Console Error Unexpected server error. 0x10010000
I get the above error whenever I try to do pretty much anything on both my SEPM systems. I have rebooted both and have also followed a KB article about reconfiguring the Manager. Howerver, nothing is working. We are being slammed by a trojan of some kind today that has taken over pretty much every XP box and a lot of my Windows 2003 boxes. So far Vista and Windows 7 have not been touched.
I need to configure a different type of scan but can't!!!!

Hi,
We are considering Backup exec, we are currently running Redhat 3, 4 and 5. How stable has this been??
Is major issues with performance, reliability or any other quirkyness???
Thanks

We are testing CMS7 in our lab environment and have encountered problems with WOL.
We are able to reboot and shut the pc down however we cannot "wake" it up.
The settings in the BIOS are correct and we can wake it up from the DS but not from the NS.
Any suggestions?

I am having and issue with XP 32bit and Win Svr 2008 64bit systems both running 11.0.5002.333. This server is used only for file sharing. When an XP machine tries to browse the shares they get to watch the flashlight for about one minute and then the files eventually are presented to the user. However, when I tested this with a Win 7 64bit running the same version there were no problems viewing these files. After uninstalling SEP from the server the XP users have no problems viewing these shares. Everything was fine until this week. Anybody else having this problem?

Hello everyone. We've built an Office 2003 SWV layer in Win7, and for the most part, everything works wonderfully. However, if you open the thesaurus (the full blown side panel one, not the right click) it will take awhile ~5 minutes for the panel to appear. Any ideas what could cause this? Has anyone seen anything similarly?

Should I say I hit a milestone today? I all cases I have to say that my migration from VMWare to Virtual Box Open Source Edition was a real success, and I can't see myself moving back away from Virtual Box for a good while.
It didn't start so well when upgrading my main test computer (AMD quad core 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 1TB disk) from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10 causes a failure in one of my 250GB sata drives. After a couple of attempts to repair Ubuntu 9.04 or install Ubuntu 9.10 from USB I resorted to install the operating system on another drive, considering that the problem had to come from the disk partition I was installing the OS onto.
This was effectively the case, as installing on another disk and partition allowed me to run Ubuntu without too much problem (apart from a disk boot order setting in BIOS that jumped a couple of times getting me to a grub dead-end).
But then installing VMWare Server 2.0, which I used for the last year, worked out with a few...

Symantec must develop virus signatures that recovers the original registry stored in PC. Almost all of threats changed registry which is very tedious to IT personnel to restore the original registry setup.

We are experiencing an issue with Endpoint Protection when opening any file hosted on our file server from a client workstation. Whenever you open a file hosted on the network, it opens incredibly slowly on workstations that possess 100 mb NICs (rather than 1 gb).
Upgrading all of these clients to 1 gb NICs is not an option as many of them are laptops where it is simply not practical.
When you disable A/V, the files open isntantly so the problem is clearly Endpoint Protection.
Is there a way to speed up opening files on the local network without completely disabling Endpoint Protection's A/V?
Thanks in advance!

One of the great design decision behind the Notification Server design was to set it to run on top of IIS. In this manner the NS team didn't have to worry about scalability: this was all done by Microsoft thanks to the improvements made from IIS 4 to IIS 5 and now IIS 6 (IIS 7 is not yet in use for Altiris).
However one of the (minor) downside to the design is that there are a number of elements that are not necessarily clear or well known about the underlying architecture and configuration items.
So in this article we will review the components involved and some of the configuration items, from a workstation or package server agent all the way up to the client config manager objects.
Here is an overview of the elements we will review today (click to open in a new windows):
Starting from the client we know that the Altiris Agent communication interfaces are provided by the Notification Server on http or https using the IIS configuration (by...

We've been using Help Desk Solution for years and have never lost the ability to create New Incidents, access Reports, Tasks, perhaps other issues are wrong that we haven't yet tested. We can bring up the Worker View and find incidents, but the New Incidents feature disappeared from the Dashboard View and isn't working if we go to it directly. We noticed Reports and Tasks not working yesterday, then, today, the New Incidents disappeard. We know it's involving NS.
We've put in a critical call to Symantec. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Hello,
I have an issue where SEP client 11.0.5 64-bit AV/Anti Spyware only is installed on a Windows 2008 Ent. VMWare guest server. This server is used for file sharing only. I have a Citrix user mapped to a share on this server and is running a payroll processing program. When they process reports it is extremely slow. If i disable AV on the server, it starts processing at full speed.
So, i created a "User-defined exception" excluding this folder and have the box checked for "include subfolders". However, the slowdown still exists. The Citrix server does not have AV installed on it.
Any guidance with this problem would be helpful.
Thanks!

Please read on and see attachments (links below) for details............
I'm now thinking that SEP is actually responsible for most of our network slowdown issues.......... mostly because of what I see with GHOST interaction, and the fact SEP's firewall is alerting about things that can't possibly be happening! WE DO NOT HAVE IPV6 installed!
It's simply not here! but when we try to use a notebook, XP at that, as a ghost server, SEP chokes it down terribly, shows issues in the logs via Teredo hits (IPv6), and causes CPU and memory to spike, network throughput to tank.
Here goes - see below and attachments for many details and screenshots!!!
SEP has a problem and I think I can prove it.
SEP kills ghost processes and causes huge network traffic choking on some computers here, causing the ghosting process to choke, SMC shoots up in CPU and memory use.
We are trying to use notebooks as portable ghost servers, please read on, and see the attached...

