I was offered a free download of Symantec through my graduate program, and downloaded it onto my boyfriend's HP laptop since I have a Mac and no security issues. He has not been able to connect to the internet since. I have tried every method of troubleshooting I can think of, but I'm just not that PC-savvy. Unfortunately neither the guy at Radioshack (where he bought the computer) nor HP tech support can figure out the problem. Both are blaming it on symantec, so I uninstalled it for him. He still can't get online. I've turned his firewall off, that did nothing, I turned it back on that did nothing. I've restarted the computer after each attempt to change whatever settings, but to no avail. The most frustrating thing is that he is connected to our wireless network and the connection is strong with all bars- he just can't get the browser to connect to the internet. The guy at RS told him to re-install his browser- but how? He...

Ok, I have ran into an issue with SEP on my personal desktop. It had apparently stopped updating definitions, so before realizing the communication error tried to uninstall and reinstall. Well that obviously did not work out as well as I thought it would. As I uninstalled and then tried to reinstall it, it kept saying had to complete other updates/installs before could complete installation. OK after getting nowhere with the numerous reboots tried again but install froze. So resorted to try a system restore and still no solution because now it show s it as installed but not working, so tried a repair. Now it gives me an warning saying that "It appears that the Symantec Management Client service is not running. You will not be able to manage network protection settings through the main user interface until it is running. Do you want to start the service now?" Well obviously yes. Ok and now iI get another...

Good afternoon,
I recently uninstalled a Symantec antivirus client on a computer that is a hand-me-down from a friend, running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. After uninstalling the program, I now have multiple blank popup windows that occur infrequently - there is no information inside and the taskbar shows a completely blank icon except for the Symantec logo. Multiple reboots have been unsuccessful in remedying the problem. The program is also still listed in the Programs option in Control Panel. I don't have any of the original install discs so I can't reinstall/remove it again to see if that corrects any issues.
Any advice from anyone who has dealt with similar issues? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.
Best,
Jake

Hello All,
We haven't updated our symantec in awhile so we were wanting to uninstall and get a clean install again.
Does anyone have any notes on how to uninstall this product?
I believe it's v3.0?

Hi.
Looking for a way to remove SAV 10.X from the Windows Security Center. We use the Symantec cleanwipe to remove SAV, but the Windows Security Center still reports SAV as installed. When we install the new AV app, then Windows Security Center reports two AV programs are installed - what a mess!
Anyone have a command line tool or way to unregister SAV from WSC - without deleting the windows32\wbem\repository folder?
Thanks
Chris

I have Windows XP.
I have removed many components of the Norton Internet Security from Add/Remove programs. I have also removed all the Yahoo internet components which the online security was originally for. This is all due to its expiration. So I am downloading a different security system and when it gets to the final part of the download, it says there are conflicting programs (Norton Internet Security 2007, Virus Scan and Firewall). But when I try to remove the only other applicable program on add/remove (Symantec Live Update), It does not allow it because it says other programs still use it. So I am stumped as to how to remove it and install this new one.

Hi all,
Here is the scenario, I am using Symantec Anti virus Corporate Edition 10.1.7000. I was using the SMS to manage all clients. (Not a large environment no more then 20 clients.) But now I am having a problem, I have uninstalled the SMC on the server and uninstalled the server itself without taking the clients off the SMC or without giving them sufficient privileges or unlock the options for client administration. Now I can’t uninstall any of the clients.
I did back up the PKI but some home it’s corrupted and it doesn’t work when I try to re-establish the server- client’s relationship.
Any help would be much appreciated

Ok, So i tried to Uninstall my Symantec AntiVirus program (Which i Got from a University) from MY vista PC. I attemped to use the normal Add/Remove Programs way but was then prompted to enter an uninstall password. Because I didn't know what the Password was, I used the symantec website to take me step by step to remove it manually. I was told that i had to uncheck the "Enable Tamper Protection" Box but I can't because a Lock by the Administrator has been set. Now what has made me really confused is that I HAVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS OF THE COMPUTER but yet i'm unable to ucheck this darn box. Is there a piece of information I'm missing? Does Local Admin Rights mean something different than "the adminstrator of the computer"? Is there a Master Password that would enable me to follow the Add/Remove Programs way of unistalling it?
Can someone please help me?
----- I tried calling Techinical Support with the hope of being helped, I was told...

