Hey friends and fans of Symantec Workspace Virtualization, formerly known as SVS… SYS-CON has opened their Virtualization Journal “Readers’ Choice Awards” 2009 and this year Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite has been nominated for Best Application Virtualization. Last year Symantec was proud to win this award, as well as “Best App Virtualization Solution” for SYS-CON’s West Coast event.  It’s very cool to see our community participate and get this recognition.  For many years the SVS IT community has been bringing virtualization technology benefits into server-based-computing and alternative desktops, but primarily into the mainstay of IT - traditional rich client computing environments. As part of our Juice and Connect community, you’ve come from Altiris desktop management backgrounds, AppStream, with traditional and SaaS delivery models, nSuite in healthcare and SMB site support, and have used our products as the...

Hi all –  A couple of items of interest.  Voting is now open for the Windows IT Pro Community Choice awards.  Category #31 is “Best Virtualization Product” and Symantec Endpoint Virtualization has been nominated.  There are also many other great Symantec Altiris products in other categories.  Doug at DABCC.com just posted this several page overview of the Symantec Endpoint Virtualization suite.  If you use SWV or SWS and aren’t familiar with the other products in the suite it’s really a great summary and a quick read.   On August 20th, Symantec Workspace Virtualization 6.1 SP1 Beta announced program availability and sign-ups are here.   Our section on Connect continues to grow with great articles, blogs, tips and tricks from our internal and external community.  We love hearing your insight into how you’re making the SEV products work (or not!) in your environment.  These were some of my favorite...

Every job has repetition. This may start out as a minor annoyance, but it can quickly grow into a huge frustration. It reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day when the main character, Phil, finally snaps and kidnaps the groundhog to try to get the day to stop repeating.   However, there is a better way to handle this than what he did (i.e. drive off a cliff in a pickup truck). This morning, Symantec announced Workflow 7.0 and ServiceDesk 7.0, and both of these products have one underlying theme - they help businesses maximize efficiencies and minimize costs by automating repetitive tasks. This frees IT and other employees from monotony and allows them to spend their time in other areas, increasing their productivity.    Workflow 7.0 focuses on automation for businesses as a whole. Truthfully, when trying to figure out what can be automated with a workflow process, the sky is the limit. It is such a versatile product that our customers use it to automate...

As usual, lots of cool stuff at BriForum this year. About 25 vendors, hundreds of attendees, and as always, some of the industry's best sessions. Although this is traditionally a technical show around the Citrix and terminal services community, many attendee companies have already started looking at various forms of virtual desktop and have full scale pilots in progress. Aside from some of the ongoing debate around VDI versus Terminal Services, I was able to hear some really interesting dialog and debate on the need for virtual desktops in general. I've been hearing from more IT managers that have recently become responsible for both the traditional desktop infrastructure and the centralized, server based computing gear - this is a change. From their perspective the answer is yes, they're going to need both. They're going to have centralized, traditional and hybrid. Ruben Spruijt from PQR had several great sessions including his annual "Streaming Smackdown" with a review of...

Some time there is a particular article that describe some argument with a really detailed explanation. This kind of article or blog, is considered important by the community and the result is a high level of readers. My idea is about the creation of a Top 10 list for Articles and Blog for each application area . In this way will be easy to see the most viewed articles and know what is the best solution. I know this is an international forum and if this thread concerning the US IRS does not apply to you then please be patient and skip on to the next posting. Does symantec report the items that are sent to US residents to the IRS? Does the monetary value of the item sent determine whether or not it should be reported as income by the US resident receiver? What are the rules between services rendered and goods received?

Gartner, Inc. recently released its 2009 Magic Quadrant for Email Active Archiving report (Gartner “Magic Quadrant for Email Active Archiving” by Carolyn DiCenzo and Kenneth Chin. May 19, 2009) and positioned Symantec in the leaders quadrant. Symantec Enterprise Vault, which has been adopted by more than 10,000 organizations globally, provides customers with the most efficient intelligent archiving platform to reduce the costs of storing unstructured information such as email, file server and SharePoint content. Enterprise Vault allows organizations to store, manage and discover content enterprise-wide, and has become the foundation of many organizations’ E-Discovery and information management strategies today.

IDC released its quarterly Storage Software Report yesterday, showing the market has experienced its first year-over-year decline in more than five years. And while most companies experienced a decline in revenue, Symantec was the only company that actually broke the trend and demonstrated growth during this same time period -- narrowing EMC’s market share in Overall Storage Software. Part of Symantec’s success is due to its innovative storage and data protection software portfolio that helps organizations utilize current storage resources and ultimately save money. The report shows the following about Symantec: Symantec has narrowed EMC’s overall market share lead in Overall Storage Software (Symantec is number one among pure-play software providers) Symantec continues to dominate market share in the Data Protection and File System categories over EMC and IBM, among others. Symantec extends its market share lead over EMC in Storage Infrastructure Software....
