When adding the mac license for backup exec 12.5, I don't see a box checked with remote mac agent on the next page. Shouldn't I?

Hi Guys,
I'm new to EV,
I've received my new licensing Cert and File, but i have no idea how to check which license file is currently installed or how to update it? It would be much appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction. I've found a few articles but they haven't been helpful.
Any help is much appreciated,

Hi
I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period.
I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands. But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get.
Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/". But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information.
Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know.
Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further.

When I try to add the licence codes for the Hyper-V agent to my existing 12.5 server I get error V-225-53. Most of the other posts in the forum related to this message seem to be related to initial install or server upgrade.
Our Backup Exec server is fully patched via LiveUpdate and Windows update. Any Suggestions?

Is it possible to easily migrate from the Backup Exec 12.5 trial version to the licensed version?

Hi! The backup of my Mac OSX 10.5 server always have the error :
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000fe3c - Before you can back up this resource, you must purchase and install a license key for the appropriate Backup Exec agent. See the job log for details.
But the backup work! But not incremental, its always full, I guess because of the "error".
The data is on a SAN, but its a normal backup with the mac agent, does it need a san agent?
Not sure what to check next, the server is a BE 12.5Sp2, and the agent is the latest.
All my other other backup (Windows, Linux, Netware), the incremental and full work.
If someone has an idea,
Thank you,
Eric.

Hi,
I have 10 servers on a business network that I need backup using a DDT solution. I have a dedicated backup exec box with exec 12.5 license and 10 remote agent licenses. I have a gigabit switch which all the servers and nas are connected to, and a tapeloader that uses SCSI.
I know (by reading these forums!) that I need to create some B2D folders for the NAS and use job policies for the copying of data to the tape loader.
Are there any extra licenses I need to purchase for the NAS and HP Tapeloader?
Do you have any suggestions on the type of backup to roll with each night? would it be a big ask to have a full normal backup each night from each of the servers, or would it be more feasible to role a 'monday - full' and do differentials for the remainder of the week? As the NAS is not use for anything else besides backup I can copy the data to the tapes during the following day.
Would appreciate your input.
Thanks

Is there anybody understands the NetBackup For VMware licensing?
From the documents, Symantec did mention that if there is only one type of OS on one ESX node, ONLY ONE NetBackup Standard/Enterprise Client License is required. (We are using On-host backup, not VCB). What 's the definition of "one OS type"? For example, if we have 1 Windows NT, 2 Windows 2000, 4 Win 2003 (x86) and 1 Win 2003 (x64) on one ESX node, are they treated as four different OS types, or we only need one Netbackup client for Windows?
And how about the database agent? If there 1 SQL 2000, 1 SQL 2005 (X64) and 1 SQL 2005 (x64) on different VMs of the SAME ESX NODE, do I need to buy three database packs or one is enough?
Thanks,
Rockey Wen

Hi
We have a deployment where there are multiple NBU Servers, both on Windows and Linux. On the Windows platform, simply installing the license key activates the BMR option. However, on the Linux platform, installing the NBU license key does not activate the BMR option. It is greyed out.
To the best of my knowledge, BMR is not a separately licensed option, and comes with NBU.
My question is : Do we need to obtain a separate BMR license key for NBU on Linux? The BMR manual for Linux/Unix says this, but I am not sure how to obtain this. Is this a paid option?
When we use an evaluation key for NBU on Linux, the BMR option gets activated by default. In this case, we do not install a separate BMR license key. So I am confused even more.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

We bought licences for our Backup Exec 12.5 . We use Exec on one server and two remote agents. So we bougt 3 licences, one for Exec and two for agents. Activating of Backup Exec was ok. Problem is with agents. On PDF certificate is this SYMC BACKUP EXEC AGENT FOR WINDOWS SYSTEMS 12.5 WIN PER SERVER BNDL STD LIC GOV BAND S ESSENTIAL 12MO License Key(s): xx-xxxxx-xxxxx Quantity : 2 I used activating key and it activated only one agent. There is only one license key and it isnt acting as two licences, but quantity is 2. I cant use it twice. Licence Assesment tool shows 1/2 agent licences activated so im missing one license. But we bought two. Are we missing one licence key on pdf certificate?
Thanks for any help.

