I'm looking for feedback from anyone who may have a project plan to share for a CMS 7 install.  I've got a rough version, but looking for feedback from others.  We currently only use Helpdesk 6 and DS 6.8 SP1.  After every task is done, Software and Inventory solution are installed.  We've got the servers built, Altiris Agent installed on every client system, we've got software policies, we've got software installs to go with the policies, systems are remediating, software portal is set up for users, we're doing patch management, we've got the SAN space, we've set up the network properly for software to be distributed, pcAnywhere in use.  Assume all endpoints have the AClient already. So, short version, a spreadsheet with time assigned to each task or each solution, broken down by resource, with a time estimate for each.  Does not include Deployment Solution 6.9 SP3 or ServiceDesk 7, I'll post about that in the respective forums.

Currently, there are dozens of documents for NetBackup, all in PDF format.  This consists of several thousand pages of documentation that's difficult to search.  I suggest that these documents be ported to a HELP-style interface, with full-featured search capabilities.  This would provide faster answers to the users, and fewer calls to Symantec.

I've running a endpoint protection server V11.0.4204.MR4.MP2. I've created a set of Antivirus/Antispyware policies which I've assigned to the appropiate group. When I goto create my client install package I setup the group in the menu that I've assigned the special policies. The problem when I deploy the application, it appears as unmanaged, and doesn't contain any of the policies I've applied. I've verified the policies are applied and re-created the package, with exactly the same results. The installation of the client goes textbook, but it use's the wron settings. Any idea's? Thanks,

When installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0, some stations have the network threat protection installed and some don't. Did I do something wrong while installing these?

replication between two sites is incremental or copies the whole database everytime replication happens.

After installing the Endpoint Small Business Client on a Windows 2008 SQL server the program that we run (Vision 6.1) will not run on any other computers. The program is accessed through the web browser. We get an error loading the page. Has anyone run into this issue.

Hi symantec community, I've been delving over PDFs and Manuals over all symantec and still cant get a straight response, even i tried to get email support (and telephone) and it redirects me to symantec connect. The problem is that i need an official response from Symantec that Backup Exec 12.5 SP2 does not support security roles, and it depends entirely on windows permissions. I know ofr fact that it is as im descrbing it, but still i need an official response for a report over an installation of Backup Exec. anything that you recommend or require i'll be glad to help! Thanks for your time!

Hello, Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager needs to have more Functionality and Features in regards to Group Update Provider. Today, Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager RU5 have added good Functionality. Suggestions: 1) Customers do not have a way to create a Log for GUP seperately. We are looking forward for a Seperate...

Winfax 10.04 ISSUE - intermittent hourglass cursor in WIndows XP We had to give our CEO a new PC - loaded Winfax 10.04 as he loves the program and threatened us if we did not put it on. When ever we use Winfax - the PC has this constant, intermittent hourglass cursor in WIndows XP - kill the Winfax controller and associated processes and it stops. Any ideas? I saw someone suggested reinstall the printer but I think its something else. Thanks!

Dear Sir/Madam,   We bought 15 HP T5540 Terminals last month. These terminals all run Windows CE 6.0. The problem is that when we put the terminal on,  it register’s itself on the Altiris Deployment Server, (which we reinstalled with DP6.9 SP3). The Deployment server then upgrades the Altiris Agent to version 6.9.430, and after that I cannot manage it anymore.   The strange thing is that when I remove the Agent installer from the Deployment server and reimage the Thin Client so it gets it’s default CE installation (Latest image from HP.com website) and default agent (6.9.274 I believe) it runs fine and I’m able to send it reboot requests etc. (the Deployment server however keeps creating an Agent update task which cannot run because I moved the source files). After I move back the source files the Agent get’s updated and I cannot manage it anymore. Then I tried a terminal with CE 5.0, this is a T5530 because the T5540 doesn’t...

