Last week I wrote about how we had recently hit the highwater mark of half a billion VeriSign seals displayed in a single day. One large source of that volume is VeriSign Seal-in-Search, which makes it possible for partners to display the VeriSign seal next to their own listings for sites (if those sites are secured by VeriSign, of course). You'll recall that in February we launched the standalone VeriSign Trust Seal, which is to say a version of the VeriSign seal that is available for purchase and use on a web site that does not use an SSL Certificate. We made a big announcement today. We've added significant functionality to VeriSign SSL Certificates. VeriSign SSL users will be able to take advantage of our web site malware scanning and Seal-in-Search capabilities, just as users of the standalone VeriSign Trust Seal can.

Since the recent announcement of Symantec's intention to acquire the VeriSign Authentication business, we've caught wind of some odd and unsubstantiated rumors. I'd like to take this occasion to clear up a few of the wilder ones.

Rumor: After the acquisition there will be no more VeriSign SSL Certificates issued.
Reply: Does anybody really believe that? Would Symantec pay $1.3 billion for a business in order to immediately and unceremoniously shut it down? Seems mighty unlikely to me. And yes, Symantec will have the right to continue doing business on legacy VeriSign products for some years so that we can achieve a smooth transition.
