Greetings, I am brand new to DS 6.9 and am preparing to install.  We currently have 5 servers (Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise SP2) serving various purposes and 2 SANs.  Each server has approx 70GB hardrives (12GB and C: and 58GB on D:)   I have created 5 seperate 100GB volumes on our SANs.  Our HD's came out of the factory partitioned 12:58 and needless to say our C: drives are running out of room.  I have an application that can (in theory) resize our partitions without destroying the data or config but I obviously want to make complete backups before I try using it.  A couple of questions: 1.  Is DS 6.9 the appropriate tool for creating complete, recoverable backups that I can put on to my SANs while I try this resizing app? 2. Do I use DS as a manager (similar to SEPM) with which to implement jobs on my other servers? Thanks in advance and...

I am currently running SAV Corporate Edition and 10.1.8.8000 Symantec System Center. When I select Tools/ClientRemote Install and drill down until I get to my domain name under Select Computer, I am not seeing all of the prospective clients that I should be able to see in my Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. If I can't see them, I can't push SAV to them. I've looked at my DNS and the machines that I want to push to are correctly listed in DNS. Any suggestions at this point would be welcomed.

CMDB and Asset Management Solution 6.5 When a custom class is created, the attributes within that class cannot be edited. The data type cannot be changed. An attribue cannot be deleted either.. The only way to make a change is to delete the whole dataclass and recreate with the new / changed desired attributes. This is very annoying and time consuming. It will be much nicer if the custom data classes could be edited.

I'm tyring to add items to a wise combobox with vbscript.  Is there some way to refer to the wise combobox in vbscript that is similar to setting a property? This gets a Wise property in vbscript: session.property("WISE_SQL_CONN_STR") Is there a way I can refer to a dropdown list control and add items like this: [WiseCombobox].items.add "Item A" [WiseCombobox].items.add "Item B" [WiseCombobox].items.add "Item C" I'm using InstallStudio 7 Thanks

I have sdlt2 tapes and some of them are not that old.  I have checked other posting regarding the status 84.  SCSI is working. Tape drive works with other tapes.  I have cleaned the tape heads but I have several tapes that can not be used.  How would I check the tapes before I commit them to the circular file?  I have seen one article to update net backup to 6.5.4.  I am running nbu 6.5.

Hi all.  Is there any reference material for Workflow error messages?  I'm building some simple workflow routines which send emails and some are working, some aren't.  I can't make head or tail of this error message: Exception Type : System.Exception Message: (Dialog Workflow DialogWorkflowComponent) - Execution Engine Exception Stack Trace (inner exception) Execution Engine Exception at LogicBase.Core.ExecutionEngine.AbstractExecutionEngine.RunEngine() at LogicBase.Core.ExecutionEngine.AbstractExecutionEngine.ExecuteComponent(IData data, IOrchestrationComponent comp) at LogicBase.Core.Models.EmbeddedDecisionModel.EmbeddedDecisionModelExecutionEngine.Run(IData data) at LogicBase.Core.Models.EmbeddedDecisionModel.EmbeddedDecisionModelDataType.Run(IData data) at LogicBase.Core.AbstractEnsembleWorkflowComponent.Start(String taskID, String workflowID, IData data) at LogicBase.Core.Models.Workflow.WorkflowDelegate.Execute(IData data, IOrchestrationComponent comp, String...

Hi, So, we have our LU policy, specifiying multple GUP's (by name), this policy is linked to the generic desktop group - cxlients are currently on 3 different sites. We have another test office - I have added the nominated GUP to the list of servernames on Rule 1. I then rolled out the SEP client. Since doing so, none of the clients have updated their defs (been a week now) - my guess is its trying to get from GUP and can't, as when  we roll clients out to sites with no GUPs (for testing) they get their update from SEPM fairly quickly and stay up to date. What should I check?  Any ideas?  Read it may work better putting an IP address isntead of name, but any tools I can use? Thanks

Hi All, I'd like to know if this is possible to do or not ? I've got several partitions, namely OS 50 GB, Database 500 GB and Log 150 GB not all of them is full, the total data usage is around 95 GB and I'd like to restore it into single partitions of 350 GB new RAID-1 LUN, How can i do this ? since each partitions is saved into each own file and one file can only have one single destination ? Thanks.