Hi, I have purchased SNAC Essentials and based on the data sheet I thought I could build my own LAN enforcer using RedHat rather than buy a hardware appliance. I had put aside a couple of HP DL360s for this purpose. I now cannot find any information on how to do this, and in the installation guide there is a comment "Earlier versions of Symantec Enforcer that were provided as software only are also not supported". So is there now no option to build your own enforcer and you must use a hardware appliance ? If this is the case I don't have budget until July to buy more hardware and may have to implement using DHCP as an interim measure. I hope for things like printers I can configure their ports to be non-NAC. Thanks Mick

About two weeks ago, I had to perform a full rebuild of a SEPM 11.4202.75 server.  Luckily I was able to restore the DB and the key stores files from the previous install.  Following the rebuild, I was able to sucessfully push out 300+ client package installs with the overwrite settings option using the Migration utility.  The was successfull on all of my clients with the exception of one member server.  I decided to do a manual uninstall of the client and liveupdate on the server and reboot.  Upon completion of the reboot, I ran the CLEANWIPE utility as I have on many occassions in the past.  Following the reboots from using CleanWipe, I attempted a manual install of the exported install package on a local console session of the server.   The install would appear to run smoothly (based on the progress bar) and would then begin a rollback near the end.  The Event Viewer showed where the MSI Installer service starts,...

My client purchased Symantec Endpoint Small Business suite. Thus all client workstation have the Symantec backup client. They would now like to both backup their Server and additionally have a central management backup console to manage backups within their environment. Please indicate what are the licenses needed to backup the server and also to have a central backup console to manage all backup clients on the network. Regards, Shane Barnes

Does anyone know of a way to run an executable in wise script and ensure it is run from the ‘System’ account when run? We need to deploy a package and have it run with the SYSTEM rights. We cannot find a method to do this through SCCM 2007 either. If anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Anthony

Hi, I'm using OS Server 2008 on a Dell E6400 laptop which is acting as the DHCP & File server for 21 E6400 laptops. I've configured it to use push Windows PE to the clients which then runs Ghost 32 to image the laptop clients. I'm using the Intel Vista Ultimate 82567LM NIC drivers (E1K6032.INF) and it works for 3 of the E6400 laptops consistently. If I time it just right I can ghost up to 8 of these laptops at a time. The trouble is if I start say 3 at a time and then another 2 about 5 minutes later I'll often (but not always) get it failing either trying to get the DHCP address or after Windows PE downloads to the laptop and the wpeinit (startnet.cmd) starts it will fail to retain it's ip address it received from DHCP and give a 169.XXXX loopback ip. I have been able to Ghost up to 8 of these E6400's at a time. I'm able to consistently Ghost with 9 Dell D810's and 1 E6400 starting them at different intervals but as soon as I have more than 3 E6400's ghosting at one time I run...

Using: Wise Installation Studio 7.0 Build 7.3.0.250 I've create a MSI install for our product that has worked well for us in general, however we are having one client that is receiving "blank" prompts at the end of the install, even when using the /qn command.  I've not been able to duplicate this issue on any environment in our test lab here. I've attached a screenshot of the prompt (in which 4 of them show in a row). If the user clicks through all 4 OK prompts, the installation finishes and works fine.  Ideally, the user shouldn't have to click through these prompts at all.  I've attached a zip file of the verbose log. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Symantec Workspace Corporate Demo Environment Symantec Workspace Corporate is becoming more and more popular as people understand the value of fast user switching in a Virtual Desktop (VDI) environment. Because there is so much excitement around the product, many users are starting to install SWC in a lab environment. Symantec Workspace Corporate has always been designed and tested in production environments which leads to some interesting issues when setting up a system in a lab environment. This document addresses one of those issues. Why Contact IT Help Desk Occurs Symantec Workspace Corporate has been designed to enhance security at the endpoint. Systems that run as Internet applications like SWC are required to be trusted. In a production environment the user would have a valid certificate to assign to the Web site running SWC. Symantec Workspace Corporate ships with the ubiquitous selfssl certificate. This certificate is the primary reason for this error. A part of using...
