Hi,
I am using SEP 11.0.5. One of the Group of the SEPM which is on a WAN is not getting updated in the SEPM. My boys physically visited the branch, updated new version & copied the virus updates from an updated system into ("C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs" ) location, but the same is not updated in the SEPM console. none of the systems are shown there.
I am sure that there is no problem in the network since other application in the branch on WAN is functioning fine.

Hi,
I have used Symantec Security products for the passed few years. Symantec Client Security 2.x still run fine on my old Pentium 4 Desktop. It works well and doesn't really slow down my system on startup and overall performance. My computer PF Usage is about 200+MB and CPU Usage is less than 20% on startup. (Startup Scan Disabled)
But from Symantec Client Security 3.x to SEP 11.0.2, it really slows down my system on startup and overall performance. My computer PF Usage is about 300+MB and CPU Usage stays at 100% for about 30 seconds before it decrease. (Startup Scan Disabled)
SEP 11.0.3 - SEP 11.0.5 is slightly better, it slows down my system on startup and overall performance, but not as bad as SCS 3.x to SEP 11.0.2. My computer PF Usage is about 240+MB and CPU Usage stays at 100% for about 15 seconds before it decrease. (Startup Scan Disabled)
I would greatly appreciate if Symantec can make a security product that use less memory, cpu usage, lower performance impact and faster...

I am experiencing poor performance when backing up a new HP X1600 NAS server to a directly attached SAS Ultrium 1760 with Backupexec 12.5
All the latest firmware, patches etc have been installed but the backup job averages around 600MB/min.
On a drive partition that whole a small number of very large files (1GB) the performance increases up to 1925MB/min.
Restores also perform OK at around 1800MB/min.
Are there any recommended settings for the buffers, block size, etc on the Ultrium 1760?
Currently it is set to the default of 64K block and 64k buffers with count of 10.
We have many HP proliant servers running ultrium 1,2 and 3 which perform much better on older disk subsystems, so this does seem particularly slow.
Any advice much appreciated.

Hello there!
After upgraded VBR server to 6.6.2, some features on the web console under Reports\Backups\ don't work but they worked before the upgrade in the old version 6.5.1
For example when click on Reports/Backup/Status/Consecutive Failure, I get an error " Failed to Initialize ResultSetIterator ".
Does anyone know what causes the problem and how to resolve the problem?.
Help is much apprecated.
Thanks.

Has anyone gone through the process of moving their MBE or SPA to a new physical (or virtual) server?
I originally built an All-in-One PD Server, with 1 TB of internal storage. My environment has grown past the intial server, and I now want to move the SPA and MBE to different p or v machines. The long term goal is to re-purpose the original PD server.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hello,
since the 21st January, we have a few issues with our Backup and i would appreciate some advice on how to narrow down the problem or the change which was made back then.
We have a raid-storage connected with fibre channels to a Windows 2003 SP2 Server ed. which manages the folder sharing and the backup with Backup Exec 12.5 SP3 on a IBM TS 3200 tape library.
It worked really well, with ca. 3.2 - 3.4 GB/min. and about 600GB were done in 4h.
Now it reaches a maximum speed of 1.2 GB/min. takes more than 10 h,
and doesn´t react to export nor formatting tasks.
Since the device provides important data for the whole company, i can´t restart it anytime but in the middle of the night or on weekend.
I would really appreciate any advice how i can find out whether the problems are hardware or software based.
I tried the symantec as well as the ibm drivers which made no difference.
I restarted all the hardware.
I defined new tasks.
I optimized the block size ect.
There is...

Hi guys built a new netbackup environment 6.5
relocated netbackup\db to D:\NBU_DB\db
steps ran through
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\veritas\netbackup\currentversionPaths valuename DATABASE_PATH changed Value as above ie D:\\NBU_DB\\db
ran through the rational database admin gui changed path for all data, index, transaction logs, D:\netbackupDB_DB\data
have some concerns regarding the catalog backup.
How does the catalog backup know how to backup the new D:\NBU_DB\db folder from the D:\ rather than C:\ how can I confirm this. Is this from the registory.
How do I change the staging location from C:\ to D:\

Hi all,
Can someone advise where I can download some recent metrics/statistics on the Backup Exec 11 for Windows software? I want to find out the standard time it takes to backup a certain amount of data, both full and incremental. That way, I can see how our numbers are matching up against the benchmark. If someone knows where I can download this informaiton, please advise.

--== Warning: Wall of text incoming ==--
I have a NetBackup environment consisting of:
-= Local Site =-
1 Red Hat Linux AS 4 Master running NBU 6.0 MP7
2 Red Hat Linux AS 4 Media Servers running NBU 6.0 MP7
3 Tru64 V5.1B (Rev. 2650) SAN Media running NBU 6.0 MP7 (Mix between O/S patch kit 6 and 7)
1 Spectra Logic T380 with 12 IBM LTO4 drives running latest BlueScale patches and drive firmware.
1 NetApp 1400 VTL running latest firmware.
-= DR Site =-
1 Red Hat Linux AS 4 Master running NBU 6.0 MP7
1 Tru64 V5.1B (Rev. 2650) SAN Media running NBU 6.0 MP7
1 Spectra Logic T200 with 12 IBM LTO4 drives running latest BlueScale patches and drive firmware.
Last July we replaced our ADIC i2000 library (LTO2 drives) with a Spectra Logic T380. Once we got the library deployed we noticed that our Linux systems are able to write to the library at LTO4 speeds, and the regular network clients
even get decent throughput over a 1gb ethernet network. But the 3 Tru64 SAN media servers absolutely crawl....

