the last week, i did a Rip with Rapid Install, then i wanted to create another one, then i erased all baselines (with some files from Rinstall) now i try to create a base line, first it sent a message "can´t find rintall.bin" , i paste rinstall.bin from another installation, but when it try to create a baseline sends a message "error 1". i erase more files (i think ), but i can´t see any changes. i can´t re-install because a lot of users are logged to this computer(server)and if i do any changes, the users can lose data. i need one way to restore Rinstall without reinstall and i have back ups. or Can i replace the folder from any last back up?

For some background, I have had trouble with some annoying "Unexpected server error. ErrorCode: 0x10010000" events.  To attempt and fix this issue, I ran the Management Server Configuration Wizard (which I saw, in various forums, could remedy this error code).  I went through the wizard and selected embedded database (since this is what I have always used for my database) placed a password for my database and left the rest of the settings at the default.  Now when I attempt to login to the Management Console, I get the message "Failed to connect to the server" and I cannot do anything.       When I try and run the Management Server Configuration Wizard again, I cannot get past the place where it asks me for my port that the embedded database server uses.  I have tried the various ports that I thought it should be and left the default.  How do I find out the port that my...

Hello, I have read the previous posts concerning the creation of these temp files when explorer is open and a new virus definition update is scanning.  My problem is a little more difficult. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit with Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition v. 10.2.1.1000 On boot, the Auto-Protect window opens saying that it has attempted to clean a Bloodhound.Exploit.196 from  "emp/DWH246.tmp"    The problem is, the computer crashed at some point while this file was being cleaned.  So I believe the file was in a C:/Temp or D:/Temp directory, but now is only shown as "emp/" in Auto-Protect and the Risk History with no drive letter.  Because of this, I cannot clean, restore, delete or do any actions because SAV cannot find the non-existent directory. I do not think that this is actually being picked up on the boot scan, so advice as to how I can manually edit or delete the SAV file where the...

Hello, we are using Storage foundation 3.2.539 on a server 2000 Operating System, which mainly controlled a SAN via Fiber Channel; the SAN consisted of 2 JBOD's with an Embedded RaidWatch Software called RaidWatch. The server 2000 server in which storage foundation was installed and configured on crashed, we are in the process to attempt to recover but we are in need of access to the SAN.  We installed new drives to install a fresh operating system. We had the SAN configured with disk groups and within the disk groups we had disks to partitions, the question I have is that since Storage foundation was the software used to configure the SAN storage to a disk/partition level. If we install the same storage foundation software and attempt to hook the SAN back up, will we loose the SAN? if not what are the steps to take.I ask this because I'm not sure where the actual data is held on which the SAN was configured on the server side or JBOD side. The Raidwatch is...

Hi, We use Backup Exec System Recovery 8.0 to back up our mail server drives, we want to use the Granular Retore Option software to retreive e-mails from the exchange backups. Backup's of the C drive (Backup Exec System Recovery intallation) and D drive (Exchange Folders) are taken as seperate recovery points. To help us to archive the backup's (currently to DVD) we split each complete recovery point into smaller chunks. When using the Granular Restore option to try ant retreive e-mails from exchange / mail server backups by selecting the sv2i file it the program stops responding and never shows the backups contents. Is this due to the backup's being split up into smaller segments? Regards J.Chudley

Hi. I have a lenovo s10, which does not come with a OS cd. It has a recovery key but the key is broken.....Anyway, So, I got an original image and want to restore my pc to the factory default using the image. So, I burned ghost to a cd using a usb cd burner, I then put the .GHO file of the image onto a thumb drive. The instructions say boot from the cd drive, then plug in the thumb drive while it's booting. For some reason ghost can't find my thumb drive when I select local -> disk -> from image. It only gives me drives like a: Local drive, b: local drive, etc.... And can't detect my thumb drive. Anyone know how to restore my pc? Oh, and I also tried booting from the thumb drive, it doesn't do anything.

HI! When I try to restore Windows Server 2003 x86 with Bare Metal Restore option of NetBackup 6.5.4 on remote client (I try it on a physical and virtual machines), client says: PXE-E74: bad or missing pxe menu and/or promt information. DHCP works perfectly; NetBackup BMR Boot server installed on different non-DHCP server. It is error in boot image or not? What will be suggestions? Regards!

Dear All, We are facing problem in recovering folders from BESR file and folders backup. As while recovering a folder on different destination folder (not an original folder) all files included in subfolders are getting extracted to the folder where we are recovering the backup. For e.g, If I am taking the backup of following folder structure located in (C:\Tracking): -Folder1      |- SubFolder1               |- File1.txt               |- File2.txt               |- MoreFolder1                      |- File3.txt                      |- File4.txt   ...

