Im struggling with the default profile issue. Im at a university, managing the computer labs.  I dont use syspep, I do all my imaging with Altiris, and let it use it's internal sidgen utils. I can image fine this way. However, I frequently have to go in and make changes, and have to change the default profile on the fly, in the classroom, in situations where Im not doing any imaging..and Win 7 doesnt seem to allow that, or am I missing something?  Thanks for any input.

I have noticed that The norton definition updates files ( for manual updates ) has just continually increased in sieze each day and that just tells me that the guys who brag and say that NORTON TAKES LARGE SPACE ON COMPUTERS AND THUS MAKES COMPUTER SLOW after installation compared to other antivirus products could be true. this needs to be checked......I observed the increasing from 47.8MB and today it is already bigger than 60MB. probably in a few months it would measure 120MB and that may just be the beginning. I dun know but this needs to be attended to. Computers running NORTON are becoming way slower than others and my experience shows that even with the latest NORTON antivirus softwares installed and regularly updated, Computers running Norton can fail and be barterd by viruses

Hi, I'm having a great deal of trouble restoring windows 2008 R2 using Backup exec 12.5 service pack 3. This is a domain controller and I am restoring C drive and system state and service state as per my usual restore routines. The server starts to boot but then fails and just keeps restarting, trying to repair the installation fails. Appears to try and boot so doesn't look like a boot. device problem. I have restored many, many windows 2000 and 2003 boxes but the restore procedure does not appear to work for windows 2008 R2. I am not restoring the utility partition so that may be were I'm going wrong.  Has anybody restored windows 2008 R2 and can give me some pointers. Thanks Mark

This is another issue not covered well in the documentation and in spite of all my efforts it did not work. I need to execute a file, "name_xxx.exe" in the command window. In Execute command, I set the EXE Path: C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe The executable parameters: /S /K "C:\eMPartDb\name_xxx.exe" /S = string command /K = keep the window open after execution The command window opens but the file name_xxx.exe is not executed. I tried different syntax, nothing worked. I would appreciate any suggestions, thank you.

Is there a way to change how retrieved queue incident works?  Basically I want to change it so that P4 and work orders are treated the save when it comes to priority.  Since there is always a P4 ticket in the queue work orders (aka P5) never get pulled.

NetBackup can generate an FTP file for an Off-site vault vendor (Iron Mountain). There are 3 sections to the file. The media that is going to Iron Muntain for Off-site vaulting is the first section. The media only shows the date the data expires and NOT THE TIME. Iron Mountain then sends the media back to the customer on date of expiration. They are not supposed to be sending the media back for the day of delivery unless the media data has expired. Media is then scratch. If Iron Mountain does not know what time the media expires on the delivery day then they send back media that is not expired. This media should still be at Iron Mountain. If the TIME is added to the FTP file (in all of the sections) then they will know not to send media that has not expired after the driver has left the Iron Mountain facility. Attached is an example of the FTP file.

We are in the planning stages of merging our AD and our parent companies AD into one entirely new domain. Both current domains have their own Altiris environments. Is there any kind of documentation that deals with something like this? Is it best just to start over and build a new NS in the new domain and install all needed solutions? Or is there some kind of migration tool that would move one Altiris environment into the other? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 servers rebooting during Backup jobs, and getting the E0008821 error. We get no real information from dump logs or event logs, and we have had support involved and still nothing. Here is what we have. These are both singal purpose servers because of these problems. I also have 2 other servers working just fine one is a dl380 and the other is an old Proliant. 2 HP Servers DL 380 and DL 320 380: Windows 2003 Server SP2, BE 12.5 SP3, Rev 2213 320: Windows 2003 Server SP3, BE12 SP 3, Rev 1364 Did the DCOM changes and still nothing. Have had mother board swapped on the 380, SCSI controller swap as well. This is causing major issues in our backups and I have been looking through stuff and found nothing that seems to help. Just looking for and other help or ideas.