Hello all. Kinda new to SAV 11, been an Officescan guy most of my career, so please bear with me...
New deploy of Endpoint Protection 11. Users in a remote office office started screaming about their Lotus Notes performance. I had deployed the SAV client with the Notes protection enabled. To troubleshoot the performance issues, I went to the central management console and disabled the Notes email protection. Now all the clients have the red circle, indicate "problems", and indicate that the AV and AS protection is turned off because the Notes Auto-Protect is disabled.
The end goal is to have the Notes auto-protect disabled and happy "green circle" clients. Where did I screw this up and why should my clients have an "opinion" about a change that was made on the central management console?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using Symantec antivirus(SAV) corporate version 10.0.2.2011 on windows XP pro. SAV is consistently using between 120 and 140 megs of memory. It's causing me a significant amount of sluggishness to my computer. Why? Why symantec, why? If I disable the auto scan, still 140 megs. When it appears to not be scanning anything at all? 140 megs. I searched the internet and most people have SAV using about 70-80 megs, and they're pissed off about that. Me, 140. not 80, not an acceptable 40 or 20. no, 140. It's using more memory than anything else on my computer, or everything else sometimes. I need my computer to actually do computations, so that 140 megs is important to me. I wont even get into the processing. Please tell me how to fix this! You owe this to me after all the time I spent trying to find a solution on the internet and on your glitchy website (That's right, your website is glitchy. Fix it). SAV is...

Have some issues recently with our Commvault 7 backup server and SEP11. The scans never seem to complete. It looks as if SEP is trying to scan every known drive attached to this server.
However, within the settings I can't find a way to pick which drives. It is is all or just C:

One: Provide a command line menu that can be initiated that will produce a menu to mange the two daemons. More importantly a command that will produce an error report that will offer remedy/reason and status as well as package up the report for Symantec.
Two: Enable auto self reporting. If the product fails, the system will create a trigger file that can be picked up by a program such as Netvigil that can then page the proper personnel that the program isnt working as designed.
Fix: If the system becomes "unstable" or hung up the software will uninstall and report. Right now the software seems to be hanging up my system.

Hello all,
I have BE 12.5 with all the latest updates, and for some reason a backup of 291GB takes me a rough 13 and a half hours !!!
I have read on the forum that it's recomended to perform 2 sets of backup - one for the Exchange and another one for the rest - but i have no clue on how to perform 2 backups and have them written on the same cassete.
Further more - my AOFO is probably installed badly - i have tryed to enter the wizard and it said that it's not installed correctly...
the Server is Win 2003 with all the updates, 3XSCSI disks, and the tape on another SCSI.
Please HELP !!!

March 6, 2010. What a mess! I installed SEP Small Business v12 on a new Dell Latitude E5500 with Windows 7 Professional. SEP updated and then the computer rebooted. BSODs and endless reboots with teefer2.sys problems. Couldn't uninstall Network Adapters with "teefer2" in Device Manager; disabling all Symantec services and programs in MSCONFIG didn't help. Can't uninstall SEP in Safe Mode.
I finally got the computer running again by renaming \windows\system32\drivers\teefer2.sys to ...teefer2_sys, disabling all Symantec services and programs with MSCONFIG and rebooting in non-Safe Mode. Then unstall would remove SEP. I am afraid to reinstall SEP and may just give this employee - and future computers with Windows 7 - McAfee Enterprise 8.7i which seems to work just as well based on a recent minor virus (from Facebook) outbreak.
If someone has a way to SAFELY and RELIABLY install SEP v12 with Windows 7 Pro, please let ...

Regarding the Altiris/Symantec BESR 2010 Management Solution -
I am doing some testing with this product before rolling it out across our network. In so doing a few questions have arisen;
1.) Once a backup policy has been created it must be applied. I had expected to be able to apply a backup policy to systems that I explicitly choose - or at least apply it to a subset of computers that I have grouped in some meaningful way. Instead, when I click Apply I am presented with a screen that presents me with six options, among these;
"Computers with Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Installed",
"Windows Computers With Backup Exec System Recovery Installed", and
"Windows Computers With Backup Exec System Recovery Plug-In Installed",
and a few others.
All of my clients will have the BESR 2010 client installed - both my workstations and my servers. So suppose I want to apply a different policy to my servers...

Hi All,
We are in the midst of upgrading to Client Management Suite 7 from version 6. Our server support team also wants to upgrade Symantec AntiVirus 10 (which is on a separate server) to Endpoint Protection 11. However, the team wants SEP 11 to now share servers with CMS.
I suggested this might be not be the best idea because it would add complexity to troubleshooting the CMS environment, as well as somewhat unknown (at this time) impact on performance.
Can I get feedback from some of you folks? I'd greatly appreciate your input.

hi,
We currently have a situation where Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 RU 5 seems to be making our client computers unusable.
Unfortunately, our SEP licences are brought though our Local Education Authority (we are a school) so we can’t talk to Symantec directly and the people that deal with SEP problems at the LEA have been off ill for a week, so I was wondering if anyone has come across anything like the symptoms we are experiencing.
I've spent several hours looking though the forums to see if there is anything related, but I’ve not found anything that looks like its directly related to our symptoms - however if I have missed it I'm sorry.
We are experiencing the following problems
Things started going wrong shortly after Christmas when our most important server started hanging (mouse would move but no keyboard shortcuts or clicks would do anything) exactly half a hour after an entry in the Event Log to say that LiveUpdate had finished running. The server was running...

Hi,
I'm currently setting up a test enviroment to check out Netbackup 6.5 on a Widnows 2003 platform. I need to check out of of the new vault management features but I do not have a library attached to make test workstation. Is there any type of Robotic Library emulation software out there I could use?
