We have a mixed Novell & Microsoft environment. Alot of computers. Close to 3500 if not more on two SEPM's and couple GUP'S for smaller sites.
I checked out a Novell computer in one of my SEPM groups. I go to the 'General' tab. I checked out the entry for 'Domain or Workgroup'. What I saw was the DNS suffix. I should have seen the workgroup name since all Novell computers are in there. I then proceed to look at a MS computer. Again I saw the DNS suffix as opposed to the domain name. Is this a known bug? Because of how many computers we have it would be helpful to know which belong to a domain and which belong to a workgroup.

11.0.4202 is running on my PC and I noticed that my proactive threat defs are not updating. How can I fix this?
Also, how do I know that other computers on my network are not having the same issue? When I look in the manager console I don't see a way to verify that all the clients on my network have the latest proactive threat defs. Is there a way to monitor this? When I pull up the Truscan threat protection distribution page it has no data in it.

I upgraded a Small Business Server 2008 server to Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12 MR1. Everything upgraded fine from 12.0 on the server and clients. However Endpoint Protection Center is reporting all clients disabled th even though they're not. I don't have Network Threat Protection installed on the clients though and I haven't prior to MR1 without issue. When I click on the reported number of clients (7) the report shows "Disabled(Network Threat Protection is off)" for all the clients.

I'm having trouble understanding the relationship of some of the tables in Symantec_CMDB created by NS7.
Can you describe how ResourceAssociation and ResourceTypeHierarchy fit into the bigger picture?
I'm specifically looking at it from a Patch Management perspective and trying to understand the chain of relationships from a particular Bulletin, to a specific update, the inventory rules associated, etc.
Thanks,
Mitch

I would like to be able to generate a report on the usage of the individual components of Microsoft Office. Currently, I noticed that excel, powerpoint, etc are catalogued under one application name: "Microsoft Office XP".
I've checked the AeXAMInventory.txt and AeXAMDiscovery.txt file and both files seem to list these components as Microsoft Office XP.
Is there a way to modify the software metering configuration on the client so that the individual components can be catalogued under their own application name ? Or to have a runtime report that lists these components individually ?

I have a GUP at each remote facility I have to manage. The GUP's are active SEP 11 clients and are designated as GUP's, but I have not yet put any other clients in those same folders, meaning no clients are currently getting updates from teh GUP's.
On the SEPM, if I go to Monitors > Logs > System > Client-Server Activity I see tons of entries of Event Type DBDATA_EVENT_TYPE_x0 from some of my GUPS, but not from any machines that are not GUP's. I have attached a screenshot. Hopefully some of you folks have seen this.

On the Monitors screen on the SEPM, if I choose the Logs tab and then choose Log Type of SYSTEM, Log content of CLIENT ACTIVITY and then Event type of INSTALLATION EVENTS, all I get shown is Event Type of INTERNAL ERROR with the Description of "Firewall drive failed to open network adapter" for a couple different machines. Anyone else seen this?

I have a netbackup masterserver (6.5.4) running on windows 2003 and trying to do a FULL-restore on a VM-client (3.5).
The restore process would complete. However, it would not OVERWRITE old files.
Anyone else having this problem?

I'm looking to build either a collection or report on what computers have less than 2GB of RAM installed. After running some default reports and building collections that I would think would work I seem to get a discrepancy in my numbers. Do you guys have any best practices or sample reports to get these numbers correct?

I have finally found the software that is scanning our machines on our network. I'm in desperate need to solve this problem because I have the boss on the case.....brilliant......On the home tab of our SEPM is showing attacks on our network of 300 plus and I'm pretty confident its all to do with the VNC software we use.I know the local and remote ports that are scanning and being scanned. How can I stop these reports appearing on the home tab and block the constant port scanning that is going.
Thanks for your time

Hi,
In order to provide upper management with overview of the Antivirus situation throughout our IT infrastructure, over 1500 clients, I need to have them access the “Home” Tab of SEPM, the page with the “Security Status” indicator. The real time reporting functionnality is the one interesting me the most.
This ideally will be through a http link.
Is there any way to do the trick?
Best regards.

When I try to access reports, I get a JavaScript error:
Error: 'null' is null or not an object

Any chance there's a fix for this?

Greetings,
DB replication failure Email notification only send when setting as following conditions.
--- In “Edit Notification Condition”
Check “Replication failure” and set “Informational and above” in severity menu.
I think this specification couldn’t satisfy the user who wants to send Email alert only when the error occurs.
As above settings allow to send a lots of Email notifications other than replication failure event.
I think this should be improved to meet the user’s demand.
Thanks
Taichi

I am a USG employee authorized to utilize the SEP on my home computer as I sometimes work from home.
I recently clean installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit final release on my home computer. I installed SEP 11.0.4 and noticed that NTP is not showing up in the status page. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as a custom install, as well as according to previous advice for the beta versions, but NTP still does not show up. According to the client management system log, NTP is activating.
I went to the Symantec support website for advice and there was a recommendation to do a change/ modify install. I opened the control panel, right clicked and selected the change then modify option. There is no red X next to the NTP so it appears to be installed. I followed the instructions anyway, but it didn't work. The fix is posted at Network Threat Protection does not appear in the user interface after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection
This same problem was reported by others using...

Hello everyone! I know SEPM reporting is rather limited but I am sure there is a way to do this!
I need to dump out the "Last login" or "Logon Client" in the SEPM world. I can't find it in the reports, but it is obviously recorded as when you go to the clients you can tell individually. I went through the reports, and then through the admin guide, can't find anything.. hmm.
Thanks in advance!

I am tired of trying to contact a person at Symantec or clicking on "Help", and getting nothing but computer generated responses, that usually have nothing to do with my problem. Symantec purposely avoids supplying any Support Hotline because they want noone to ever call them with an actual problem. The program has been, for the past 10 years, seemingly better than MacAfee, or any others that I've heard of, but the Customer Service is truly LOUSY!

Windows XP Pro SP3. Nothing seems wrong.
Antivirus and Antispyware Protection On
Proactive Threat Protection On
Network Threat Protection On
All updated today.
This stupid question always there. Maybe restarting computer is must after it updated online. But I don't like to restart my server frequently. I think I'd better go back to AVG, which is small , smart and totally trouble free.
Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

Today, Friday the 13th of November 2009 I'm a guest of Symantec in the Lindon office in Utah. There I will work with the SWV team to show them how we use SWV, and we talk about real time issues that we see with SWV.
All to make it much better then it already is.
It is so great to see all the people who work on SVS and now SWV to make it even better.
Most of them I already know because they are frequent Connect visitors, but now I see the faces behind the names.
I can not say anything, but believe me:
SWV will get better and better.
Cheers from Utah

I would like to add an idea about online status of the users in Symantec connect.
It will be good to see a status icon(small bubble) beside user virtual face(avatar) like Green for online orange for inactive etc....
It will be easy for us to know the person availability and do PM.
