I'm currently creating a webform and have certain options display when clicking certain checkboxes.  Each option is under a different section of the form.  The issue is when I created the form, the objects were laid out in a way where you would need to scroll down the whole form to see all the options.  What happens is if you click box to display some options they still appear all the way down the form and don't slide up where the user can see them.  Is there a way to make the objects that become visible once checking a box appear towards the top fo the page, rather than where they were laid out in design view?  Or is this not possible with Workflow 6.5. I know this may sound confusing...so I know there might be questions!   Tom

Hello, I'm an ESM beginner and I quickly found how to make it work and how to use it. But now I'd like to customize it by creating customized templates and policies (for Windows, AIX and/or Solaris checks). Symantec documentation only says :   - double-click the template to open the Template Editor,   - specify row information, including any sublist information that is needed,   - click Save and then click Close. Unfortunately, no documentation to explain "row information, including any sublist information that is needed". So, I can't succeed in creating a simple template that verify if a file exists (with Green report if it does, and Red report if not). So, I don't specifically need a solution for that example, but I need documentation on modules, templates, checks, or (better) course support. Thanks for your answers.

We have Altiris CMS 6.x and Helpdesk 6.x installed in a 1200-node environment, but due to a lack of planning at the time, it's barely implemented.  (Despite owning so many solutions, we only use Helpdesk 6.x, have a few small application RIPs, and hardware-specific images sent via USB RDeploy.)  We're looking at doing Altiris right with a migration to Altiris CMS 7 and Service Desk 7, and finally using all the solutions.  I've read the Altiris 7 Planning and Implementation Guide.  I plan on reading some other documents (more or less at random) and wonder about the benefit of an Altiris eLearning license or some instructor-led training courses. My question is, "What training methods have you tried, and which were most successful?  Least successful?"  I am not particularly interested if you've never gone to instructor-led training, but wish you could.  Rather, I'm interested in what training methods you've used and how...

Hello Workflow-ers, We're preparing to head down the road to goodness that is Workflow, and are looking at getting training before we implement (what a crazy thought huh?).  I was wondering if any of you had been through the Symantec Workflow training (either classroom, onsite, or even the web training) and if so, could you share your thoughts?  Did you attend WF6 or WF7 training?  Is it so easy that we don't even need training (I doubt it!)? Thanks for your time.

I have users that need to be able to make modifications to their existing comments.  My help desk has the pencil (edit comment) on their screen but some of my workers outside the help desk have a stripped down version (non-administrator) and would like to have that edit comment function available.  Where can I make this change?  I found under Security Role Management, a check box for edit incident but that doesn't appear to be the issue.  My workers can edit incidents by adding new comments but they cannot edit previous comments.  Please help.  Thanks.

I am working with Ghost Solutions Sute 2.x. Trying to image a client system automatically throught the Ghost Console using a TASK. Client is Windows XP SP3 - Server is on Win2K3 with XP2 Clients onboard NIC is a Marvell Yukon Gigabit (supports PXE)  - and the client has an additional 4 port Adaptec PCI NIC installed (Does Not Support PXE). I am tring to execute a task to creat an image of a model client machine, however it failes to do so. I can manually boot to a Ghost Cd and creat an image, but cannot do it through the Ghost Console like i want it to.  Heres what i have done, and the results i get.. 1. Using the Ghost console i have setup a task to create an image. 2. Execute the task - the task log on the bottom of the console stays task has started 3. After about 30-60 seconds the task ends with a status of "FAILED" 4. Double clicking the task brings up the Event log. The event log says step 1 "Updating PreOS Files" completed successfuly...

Hi All, I'm trying to create a custom collection that only includes the computer name, the computer type (which I only want laptops), and is in a specific OU.  It seems simple enough, and my query works PERFECT in SQL Query Analyzer, but when I plug it into the Custom SQL in Altiris, it returns every record of everything, i.e. software, user names, computer names, everything! Here is the query: SELECT      Inv_OU_Membership.[Distinguished Name], Inv_AeX_HW_Serial_Number.[Computer Type], Inv_AeX_AC_Identification.[Name],  Inv_AeX_AC_Identification.[_ResourceGuid] From Inv_AeX_AC_Identification         left join Inv_AeX_HW_Serial_Number      on Inv_AeX_AC_Identification.[_ResourceGuid]=Inv_AeX_HW_Serial_Number.[_ResourceGuid]    left join Inv_OU_Membership    on Inv_AeX_AC_Identification.[_ResourceGuid]=Inv_OU_Membership.[_ResourceGuid]  ...

Software Workspace Virtualization 6.1 Service Pack 1 brings one new feature, Partial Activate, a change to an existing feature, Patch, and an overhaul to where information regarding where information is stored in the registry for a layer. This article will cover everything, including detecting the SWV version, except Partial Activate which will need it's own article due to the complexity of the feature. Changes to the FSL2 Class ManagedSVS.cs has several new methods added. You can download the newest version of the FSL2 Class from the download portal. Detecting Version I covered extensively how to detect what version of SWV or SVS that was installed in Part One of the SWV 6.1 SDK Guide, you can use the function GetDriverVersion to determine what the behavior of a specific API is, in the case of patch, or if an API is available or not. For SP1 this is very simple, anything post build 6.1.5000 is SP1, so you just need to check that version1 is 6, version2 is 1 and version3 is greater...

