I have noticed that the vast majority of computers have started failing both BIOS and hardware inventory tasks. This seems to have coincided with upgrading to 7.0.7270. The agent log of one of the failing machines looks like: <event date='Mar 15 13:30:13' severity='4' hostName='PC044' source='Client Task Agent' module='client task agent.dll' process='aexnsagent.exe' pid='812' thread='4552' tickCount='1212853796' > <![CDATA[Task: BIOS Inventory Task has started]]></event> <event date='Mar 15 13:30:13' severity='4' hostName='PC044' source='Client Task Agent' module='client task agent.dll' process='aexnsagent.exe' pid='812' thread='4552' tickCount='1212853796' > <![CDATA[Task: BIOS Inventory Task has finished]]></event> <event date='Mar 15 14:01:38' severity='4'...

We are about to deploy about 2000 laptops running Fedora 12. I would like to include the Management agent and the Symantec Endpoint Agent in the image itself. Is this possible without causing any conflicts? I have tried looking for these answers but haven't really gotten a clear response with details on how to do it if it can be done. Thanks, Kris Turner

If you're preparing to configure Intel vPro Technology, and are using the remote configuration process (i.e. certificate based provisioning) - the following information may of interest. First - keep in mind that remote configuration provides the crucial step of first authentication for a brand new system. Once Intel vPro Technology is configured - the remote configuration process for that client system is no longer needed unless the BIOS is fully reset or the system board is replaced. Within Intel vPro platforms there are a defined list of certificate hashes from VeriSign, GoDaddy, Comodo, and Starfield. For convenience - here is the original list of certificate hashes VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary CA – G1 -74 2c 31 92 e6 07 e4 24 eb 45 49 54 2b e1 bb c5 3e 61 74 e2 VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary CA – G3 - ‎13 2d 0d 45 53 4b 69 97 cd b2 d5 c3 39 e2 55 76 60 9b 5c c6 Go Daddy Class 2 CA - ‎27 96 ba e6 3f 18 01 e2 77 26 1b a0...

Hello After I follow the steps for restoring on other server (virtual machine): restore SEP Manager, restore the server certificate and restore client communications with a database backup, when I try to log on Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager I receive the message : "You cannot log on the console because the server is not synchronized with database. Upgrade the server, and the log on to the console". I tried to reconfigure server with Management Server Configuration Wizard, but i receive same error. Before to restore the database, i could to log on SEP Manager. Please help me with a advise. Thank you.

Deja Vu all over again... They finally got a DMC version out that was compatible with SP3, and now SP4 rolls out and voila, DMC is incompatible...again.

We have several tasks to update BIOS settings for various product ranges which use a shared schedule that I have created. Looking at the task results, it seems that only one of the tasks is being executed. Is it possible to run several BIOS settings tasks at the same time? Or do we need to create separate shared sechedules for this? The latter would seem to defeat the object of shared schedules!

Hi All I am receiving (what appears to be common) an error in Dell Client Manager, following a new installation where I receive Symantec Management Server Error An error has occurred that prevents the Symantec Management Console displaying correctly. If this page is shown in place of a page or web part in the Symantec Management Console, navigate back to the page using the menu or tree and continue working. If the problem persists, see your local network administrator. .... and more In the windows event log of the server I can see this is the cause. Hi Everybody, I have some restrictions in place with a client using DCM that prevent us from using the "Import catalog and inventory collector from: Dell site" option for downloading the catalogues. So I have gone to the default location, downloaded the catalogPC.cab file and copied it to a location I can get to on the DMC. However, when selecting the "Custom Location" option, the rest of the text mentions that you need to "specify the local path, UNC or URL where the catalogPC.cab and InvColPC_(version here).exe are located. I can find the location where I have placed the catalogPC.cab no problem, but have no idea where I can find the InvColPC_(version here).exe. The XML file contained in the .cab file makes reference to the InvColPC_1.1.0.53.exe (which is the specific version required for this .cab at a guess!) I have dug around on the Dell FTP site as well as run a search for *InvColPC* on my Altiris installation directory and...

I am trying to configure the OOB Site Service. I need to change the SQL server that the database is on. When I change the settings I need and hit save changes I get a Red X with only the error Failed to save configuration. What log file can I look at to view more details? This is NS7/Dell Management Console. Thanks, Kris

Is there a way to install the Linux NS Agent on an Image? I know if you install the Windows NS client you have to strip the GUID and some other steps. Anyone have a good install script for Fedora 12 to install either at the desktop or remotely? Thanks, Kris Turner

For some reason I cannot discover my network using IP ranges. I am trying to discover my network on a per DC basis. I have created import files (csv) using the format listed below. I can import the files fine into the Network Discovery Wizard and it shows the lists fine, but when I actually run the discovery, progress is very slow, and eventually it restarts, never completing. This happens repeatedly, and I never get a full discovery. Example: IpAddrRange,Include,192.168.21.0,192.168.21.255,255.255.255.0 Some of the ranges in my lists are rather large, some are not. I even tried importing single smaller range, like the one listed above (not the actual IPs), and I get the same result. My Connection profile is using HTTP, ICMP, SNMP and WMI. I have tried using only ICMP and SNMP, and I get the same results. I've tried using ARP, but it did work, I think because I have one community for my network devices and one for my hosts, and unfortunately DMC does not allow the use of...