Backup recommendations for Enterprise Vault 8 using SAN I would like recommendations on backups of Enterprise Vault 8 data on SAN. The SQL database backups should be straightforward, but not sure about the vauld data on the SAN disks. What is the best way to backup the data (not SQL)? How often? Thanks

Hi all, Since fixing a Journal Task related issue in a previous thread (www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/event-id-6502-and-2856-after-upgrading-sev-2007-sp4-sev-2008-802) I now get these three errors when the Journal Task is in a running state. MSMQ also generates thousands of messages that look to be the exact same size. It almost looks like the system is in some form of loop. The normal mailbox archiving is still functioning perfectly. EVENT 2850 Whilst post processing a message an error occurred in CArchivingAgent::PostProcessArchivedItem() whilst calling CExchangeShortcutAccessor::BuildFromSessionAndLocation(). Hi all, I have a really annoying issue that is preventing SEV from archiving to my current vault since I upgraded from SEV 7 to 8. Shortly after the upgrade which passed all checks and went through 100%, all was well until these two events starting filling up the Windows Event Log (Symantec Enterprise Vault). The product doesn't appear to archive once this message starts up and it fills the event log at a rate of around 60 events per second, so it grows to a full log in a matter of minutes. Event ID 2856 is almost always followed by 6502. EVENT 2856 Failed to find configuration information for the Journaling Agent in the Directory Service on computer RSAVAULT This could be because the Task was deleted before completing all its outstanding work. Task entry id: 1845C5CF1F750CF4293292F98040574AF1011y00vault.rennies.co.za EVENT 6502 Failed to inform the Journaling Service of unsuccessful storage of a Saveset in a Vault Store. We are using backup exec 10.0 to backup and trying to restore to different hardware.  We have backed up to external USB drives.  I installed the newest version of BE on the recovery server.  Then inventoried the backup drive (176 files) selected all and catalogged the bunch.  It appears to be taking 30+ minutes per file.  I thought that the catalogs were stored on the backup file an that they should be able to be retrieved very quickly.  Am I missing something? If I have to wait several days just to catalog the files this is not a viable solution.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. jcm

My v12.5 IDR restore of a 2008 server keeps reporting the following two errors (one, then the other right in a row) when at the "Connect to Media Server" page: Unable to add service account to the local Administrators group (http://entsupport.symantec.com/umi/V-290-192) Unable to establish connection with the media server (http://entsupport.symantec.com/umi/V-290-193) Lots of ugly details: My Media Server is a Windows 2000 Standard Server, running BE 12.5, patched to the latest. My restore server is a Windows 2008 Standard Server, using an IDR boot CD with the latest .DR file on it. My Media Server does not have a running firewall. Both servers are on the same subnet - there is no firewall between them. Our network does NOT have WINS - which might be part of the the problem?   See last post in the thread:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/idr-not-able-see-media-server Earlier in the IDR Wizard, at the "Select Recovery File",...

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible with BESR 8.5 to create a job (or a script) which would incrementaly backup a physical machine, transfer the incremental backup files to an ftp and convert these backup into a fresh virtual machine. Here would be the steps: 1. locally backup the physical machine (incremental backup) 2. Ftp the files to an ESX machine 3. consolidate the backup files (optional step) 4. Create a virtual machine from the incremental backup files. This would be a good DR for the physical machines. Thanks a lot for you help and for your suggestions ! Eric

Hello all!  Looking for some advice, and info again! I am receiving .dr exceptions in me job log, and I read that the IDR should be used...yada...yada. I see the wizard and such, but was wondering, since I have seen questionable issues surrounding this tech ni BE, what the real benefits are, what's the best method to implement, understanding the difference between these boot disks and the boot tapes and such. The way I'm envisioning it, please correct me: I have a storage server seperate from my media server.  I create a bootable CD image or tape for a particular server.  This is the .dr file.  I can keep this image on the network storage unit and can burn it off to tape during a disk to tape dump.  If we ever have a problem and need to perform a recovery, then we can attach to the image and re-deploy the OS, and any changed files across the network. Or the image will need to be burned to CD and the machine booted from the CD then restored to the server?...

I was wondering what the standard procedure for restoring has to say about catalogs. The usual scenario for having to do a full restore from backups is that the server crashes entirely and we restore an image of the server to a new machine, but in that event the backups we'll be restoring with are newer than the image of the machine so Backup Exec will not have the current catalogs. According to the support pages I should be able to create new catalogs based off of the newer media, but time and time again this has not worked, even using all the workarounds. Usually errors include "unable to inventory media number 7 in the set" and just other errors that will not allow a new catalog to be created. I've tried every solution and am now just making copies of the most recent catalogs in an unencrypted form along with the backup exec daily backups. Is this the best solution? Has anyone run into this problem or found a better process? Any input on this would be much appreciated,...

Hello, I have a client whose server hardware failed. They needed data from tapes 4 months previous to the failure. I have been told the backups were complete backups and were successful. The backups are of Windows Small Business server 2003. The tapes have been cataloged and take about 40 minutes to complete the catalog process. They complete successfully (Obviously there are no on Disk catalogs to rely on, all catelogs are from the tape). When you go to the restore tab, with an unfiltered date view, you can see the resources to restore from. When you expand the resource for the hard disks, there are no files listed. Looking at the SQL, Exchange, system state etc they all have items to restore. Clicking a drive letter (C:, D: or E: in this case) shows no folder structure or files. Has anyone seen these before ? The client informs me that the backups were previously used in a recovery to the old server and the folder systems were in place. It would seem the ondisk catalogs...

Hello, We have Veritas NetBackup as the platform to perform our backups. The datacenter where we are housing our servers are telling us that they are receiving the following error while backing up a certain directory: "NOL_UNLUGAR_UX_FILESYSTEM_01", and that the cause of this error is probably because the directory is damaged. We are almost sure that this directory is not damaged, but its somewhat peculiar: the directory only includes symlinks, 85000+ symlinks to be more precise. Could it be this the reason because NetBackup is failing? maybe a misconfiguration on the NetBackup server side? This is very strange because for almost two months algo the backup was working without any problem.  Thanks in advance. Leandro Martinez :: System administrator