The last set of new features to Software Virtual Solution 6.1 is Layer Visibility, which is called Layer Isolation by some, and Dependent Layers-layers that are required by other layers to work. Both of these two features work together in that a layer set to be hidden from all other layers will still be visible to the dependent layer, likewise a layer that's flagged to not be able to see any other layers will be able to see it's dependent layers. Changes to the FSL2 Class ManagedSVS.cs has several new methods added. SVSConst.cs has had some new flags added. You can download the newest version of the FSL2 Class from the download portal. Layer Visibility In SWV 6.1 there are three visibility flags, or rules, that can be set that effetely hide the layer from something or something from the layer, these flags can also be combined to allow for less visibility. The three flags are: Hide Other Layers (LAYER_VIS_FLAG_HIDE_OTHER_LAYERS) Hide From Other Layers (LAYER_VIS_FLAG_HIDE_FROM_OTHERS...

With the launch of the new Service Desk 7 product imminent, the existing Altiris Service Desk community will be waiting to get their hands on this all new capability. Allowing for the first time within a Symantec Framework true ITIL process driving best pract efficiencies through a customisable interface. However once launched, the word on the street from within Symantec is that the only training that will be made available will be a course on the online training portal. With a product that has a simpler outlook, for example SEP this would be a workable solution, but surely with a complex product like SD7 which has technical support, administration and customised end user requirements I'm not convinced that will be enough. I have my views on the scop and structure but what do you guys in the wider community think??

Hello.  We just started trying to use DS to manage PXE servers so we could image PCs with Altiris.  The LEFAUST server didn't get a good installation and DS is continually trying to copy/replicate data to it.  I went to that server's console and stopped the services and performed an add/remove programs to get rid of the Altiris PXE software.  On the status page of the PXE Configuration window, it still is trying to send data to that system.  How do I get the DS server to drop that remote server off it's list of managed PXE servers?

#4 down! 26 more to go. This is getting fun actually. This script will query an NS using the ExecuteDatabaseQuery method and grab every subnet known to Inventory Solution. It then takes each subnet and creates a dynamic collection on the server under a folder you specify. This is using the CreateCollection method. Note, the subnets are coming from inventory data, not from defined subnets. It can be adapted easily for creating collections based on defined subnets. Either way, It's a good way to keep your NS resources clean and organized.

We are in the process of getting EMS for our Wise Package Studio 7 sp3. We were wondering if anyone had some documentation on guidelines for configuring the Software Manager/Software Repository/Package Distribution. Or if anyone had any documentation on this they would be willing to share. Any and all help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Kevin

Parts 2 and 3 of the SWV 6.1 SDK Guide covered the new layer management functions introduced in SWV 6.1. In this article I'm going to be covering the API that affect processes running from within a layer, namely Auto Run from Layer and Deactivate on Last Process Exit. These two features have a great synergy and really expand on what you can do with application virtualization and how your end users interact with applications. Changes to the FSL2 Class ManagedSVS.cs has several new methods added. You can download the newest version of the FSL2 Class from the download portal. Auto Run from Layer This new features is really an extension of an old SVS feature Run from Layer (also known as Execute from Layer or exec) which runs an application that is not virtualized as if it was. For example, if you exec notepad from a layer the changes you make to any text files will get caught in that layer. Auto Run from Layer takes that concept one step further buy attaching certain processes to a layer...

In the previous article I talked about Patching, which is the first half of the new Layer Management features of SWV, for Part 3 I'm finishing off Layer Management functions with Duplicating Layers and Sub-Layer Merging. At first glance you may not recognize these features because the API are named differently from what the feature name is. In SVSadmin or SVScmd Duplicate layer is named Clone Layer and Sub-layer Merging is named "New Reset Point". As with the Patch article I'll briefly cover what the new feature can be used for so you have an idea of how to use the API. FunctionNameA vs. FunctionNameW If you have the SDK help file, which can be installed via the SWV installer (run a repair and add features if you haven't done this), you'll notices that several of the new API are listed twice with either an 'A' or a 'W' after them. This is to designate if the function is in Ansi (A) or Unicode (W) which is something that shouldn't be new to you if you're a C++ developer on...

In Part 1 of the SWV 6.1 SDK Guide I covered how to use the same API for SVS and SWV and SVS functions that changed for SWV. Now with Part 2 I'll be talking about the first half of the new Layer Management API in SWV - Layer Patching to be more specific. Note that while I'll be briefly discussing these new features I won't be going into detail on how they can be used, which is better left for a different article. Instead I'll be giving enough info about the new feature so you can understand the API itself. FunctionNameA vs. FunctionNameW If you have the SDK help file, which can be installed via the SWV installer (run a repair and add features if you haven't done this), you'll notices that several of the new API are listed twice with either an 'A' or a 'W' after them. This is to designate if the function is in Ansi (A) or Unicode (W) which is something that shouldn't be new to you if you're a C++ developer on Windows. For the FSL2 Class I'll only be using the Ansi version for several...