Hello
I'm using SBS 2008 premium,
As a host I've got running windows 2008 standard (from the SBS disks)
In the virtual:
SBS 2008 main & windows 2008 running SQL server
All the above is properly licensed with MS, all is from the SBS 2008 premium disks, I've purchased backup exec 12.5 for small business server premium, when i install the software it does not recognise the setup as SBS, in the symantec blurb it states 2008 premium as supported.
How can I use the licesnse key ?
Thanks

Hi,
Just wanted to verify before going ahead with this.
Successfully installed BE 12.5 using the eval copy and now we have a license key. To install the valid license key, I go to the place where you enter the key, but when I hit next I'm presented with what looks like an installation procedure....
Is this correct? Id like to not have to recreate my jobs, etc or even reboot the server. Will entering the valid key actually take me through a full reinstall??? Seems I should be able to just input a key without that hassle. Maybe there is no hassle?
First time doing this, so I just wanted to check with the pros! Thanks!

HI,
I'm considering switching to Symantec Endpoint Small Business 12 with a 10 user license.
My question is about licensing.
In 1 year, will my licenses expire so that i can no longer download updates, patches and definition files, or will that continue indefinately and that what i really lose, in 1 year by not renewing, is access to basic technical support?
I"ve been all over the Symantec website and I can't find a straight answer.
Can anyone please advise on how this works?
I really need to know if i'm going to be forced to renew all my licenses in 1 year or risk not being able to get automatic updates.
Thanks!

Starting with BackupExec v12.5, the server will attempt to poll the internet to get a Symantec ThreatCon status. If there is no internet access, or there's a timeout, every day an alert will result saying "The Symantec ThreatCon Level is not up-to-date".
Many of us have servers that do not and will not have internet access, and we don't want or care about ThreatCon. Every single day we get these nagging messages. Please make it stop!
In general, no application should attempt to communicate over the internet without permission. There needs to be an option to enable/disable this feature.

I am hoping that someone can answer what i think is a very simple question however Symantec Customer Care either bounce me around of cut me off.
My question:
I am runing BE 11d. I wish to backup a shared folder on a windows xp client - do i need an agent license or similar to carry this out being that i am not installing the agent. I have read and reread the license agreement and nowhere does it seem to cover this scenario. and it seems like such an obvious one that would need covering.
Can anyone help or provide me a definitive answer to this??
Many thanks
Steve

As far as I know, NetBackup still not support off-host backup for Xen Server. However, I do can use on-host backup by treating virtual machine as normal server. But I'm not sure that can it licensed as same as VMWare <licensing based on number of client OS of virtual machine> or not.

Windows 2008 R2 is now supported by Backup Exec 12.5. It is only supported as a remote server, it is still not supported a sa Media Server though.
The patch to install is available via live update or the following link.
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/331998.htm
Please make sure to read the install notes for the hotfix.

We used the Backup Exec License Assesment tool and it shows that we need to purchase additional LEO licenses for additional drives in our tape library. This is a little confusing because reading the informaiton concerning the LEO it seems to indicate that the license is purchased in order to have a library with multiple drives. Do you need to purchase a LEO for each drive in a library or just one LEO for a library with multople drives?

i just purchased a new drive for my Dell branded ML6000, running Backup Exec 11d. Do i need an additonal license to add this new drive to my robotic library? It only shows up in stand alone drives. i can move the two drive between stand alone and robotic library but can only seem to get one at a time int he robotic library.

I've got a WHS setup with quite a bit of storage. I've been messing with Backup Exec on a seperate server but the licencing for that server along with an agent would get rather expensive quick. I'm wondering if I move the LTO tape drive to the WHS server and purchase the Backup Exec SBS version, it'd work for that one server. I'm not terribly concerned about being able to rebuild the server from tape, rather I want to ensure that all my data in the 6tb data section of the WHS setup is properly backed up in the event of a drive failure.
The regular backup exec on the seperate server works just fine so just needing to know if the SBS version will install and function on the WHS server (it's basically just Windows 2003 anyway without Active Directory and a few addons.

Hello,
sorry for asking, but i can't find information on the official sites.
I own few versions of BESR 8.5. Is the "Update" to 8.5.5 free? Because under the Download-Section i don't find a "Service Pack Download" from 8.5 to 8.5.5 ?
Thank you for your information.
Yours sincerely,
Constantin

We have 150 licenses for use with the Altiris Recovery Solution. We upgraded to version 6.2.2801 a little while back and have been having consistent issues since that time. We intially had an (re-)install type screen popping up on every machine that previously had the client installed. We made it past that issue, however we do not want this to happen again...
We have approximately 40 PC's that SHOULD have the agent installed to them and be being backed up, however, the Altiris reports 141 licenses IN-USE. By using the pre-created report "," there are 132 computers with the agent installed. How are more licenses in-use than agents installed? How do I correct this and remove the agent silently from those 90+ machines that should not be being backed up? I do not want end-users to know that the client is being touched (removed).
A second issue is space contstraints that we have recently...