This video demonstrates the potential of Intel vPro Technology using a distributable ISO file (Remote Drive Share is available at http://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-4785). The demonstration shows the ability to read\write\change the remote file system. The distributable ISO includes instructions on how to incorporate NTFS-3G or similar utilities for accessing NTFS partitions. If you have experienced situations such as the following with a remote client PC, this demonstration may be interest: Window boot process failing and need to access NTFS partition Before re-imaging a client, need to copy files off of the system Full virus scan of the partition outside of the host PC operating system Access and modify a Windows registry setting on the remote client PC The demonstration also shows an intriguing use of Serial-over-LAN. Notice in the demonstration that the user's screen provides only a prompt about the remote drive share, while...

How do I remotely troubleshoot an agent without logging into the machine? "Remote Altiris Agent Diagnostics" (RAAD) version 2 expands on the diagnostic checks and remediation actions performed by RAAD version 1 (KB 45023) to allow those checks and actions against a list of machines and not just the one machine. The Health Checks in RAAD version 2 are designed to take a look at the state of the Altiris solution plug-ins such as Patch, Task, SWD and Recovery to determine if they are working properly. Version 2 also allows the ability to run a Custom Inventory XML against the set of machines and return the results immediately so you can customize your own health check. You can examine more in-depth details of the Agents using the Diagnostics tab which is essentially RAAD version 1. The biggest advantage with version 2 is that you can run remediation actions such as Configuration Request and Start Patching Cycle against as many machines as you'd like and all at once. The process...

Fine, I get it...there are some upgrades that are important...stick it in my face all you want. But sometimes it takes time to test upgrades before they go into production, and God forbid if you need to add a new license file while you're testing, because SIM won't let you do it. When the upgrades go smoothly enough that we can dispense with testing, and not break other modules (think Platform Service Packs and Dell Managment Console), then maybe you can consider forcing upgrades, but the installs are nowhere near stable enough for this.

Take a look at http://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-4785 Great utility for booting a remote client, accessing NTFS files via network mapped drive, instructions to change ISO, etc. The use case reference design includes a small 7.2MB ISO for IDE boot redirection. Instructions to extend\change the ISO. Boot with SoL and IDER. The NTFS-3G component for R/W NTFS couldn’t be included, but there are instructions in PDF on how to put it in.

Hi Support, I am unable to run the Microsoft's ASP.NET registration command aspnet_regiis.exe after installing Endpoint Protection 11. I am able to run the command after uninstalling the endpoint protection. This is the case with most of the systems here. Are you testing Windows 7 in your environment with Intel vPro Technology systems, and wondering if there are special considerations? Technically - Intel vPro Technology is operating system agnostic. It will operate at the hardware layer to provide improve power control, boot redirection, and so forth. However, there are a few drivers\services which allow the local operating system to communicate with the management technology. If you're familiar with deploying or using Intel vPro technology, then HECI\MEI and LMS\SoL drivers and services should be familiar. If the technology is not enabled and these drivers are not installed - you may experience multiple prompts for a PCI Simple Communications interface driver from the windows device manager. Windows 7 is a new operating system, hence the device drivers should be updated. However, you may quickly find that not all vPro systems have Windows 7 drivers. ...

I have created a number of report based filters (as described in the Dell Client Manager 3.0 User's Guide) in order to run BIOS update tasks. When created, the filters return all computers of a specific line/model that have a specified BIOS version. The BIOS update task is executed on computers based on the filters. The problem is that the results of the filters are not upated, so the same set of results are returned. This means the task is executed on computers that don't need it and more importantly not executed on new computers. Any ideas short of recreating the filters every time new computers are added? Notification Server 7.0 Dell Client Manager 3.0 Thanks in advance!

Anyone have any idea when it will be compatible? Kind of a hassle when you cannot upgrade your SMP components because of the Dell Console being installed.

Hi Everyone, I am having a weird problem with a clean install of DCM Standard at a client's site. DCM appears to be runnign fine mostly. However, on the DCM home page, in the box titled: "Update compliance of client computers that are ready to receive updates" all I can see is the following error message: Begin error message ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Symantec Management Server Error An error has occurred that prevents the Symantec Management Console displaying correctly. If this page is shown in place of a page or web part in the Symantec Management Console, navigate back to the page using the menu or tree and continue working. If the problem persists, see your local network administrator. Authors Note: I apologize for all the abbreviations, I'm including the glossary at the front of the post for some extra clarity. Glossary DMC - Dell Management Console - A free product, offered by Dell that is primarily used to manage the server environment. It includes hardware patching, limited inventory, and some monitoring capabilities. SMP - Symantec Management Platform - The product formerly known as Altiris Notification Server. This is most often referred to as "Notification Server version 7". SIM - Symantec Installation Manager - The automated install and update platform for all SMP related products. Prior to version 7, a previous tool AIM (Altiris Installation Manager) was optional to perform the same activities. With the advent of version 7 and the Symantec Management Platform designation, this is no longer the case. All installs and upgrades must be performed with the SIM. SP - Service pack Introduction Quite recently, both the Dell Management Console (DMC) and Symantec...