Hi All, I am wondering if there is a way for a BESR job to be started via comand line on a server? I notice that here is a pqj file at the following location, C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Schedule, for windows 2008 servers. This seems to be the job definition. Is there anyway that a command can be used to start this job? FYI, I have BESR clients on 6.x, 7.x and 8.x in my environment Please advise.

I've been noticing that a number of clients are receiving updates but are rolling back to the previous definitions. The logs indicate they are receiving the signatures from the parent server but the clients are loading the previous definitions.  Any ideas how i can resolve this issue? Note: Parent server and clients are running 10.1.8.8000.

SystemWorks keep deleting my Login Cookies! I want it to stop deleting my cookies! I have already set everything I know of to stop it form doing this it seems to delete my cookies every week, or two weeks, or so. I mean when I go to any websites that I need to lg on, it no longer has my log in info and I have to manually put my use r name and password in, and that lasts until the next time it is deleted off my computer. This has been going on for a few years, but I had totally had enough! I have been using Symantec/Norton products for many, many years. Please, that has got to be a way to make this stop.. I am ther only one that uses this computer, and this security insanity goes to far! It is insane and this paranoid programming needs ot let us samne people have normal settings. Thanx.. please, what setting can I set to stop these programs from running amuck deleting my info?

Running 10.1.8.8000 on two parent servers. When unchecking the "Do not allow client to manually launch liveupdate" from the SSC console and perform a reset all on the client options.  In 10 minutes, the "do not allow client..." is checked again. Any suggestions on how to enable the liveupdate button?

I've configured Endpoint Protection Manager for external logging.  I'm sending logs to a syslog server and from there our enterprise monitoring server is monitoring for specific events.  I've been able to monitor for things like scan started / scan stopped / virus defintions updates / threat detected, but the one thing I have not been able to find is when Endpoint Protection Manager identifies a machine with out-of-date defintions.  Is the out-of-date definitons logged to any specific log that can be configured for the external logging portion of Endpoint Protection?

Hi; I know this isn't best practice, but is there a way to get Altiris Deployment solution to work on a 2008 Domain Controller? I could do it with a couple registry hacks on a 2003 DC, but seems to be missing something with this. Some of clients we work with have only one server. I've generally used Hyper-V and put in a second imaging server, but wondered if it could be done on a 2008 DC. It hangs up on the imaging process so figure it's something with the security at that level. Thank you

hi! how do i clear the Blocked viruses status in "Action Summary By Detection Count" in the console main page? In addition to that, i also noticed that when i go into the Blocked viruses page (Action Summary - Blocked Virures Page" from the main page), the status Last Updated for the client is wrong. It showed 2011 instead of 2010. The date is ok for the rest of the system eg. def date or other report from the main screen. any idea how to troubleshooting this any how to clear the blocked status? thx

Hi, I'm having an issue with backing up a MS Exchange 2003 Cluster (2 nodes) on Windows 2003 server R2. I have the backup agent for Symantec Backup 12.5 installed (Release 2213). IN The Symantec backup manager I see the cluster machine but it shows no resources to back.  Anyone experienced this? Thanks,

I am trying to image a thinkpad R61 laptop with windows 7 enterprise os. I have set the bios for the nic to boot first and the job in the DS console using sysprep. When the laptop first boots up it loads the dagent and the agent shows the record updated, it only shows connection closed session terminated when the job is dragged to it. The DS version we have is 6.0 build (430) SP3. Thanks

I had forgotten then username and password for our Symantec Enpoint Protection Manager.  I have followed the steps and ran the resetpass.bat that is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools.  It appeared that the bat file was running and I was able to see the word "English" appear, but when I went to sign in using the username: admin password:admin, I still received the same error.  After trying this many many times,  I ended up restaring the Symantec Endpoint Services and subsequently running the resetpass.bat again.  I waited several minutes and it finally worked. I only post this because if someone else would have posted this, it would have saved me several hours.
