Just wondering if anyone's having a similar issue? I've installed BESR on to a few Server 08 R2 boxes as it finally supports Exchange 2010 (main reason for purchase). This works and backs up as expected which is great. However, when loading the Granular Restore it quotes it will work with Outlook 2003/2007/2010 but with the Outlook 2010 beta installed it claims no Outlook client is detected which I find a bit poor? Currently I've tried with the 32bit version of Outlook as I know with Win7/Vista the 64bit client isn't always detected by iTunes/WMDC so figured it might be a similar issue. Any ideas?

I remember using some key combination would present you with an advanced option menu within the SRD environment giving you other options during a Restore job, however I do not remember what the key combos were and now I can't seem to find those options. Can someone help me with this one. As a hint, I remember one of the special options being related to not scanning for new drivers during a Restore Anywhere job. Thanks and sorry for my lack of clarity on it as I haven't used the options in a while. CAT

Hello, Iam testing the Desaster Recovery for an Windows Exchange 2007 Server running on a 64bit Windows2003 Machine. Iam using BE 12.5. I set up a testing Enviroment, with our Active Directory. Then I set up a BE 12.5 (testing version) in this enviroment too. Then I set up a Wind2003 64bit on a new machine for the recovery test. I copied the IMG and B2D files containing the Image and SystemStae of our live Server to the Server in the testing enviroment. Servername: srv-mail-01 Domain: whatever.mydom -- examples of course :-) I followed the steps unt No. 10 in this document for recovering the system State and so on... http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/236286.htm Here is the problem now: When I try to recover the server BE does not find it. I guess because BE is looking for srv-mail-0.whatever.mydom and the "new" server wich si still in the workgroup has the name srv-mail-01 WITHOUT the domain? File redirection seems not to work, its just coping the files to the server...

I've got several partitions, namely OS 50 GB, Database 500 GB and Log 150 GB not all of them is full, the total data usage is around 95 GB and I'd like to restore it into single partitions of 350 GB new RAID-1 LUN, How can i do this ? since each partitions is saved into each own file and one file can only have one single destination ? Thanks.

Hey all, I'm in the process of setting up replication for my EV environment (8.0 for Exchange SP3).  It's fairly large - over 15,000 archives plus journaling for the entire infrastructure, a total of 9 archiving/journaling servers, plus DA.  We currently have our indexes/databases on EMC Clariion CX4 and our archives are on EMC Celerra. We've engaged consulting from Symantec professional services and have been working with EMC to get a replication solution in place for off-site DR.  We aren't planning on a hot-backup site with clustering - just having a DR envrionment available and replicating our disk that we can bring online if necessary. Either way we cut it, we are going to need to do a migration of the Celerra, because we cannot make it work the way it needs to for consistent replication.  EMC is trying to talk us into migrating ALL of our disk to the CX4 and using Recoverpoint to replicate to our off-site location.  I can't find any...

I tried restoring a News items and Discussion items on my Sherpoint Server and i have noticed that the dates have been changed to a current date and time when restore job was done. When i restored multiple discussions all of them now have the same dates - THIS IS UNACEPTABLE ! ! !  Am i doing something wrong?

Hi! I have made a rather large pst migration and it went pretty well. Our intention is to restore back this mails into the mailboxes in a while. Users are almost satisfied and discovered a lot of very old mails and started to delete unwanted mails(shourtcuts) from the archive. We has made a setting that nothing is deleted from the archive, just the shortcuts in the mailbox. Now I notice with fear that when I make a restore it also restore the mails that the users has deleted. Is there any way to restore only those mail that has active shortcuts in the mailbox? Hi I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period. I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands.  But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get. Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/".  But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information. Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know. Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further. PVR

I am using Ghost Solution Suite 2.5, with all the latest updates.  (This includes GhostCast Server 11.5.0.2113.) I have been loading this image onto several machines using a simple boot disk and manually starting the GhostCast session on the client.  Now I am trying to automate it all by adding the necessary switches to the Ghost32 command line on the boot disk.  I thought I had all the same switches, but on machines using my original boot disks, the image loads just fine.  However, on a machine using my new boot disk (connected to the exact same GhostCast session from the server), it stops and prompts for the next segment.  Of course, I cannot get to the next segment because I'm using GhostCast; if I cancel on that machine, the other machines continue on their merry way. Here is the manual steps I was doing on the original boot disks: I had the -noide switch built into the command to start Ghost. When Ghost starts, I go into options and...

See forum link for detail (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/file-system-archiving-roll-back-methods-and-fsautility) Could FSAUtility be altered to allow rollback without overwrite ? Chris

I have a medium to large organisation with around 50TB of unstructured data. They have implemented FSA v8SP2 with a view to archive around 70% of this data to an EMC Centera based on a Not Modified for 6 months policy targeting Office and Media files The Archive Target file servers are DAS and SAN with volumes between 250GB to 600GB and supporting around 4000 Windows Shares There have been a number of occasions where the Business or IT BAU Team has requested FSA be rolled back on a sub-folder within these 4000 shares and on examination of the methods one might use to perform this we have concentrated on FSAUtility. I have posted on this tool being a rather blunt object previously and here is some detail why:   I have a 300GB Windows Share (Share1) that is an Archive Target with around 74,000 files Within this Share I have a folder (FolderA) which I would like to un-archive of 120GB and 30,000 files. I use the command line:...

