  Well, this Vision event has...

Podcast:
Enlightened Mobile Security
In my opinion it is very important to make the private/home users aware about security espacially with mobile devices. And if the private user understands the traps and problems, he will automatically bring this awareness to his workplace.

Insights into Data Ownership and Usage of unstructured Data was one of the presentations which had for me the most information where I want to look deeper in to. The presentation was enriched with a customer experience which was very...

Best practices companies should implement for mobile security on their mobile devices.

1. Choose Devices Carefully

Not all devices are created equally when it comes to security. For example, iPods are built for general consumers not as concerned by security and is therefore less inherently secure than a BlackBerry device designed for enterprise users.

“The degree to which IT managers can control security on mobile devices is highly dependent upon the vendor that they select,” DeBeasi says. “You should try to get mobile devices that have the best possible control and security on them and then use those mechanisms and it will go a long way to locking down those mobile devices.”

2. Turn On Encryption

Once you choose devices with stronger security controls, use those controls! DeBeasi says that many organizations do not enforce or even set policies mandating the use of device encryption on mobile devices....
