My first impression is that I can't do a backup of a machine running the BE 12.5 agent from BE 2010, and I can't do a push install over the older agent. Not cool. I expect that I should be able to push a newer agent over the older one.

Hi,
We are considering Backup exec, we are currently running Redhat 3, 4 and 5. How stable has this been??
Is major issues with performance, reliability or any other quirkyness???
Thanks

Does anyone know if it is possible to generate this page as a report and if so how?
The page I am referring to is this:
settings > global settings > agent configuration > show all agent status > click on the particular agent > then click on "show agent summary"

After using this for a few months now, I would like to see a button on the agent status page to re-poll all the data collectors at one time. This would make it really easy to poll all the data collectors at one time (after fixing problems or what ever reason you need) than going through each data collector and clicking the poll button.
Thanks

We are testing CMS7 in our lab environment and have encountered problems with WOL.
We are able to reboot and shut the pc down however we cannot "wake" it up.
The settings in the BIOS are correct and we can wake it up from the DS but not from the NS.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
Iam testing the Desaster Recovery for an Windows Exchange 2007 Server running on a 64bit Windows2003 Machine.
Iam using BE 12.5.
I set up a testing Enviroment, with our Active Directory.
Then I set up a BE 12.5 (testing version) in this enviroment too.
Then I set up a Wind2003 64bit on a new machine for the recovery test.
I copied the IMG and B2D files containing the Image and SystemStae of our live Server to the Server in the testing enviroment.
Servername: srv-mail-01
Domain: whatever.mydom
-- examples of course :-)
I followed the steps unt No. 10 in this document for recovering the system State and so on...
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/236286.htm
Here is the problem now:
When I try to recover the server BE does not find it.
I guess because BE is looking for srv-mail-0.whatever.mydom and the "new" server wich si still in the workgroup has the name srv-mail-01 WITHOUT the domain?
File redirection seems not to work, its just coping the files to the server...

Hello,
last Week my Problem started, if i want to make a Backup of the single Mailboxes of the Exchange2003 Users the Backup Job hangs at the last entry of my Backup Job.
The Jobs seems to run but it hangs it is not possible to chance it or something, i have to stop all Services and restart them.
I know its not important to save the single Mailboxes if i got a Backup from the InformationStore. But i want to get fast back to single Elements if something happens.
My System Windows 2003 Server, Backup Exec 10d+Exchange Option+OpenFiles, Exchange 2003. Every Software is Patched already and there are no more Paches available.
One thing i changed is the Backup Driver. First i got a LTO1 and now a LTO3.
Hope someone can Help.
Thank You
Best Regards

Hi All,
I'd like to know if this is possible to do or not ?
I've got several partitions, namely OS 50 GB, Database 500 GB and Log 150 GB
not all of them is full, the total data usage is around 95 GB and I'd like to restore it into single partitions of 350 GB new RAID-1 LUN, How can i do this ?
since each partitions is saved into each own file and one file can only have one single destination ?
Thanks.

What is previously called Software Virtualization Solution is now called Symantec Workspace Virtualization. So I guess the agent that was the SVS Agent is now SWV agent.
Maybe if you went to Manage Fusion or Vision you know this, but some of us didn't, so a memo would be nice. The tricky thing is that SVS 2.1 is still shipped with CMS 7. Trickier even still is SVS 2.1 is magically replace by SWV 6.1. I don't know all the details, but I know you can download it from the trialware site under Endpoint Virtualization Suite:
http://www.symantec.com/business/products/downloads/index.jsp
There is a download there specifically for an integrated installation that should integrate with your CMS server.

We 3 Hyper-V hosts on Windows Datacenter 2008, 2 of which backup fine. The 3rd fails, throwing a VSS error for every virtual guest. The ~20 guests themselves do not show VSS errors or anything else of note in the event viewer.
The failing host shows constant VSS warnings in the event viewer:
Volume Shadow Copy Warning: The provider has reported a storage identifier that is not supported by VSS. Codeset: 1 Type: 5 Size: 4 NextOffset:...

Hello I have Windows 2003 Standard Edition with VERITAS Backup Exec 12.5.
I have a server BKP Exec, where I have armed job well.
A few days, I included in the Job a shared folder on desktop PC and from that change ends with exemptions and does not perform the BKP in the desktop PC. The error is:
Backup-bue012227cV-79-57344-3844 - The media server was unable to connect to the remote agent machine bue012227c.
The media server using the local agent to try to complete the operation.
Unable to initialize Remote Agent
The error is that it must be installed on the agent desktop and BKP I understand that there is a way of making a backup without having to install an agent on the desktop.
I can help with this problem?

I am running the BackupExec 11D, 7170.
I had the Patch 3 with some hotfixes loaded on it. When I ran the Remote agent install from the media server, (default options were set to install the Remote server, Open files by default) and once the setup was complete it would prompt me in the install proceedure to either reboot now or wait.
Since then I have updated to Patch 4 and hotfix 69.
I have installed/updated some of the clients, but when I go though the Remote agent install. I have to select what options I want to install (notning is selected by default). Also when the system finishs the install, it automatically sends the Reboot command to the server. I have been lucky enought that I had only pushed this update to systems that were non-critical, as that would have been nasty.
So is there some options that I have missed configuring when setting up the remote agent installs?
Is there much difference for the agents between the patch 3 and patch 4 that would...

Many users of Backup Exec are annoyed by the recommendation to apply all hotfixes made to the server also to the remote agent. I think this is quite understandable, because in daily business it is in most cases simply not easy to do it because of other, higher priority topics.
With this short piece of text I would like to change your point of view.
Please consider the following facts:
1. Many problems of backups with BE result out of a mismatch of server and RAWS.
2. Hotfixes are hotfixes, because they fix important issues.
3. If you have to call tech support, they will definitely check the version of server and RAWS and in case they do not match advise you to update.
4. This is really important: If you are waiting too long, the number of updates that have to be applied increase that much that a push update will no longer be possible.
The last point is really important. My investigations showed that somewhere between 8 (result of tech support) and 10 (my result) updates...

This idea is to prevent a NetBackup Master server upgrade from being a requirement in order to support a new client type. For example, it is very painful to have to upgrade all NetBackup masters to a new code revision (testing, Q/A, change procedures, outages, etc.) to support a new client type like Windows Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2008. If the NetBackup code was possibly more modular, a new client could possibly be created that would still function without a NetBackup master upgrade. This is not an apples to apples comparison obviously, but the idea is similar to how one can run Outlook 2007 with an Exchange 2000 server and have almost all functionality still of the Outlook 2007 client, but without some of the advantages of Exchange 2003/2007/2010 on the back end.

Hi, Why would some of my Win 2008 Servers be backing up partly with Snapshots? e.g. The full system is selected for backup which includes C drive D drive Shadow Copy Components and System State. For some reason, C drive back ups (Fulls and Diffs) are all run as folder? backups but D drive, Shadow Copy Components and System State (Fulls and Diffs) are all snapshot backups? I can't see an option to see this either way, it seems to have decided to do it on it's own but why would C drive not also be snapshot backups?
Cheers,
Aaron

I have BE 9.1 and am using a Buffalo linkstation as a storage device on the network. The goal is to backup that data and store the backup on another Linkstation. I have been all over the forums, tried many recommended scenarios with the same results.
Final error: 0xa000fe29 Authentication failed on connection to the server
Final error category: Security errors
Access is denied to the remote agent. Check the logon account for the specificate device
I have created a user on the NAS to match the BE user without any luck.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