I am a USG employee authorized to utilize the SEP on my home computer as I sometimes work from home.
I recently clean installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit final release on my home computer. I installed SEP 11.0.4 and noticed that NTP is not showing up in the status page. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as a custom install, as well as according to previous advice for the beta versions, but NTP still does not show up. According to the client management system log, NTP is activating.
I went to the Symantec support website for advice and there was a recommendation to do a change/ modify install. I opened the control panel, right clicked and selected the change then modify option. There is no red X next to the NTP so it appears to be installed. I followed the instructions anyway, but it didn't work. The fix is posted at Network Threat Protection does not appear in the user interface after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection
This same problem was reported by others using...

We have several dual boot Intel based Mac Minis (1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo with 512 MB of RAM) with Windows XP SP2 on them. When I first installed Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 ( more specifically 10.1.9.9000) on them, everything seemed OK. However as time passed (a few days) the mac minis under XP have slowed down to the point that they are virtually unusable. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Aside from uninstalling the antivirus, has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I would really appreciate any help/suggestions that you could give me.

Hi,
Can someone please tell me what ports i should be opening on both my Server 2008 R2 as well as my Windows 7 PC's?
I am only a small home user with a server because i like to tiner and learn.
I have 5 workstation connected over a gigabit network.
My primary issue... when i download anything from the web to a network share, when it gets to 99% complete... it literally hangs for about 30 - 45 seconds before completing.
Moving or copying files from server to workstation or workstation to server is almost instant.
Downloading a file to workstataion completes almost instantly. But again, downloading directly to a network share, it hangs right at the last moment, for a long time.
This only began after upgrading my antivirus across my network to SEP 12 SB, so i "think" it's related.
On my network shares, i even opend up the mapping's share to EVERYONE with full control and file level security to EVERYONE also with full control and it does not resolve the issue....

We have unwanted messages - approx. 1000 by day - we cannot catch them. These spams have tipically the following characteristics:
RDNS fails
the body contains only HTML tags (img src, href)
tipically Chinese pharma spams
no plain text content
IP of the sender is changing - probably DNS pool
sender address: xyz@hotmail.com, xyz@yahoo.com - where xyz is random generated string
contains only remote image with link
Step by step description needed... General theoretical solutions do not help me.
Thanks,
Ferenc

I was offered a free download of Symantec through my graduate program, and downloaded it onto my boyfriend's HP laptop since I have a Mac and no security issues. He has not been able to connect to the internet since. I have tried every method of troubleshooting I can think of, but I'm just not that PC-savvy. Unfortunately neither the guy at Radioshack (where he bought the computer) nor HP tech support can figure out the problem. Both are blaming it on symantec, so I uninstalled it for him. He still can't get online. I've turned his firewall off, that did nothing, I turned it back on that did nothing. I've restarted the computer after each attempt to change whatever settings, but to no avail. The most frustrating thing is that he is connected to our wireless network and the connection is strong with all bars- he just can't get the browser to connect to the internet. The guy at RS told him to re-install his browser- but how? He...

I am tired of trying to contact a person at Symantec or clicking on "Help", and getting nothing but computer generated responses, that usually have nothing to do with my problem. Symantec purposely avoids supplying any Support Hotline because they want noone to ever call them with an actual problem. The program has been, for the past 10 years, seemingly better than MacAfee, or any others that I've heard of, but the Customer Service is truly LOUSY!

We're managing roughly thirty computers and regularly need to reimage the machines, as it's a lab enviornment. Nevertheless, upon the deployment of an image to one lab (roughly 13-16 PC's), the network becomes completely unusable for both lab enviornments. Therefore, we must wait until the end of the day to reimage.
Right now the network is situated so that both lab enviornments share a single T1, which is plugged into a Netgear FVS318 Router; the router handles all DCHP for the lab. The Ghost Server is directly plugged into the Netgear Router and there are two Linksys SR224 swiches, which handle both lab enviornments.
Should the Ghost server be plugged into one of the two classroom switches, rather than directly into the router? Is there another configuation of the network that would work better? Is there a setting which I need to modify within the router like RIP, or RIP Directon?
Thanks in advance,
CF

All,
We have SEP MR4-MP2 deployed in most of our offices and recently we noticed an issue with huge network degradation on some of our laptops using wireless. The issue appears to be related to 802.11n and disappears once we disable Network Threat Protections. In testing I found that RU5 fixed the issue on several clients. At this stage I am try to determine what is the root cause of the issue is and was wondering is anyone has come across this issue already and found the cause.
According to our networking guys assisting with this the laptops are seeing heavy packetloss (40-50%) and were already running the latest Intel 12.4 client. Continued investigation lead them to disable SEP, which resolves the issues immediately. SEP running – packetloss, SEP not running – no packetloss.
At this stage we are not in a position to upgrade our entire company to SEP RU5, so I need to determine what is causing the issue and right now the main culprit...

Windows XP Pro SP3. Nothing seems wrong.
Antivirus and Antispyware Protection On
Proactive Threat Protection On
Network Threat Protection On
All updated today.
This stupid question always there. Maybe restarting computer is must after it updated online. But I don't like to restart my server frequently. I think I'd better go back to AVG, which is small , smart and totally trouble free.
Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

I had recently set up a power policy for shut down 4 computers in my network. This worked fine for a while but now it has started to spread to other computers that I do not want shut down. I have gone into the NS and deleted the power management job but the computers are still shutting down.
as a test I went and removed the Altiris Agent from the computers and this seemed to resolve the problem but the Agent has tobe on those computers for inventory and patch management. So I put the agent back on. The power is shutting off again even though no job exists. What can I do to resolve this problem.
