The OpenStorage API enables partners to tightly integrate their disk-based storage devices with NetBackup. Using the OpenStorage SDK and developer support from Symantec, partners develop plug-ins to their storage device that allow NetBackup to control when backup images are created, duplicated, and deleted. The storage device controls how the images are stored and copied between storage devices. The end result is separation of backup business logic from storage device implementation.
OpenStorage plug-ins are installed on all NetBackup media servers that are connected to the storage device. The OpenStorage API enables protocol independent communication allowing partners to choose whatever protocol they desire (FC, SCSI, TCP/IP) for sending data from their plug-in to their storage device.
Joint customers benefit from better performance and utilization of their storage assets. Using OpenStorage-enabled storage devices, NetBackup administrators can better...

This presentation was given at Collaborate2009 and covers how to create virtualized Oracle servers utilizing Solaris Zones and make them completely portable, even to another data center.
The solution is accomplished with the Solaris OS, Oracle RDBMS, and Symantec (Veritas) Storage Foundation HA/DR. The portable “Oracle zones” are storage and replication-method agnostic, and the database files are “wrapped” so they can even be transported to other *nix platforms for backup or migration purposes.

We are in the process of getting EMS for our Wise Package Studio 7 sp3. We were wondering if anyone had some documentation on guidelines for configuring the Software Manager/Software Repository/Package Distribution. Or if anyone had any documentation on this they would be willing to share.
Any and all help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hey guys,
I'm trying to use the 'bplist' command to automate restoring data via a script.
bplist works fine, and returns the backup entries, but it does not include the year the backup ran - only the month, day and hour.
here's some example output:
root@ndmpmaster:/ > bplist -C gx03 -t 19 -B -l -b '/dd/v6'
drwxrws--- root cgi 4096 Jun 10 08:38 /dd/v6/
drwxrws--- root cgi 4096 Jun 05 00:10 /dd/v6/
drwxrws--- root cgi 4096 Jun 04 00:36 /dd/v6/does anyone know how to get the year associated with these backups?

Hi,
I'm new with SNAC. I have tested SNAC( + LAN enforcer) for wired LAN with cisco switch (3750), Microsoft Windows 2003 + IAS. It works fine but I can't extend NAC to wireless network. I use Cisco Aironet 1130AG which mode is autonomous. In SEP 11 Management Console, if I configure an action to OPEN PORT when successful, wireless client can switch to access vlan based on
Tunnel-Pvt-Group-id (set in IAS). But when I change this action to Switch to VLAN Access and disable VLAN attributes in IAS, Cisco Aironet can't change VLAN. While LAN Enforcer reports successfully in authentication, and in Aironet's web management, new event log is "Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx authentication fail". Why is happened ? Does anyone has been successful in SNAC+ wireless network? Do you have any document, any guide how to integrate SNAC with cisco aironet wireless ( autonomous ) ? please send to me !
Thank you !

Hello,
i have a customer who hosts more that 30 machines on Hyper-v cluster.
Because of that number of guest machines guest OS`s are located on GUID labeled partitions.
Can Backup Exec agent for Hyper-v backup those machines?. I think someone mentioned that GUIDs cant be browsed trough Backup Exc GUI while trying to select VM`s on that kind of Hyper-v host .
Thanks in advance.

First, the system of the client. We have several customers with the same problem, but different systems - this is just an example of one of our clients.
--------------------------------------------------
Windows 2003 Server Std. SP2
Intel Xeon CPU 3.20GHz
2 GB RAM
Enough free space on HDD
Veritas Backup Exec 10.0.5520
The server is used as a Exchange, File- and AD Server.
--------------------------------------------------
Now to my problems.
1. I know that store.exe takes a lot of memory, but is there any other way than edit the boot.ini to limit the use of memory for that process (that didn't work) - the problem is after a while we have to restart the service so the clients can continue their work and we got a lot of clients and can't spend our time by restarting their store.exe services.
2. The actual problem, as soon as I start a job in Veritas Backup Exec the service store.exe don't just uses a huge amount of memory (>1GB) , the service (store.exe) also uses about ~50%...

If you point your web browser to http://www.brightmail.com/IQServices you'll see our new online portal providing email security data to Brightmail administrators, email administrators and the general public.

I am running BEXEC 12.5 SP1 and I have noticed entries in our web proxy log file for a download of the threatcon.zip file every 5 minutes from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter
Is there a way to stop it from downloading these files? We do not use symantec for any protection products.

We are considering implementing SPN and are not sure of the best practice to use. We currently do backup for customers doing a combination of full and incremental backups. We also have customers doing the continuous backup.
To be most cost effective, do we need to migrate all business to a continuous backup? How is the cost/storage calculated if you do a weekly total, along with daily differentials? Our capacity cost would be based on the "sum of the total backup plus each individual defined incremental backup"??
We're trying to look at SPN from both a financial and best practices point of view. If anyone knows of a resource with additional information please let us know.

We have Endpoint Protection 11 and Backup Exec 12 installed on the same server with a Windows Server 2003 platform. Will this cause the 2 products to compete for system resources? When LiveUpdate is run for BEWS 12, it also runs for SEP 11. Is there a way to specify which product should be updated?

Hi All,
Is BE12 requesting SEP 11 manger to be installed in the BE12 server itself? If that so isn't it going to make the BE12D server crawl down due to the amount of resource taken by the SEPM?