I have 14 DSSU and only 6 tape drives. It would be nice to be able to run 3 DSSU simultaneously to a single tape drive. This issue is that I can not stream enough data from a single DSSU fast enough to maximize the capasity throughput of a single LTO3 tape drive.

(Pre-question: is there a better search than the single box labeled "Search forums"?  I'd love to search just this forum but searching all forums rarely gets answers relevant here.) I ship a product as a 64-bit merge module (also as 32-bit MSM but that's not at issue here.) Recently a customer is asking if they can use my 64-bit MSM in a dual-mode MSI, that is in a 32-bit MSI which includes 64-bit components. Is this likely to be possible?  I'd always thought a 64-bit install required a 64-bit MSI, but the customer insists I'm wrong. The customer says they can create a 32-bit MSI which includes 64-bit components.  (The customer is also using WIS 7.)  When they add my 64-bit MSM into their MSI, my files are installed to Program Files (x86) instead of to Program Files, so my custom actions don't find files where they expect. I can add code to check for WoW etc but don't want the hassle if this is an illegal way of doing things. Thanks

Good morning, I recently installed DS 6.9 and I cannot for the life of me access the webconsole.  When i go to http://myserver/DSweb/default.aspx i'm prompted to sign in. I try adminstrator account / local administrator account and the altiris service account I setup.  I've tried my name in the form domain\username as well as just username with no luck.  WHat must I do in order to sign in to the web console?!  I can access it from the regular console just fine... I would like the other technicians to access the console without logging into the server though! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have created a MST install file for an MS access installer, the installer is working with the transfor file command but I want to have this in a package file. The purpose is to download the package.exe from a web link or ftp server and run the file. This would extract the package and run the setup command with the mst file. My stroggle is now how to combine the MS access (or office)install  files, msi ... into one package exe that will extract and run the setup? Can this be done by wise package suite or do I need to use an other tool (the tools in WPS look more to create a complete new package) TX

I unregistered the vbscript .dll and attempted to run an install I'm working on and it immediately hit a fatal error.  The reason was to test if vbscript needs to be installed.  Does Wise require that vbscript be installed in order to run an installation?  The installation being tested does run a vbscript from a custom action, but not until later in the install.  This error was instant. A related question:  I need to run a vbscript that uses ADO.  How can I make the install add ADO as a prerequisite? Thanks,

Hi commununity, sorry about my poor English ;-) here is one more discussion about compression and Backup Exec: symptom: tape hardware compression is disabled during start of Backup Exec services proof: - stopping all services of Backup Exec - start LTT and generate a support ticket, shows hardware compression disabled! - using LTT configuration utility setting compression to enable - verify setting by using the support ticket function again - compression is enabled - verify setting by using LTT test utility compression test, reporting 2.16 to 2.31 :-) - starting Backup Exec services and after that immediately stopping them - verify setting by using the support ticket function of LTT again - compression is DISABLED! -> this proves that no job configuration causes this issue - whats going on here? what we did: - changed tape drive - HP did! - downgrading firmware in tape WP8A to WP86 - using new media - verifying drivers, service packs, etc. configuration: -...

Dear reader, I have backup exec 12.5 and the jobs I am working with are sceduled to rund outside office hours (after 17:00 until 6:59 the next day) but some of the jobs seem to be run more than once during the night. I have read somewhere that I need to clear or clean the job queue but I have not seen any info on how to do this. I have also had some instances of jobs being marked as recovered. The nights the recovered jobs appeared the backup server engine crashed. So if anybody knows how to clear the job queue or has any other ideas about thow to go about this please let me know. Best regards, Agust.

Symantec must develop virus signatures that recovers the original registry stored in PC. Almost all of threats changed registry which is very tedious to IT personnel to restore the original registry setup.

All,  I am very new to WISE, so forgive me in advance if I sound like a ID10T.   I am at a new job and my new boss wants me to put the PN Agent for Citirx Pub apps onto every desktop and laptop. I have the PN Agent in .exe version but when I did convert it to .msi and pushed through GPO to my test computer, I realized I needed an answer file to along with the .exe to limit EU involment.. We also use Desktop Authority, which I have never used, and saw there was a place for MSI package.  maybe I could go that route? HELP / PLEASE / Thank you