Hi I am currently busy with a DRP exercise and is restoring 2 backup jobs from a LTO1  tape. I am using backup Exec 10d. When I catalog the tape, only my second job is catalogued 113gig. My exchange information store, 30gig backup job shows 0 bytes. According to backup exec on my live server both backup jobs ran successful. The first backup job is set to overwrite and the second job is set to append only. Please assist Thanks Ivan

Of couse, this is the feature that already exist in other software such as TSM Fastback and Acronis. But I think it should also available within BESR and BEWS. Let say that when you submit restore job and the restored files/system suddenly accessible. The blocks that requested by application will be redirected to the backed up copy while the restore job running in background until finish. In case of BESR, after you submit the restore job. The system reboot to Windows system and start working while the restore job working in background. Of course, the performance of Windows (and application) on restoring system should be effected. But thinking of very very reduced RTO to nearly zero, I think that it worth.

I have read many of the help topics in my Veritas 9.1 (with Exchange Component) It is hard to sort out what you can and can't do depending on if you do a MB/Public B/U or storage group BU and if you are restoring to original location, RSG or Redirecting. Im making a chart with backup this to restore this etc. cause its so convoluted in the helps. Anyway as I'm working my way along there is one Veritas help article that is titled "Redirecting Exchange 2000 and 2003 Storage Group and Database Restores" One paragraph says, *************************** Following are requirements for redirecting restores: The storage groups and databases must already exist on the target server, and have the same names as the original storage groups or databases. ************************* I have a couple of questions regarding this.  (by the way I understand that its talking about BUing up the (first) storage group, not individual MBs and public folders.) 1. How am I suppose...

Hi there, I just started this job 3 weeks ago and my boss wants me to go and inventory and catalog there old tapes from 08 and 09 and mark the allocated date on each tape so we can organize it. I am new to Backup exec but have tried to take all the necessary actions to do this correctly. I have put in the tape and selected inventory, it comes back successful. I then chose to categorize it and it takes its time to catalog the data and that comes back successful. The issue i have is the allocated date does not change when i look in the device tab. My boss tells me to right click on the media under media label and select restore. When i do that it comes back Error "the selected media was not found in the catalogs. You must first catalog the media if you want to use it for restore operations." I have done that already some tapes 3 times. I took a look in the forums already and someone said if you go in tools>options>catalog>uncheck "Use storage media...

Hi All, I recently installed Backup Exec 12.5 SP 2 onto a server with a tape device attached.  I am using GRT to backup exchange info store and backing up to tape.  I have set the "temporary location for log and patch files" using Tools>options>Microsoft Exchange to a location on a local NTSF data drive other than the system drive.  However when I try to restore an individual item it tries to mount to c:\temp which is not the specified location. I have worked with this product for a long time but have never observered this behaviour before, If anyone could help me quickly I would appreciate it. Regards, Peter

BackupExec 11d. Exchange 2007 SP1. Some times ago, I tried to follow the article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h... to restore a mailbox using RSG and it worked fine. Today I am trying to redo the test, you never know, and in fact ... it does not work anymore. Initially, doing the same steps, I encountered the infamous error "0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. " and googled to find no answer. So I decided to try mine solution: remove RSG in Exchange and recreate one. After this step, the job (correctly set up with Redirect Exchange Set --> Redirect using VSS --> Redirect to RSG) runs and ends without errors. However, there is NO file under the RSG location (X:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\RSG20091116130840.) so when I tried to mount the RSG, no mailboxes are located into. Do you have some suggestions ? I can't think...

Hi all, I have a tape which has a label of "131109" which was has been taken from a different Master Server which has a standalone drive, I need to restore data from this tape at a different site with different master server. the differnt Master Server has a robotic tape library. I have run an inventory & the robot has issued the media ID of "A00001" I guess I need to label this tape as "131109" in order to follow the 2 step import process? I have checked the thread below but not sure i follow: http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1522130 And advice? I'm running version 6.0MP4 on Win Server 2003 by the way!

I am testing my recovery procedures for disaster recovery and not able to get a successful recovery. My server is windows server 2008 enterprise with exchange 2007 it has the roles of DNS DHCP is the PDC. I have followed the instructions in the link http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/309696.htm they seem to be specific to server 2003 or server 2000. Is there a different procedure I should follow for recovering a server 2008 domain controller. I am recovering to new hardware that is identical to the one from the backup. Backup exec is installed on the hardware I am recovering to not a remote restore. Anyone have any advice?

Hello, I have a BKF file which is being produced by NTbackup on system A on an isolated network. I'm manually moving that file - via a USB stick - to system B, where I need to restore all its contents. How can I use BExec 12.5 to automatically restore the BKF file using a script please? I'll have to repeat this operation every day and on several systems, so it's not feasible to do it manually. In case you're wondering, it's part of a migration which will take several months. Hope someone can help! Thanks, - Alan.

I am restoring user folders/files from a full backup.  I want to then restore data in those folders/files from subsequent differential backups.  When restoring, should the "Preserve Tree" be selected?  Thanks.