Hello all,
I've been trying for days, with no avail, to get rid of the koobface virus on my computer. I've run symantec several times, somtimes it comes up clean sometimes it finds the bugs but never has it found what keeps downloading it back onto my computer.
I've run symantec several times. Sometimes it finds the virus and its other processes and sometimes it doesn't. I thought i got rid of everything on my computer when i shut it down a few days ago but when i started it up this morning it was back. I've once again run symantec and deleted everything i could but i think my anti virus is missing something. I believe there is a file on my computer that goes undetected and keeps re-downloading this virus. Can someone please help? Idk what to do anymore :(

I am putting together a CD that is being distributed to field laptops in my company that is updating the laptops to XP SP3 and installing a managed endpoint security (not Symantec). Currently most of the laptops have Symantec trial ware installed and I need to silently remove it as part of the update. Asking the users to uninstall it is not an option - these laptops are designed to be used by people with little to no computer skills. Having them do the uninstall would end up flooding us with laptops needing to be re-imaged (what we are trying to avoid in the first place).
Is there a tool that is available that will allow me to distribute it on a CD to our laptops and fully remove the Symantec trial products, without any user interaction?
Thanks in advance for any help.

hello team,
i have problem in uninstalling my SEP client.
Why i uninstalled it? because it *always* gave me a "Program Busy" window everytime i execute a scan on my client computer.
Yesterday, i uninstalled it by Add/Remove program, running CleanWipe, and manual uninstallation.
After restarting, i still received a balloon on Windows Security Center, stating that my SEP is turned OFF but on the firewall section, it state that SEP firewall is ON.
My question is how can i make Windows Security Center display the right information? stating that "No AV installed" and "No Firewall installed" because i switched OFF the M$ firewall and changed it with SEP firewall. Or is there any other way of uninstallation that i haven't try ?
My client is running Win XP Pro.
Please help me with this issue....
-BP-
PS:
* There are a lot of Symantec key in regedit
* Using AutoRuns software from M$, i noticed that there is a driver named "symlcbrd.sys" in system32...

I do not know if I am even in the right Forum.
I am trying to uninstall Symantec AntiVirus which was installed on my son's computer by the college from which he graduated. It is on a XP Pro system. I am only familiar with Norton AntiVirus. I tried A/R Programs but it hung and I had to terminate the uninstall. It no longer appears in the A/R list. He can no longer sign into the University web site. Will the program which removes all Symantec Programs and is designed for the Norton uninstall work? Or is there a specific tool to remove Symantec Antivirus? Where do I get it?
Thanks.

All,
We have a single AD domain with about 500+ users. I am trying to acquire a RIP of MS Office 2007 (VolLic/Pro Plus)... as the RIP for Office 2003 was really successful. That said, I can capture the RIP and install the application and use it just fine. HOWEVER,<insert drum roll>, I CANNOT UNINSTALL THE Office 2007 (VolLic/Pro Plus) application.
Can anyone anywhere provide any information on how to resolve this issue?
Thank you for you time, in advanced,
Naerwen

Good Afternoon. I was hoping someone could tell what the uninstall GUID is for some versions of PCAnywhere Host Only. What I need to do is uninstall any previous versions of PCA (We install the Host only), and install the latest version. However, this is going to be an automated install, and I have to remove any pervious versions first.
The versions I need to know the GUID for are: 7, 9.2, 10.5, 11, 11.5, and 12.1.
What I'm going to do is call MSIEXEC.exe /x {GUID} /qn. For each product. So in this case I will have 6 command lines that run to catch any version that might be installed. Then have the newest product run. If anyone has a better solution I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm looking for guidance on the best way to completely remove version 10.x of SAV Corporate Edition from a Windows Server 2003 server and Windows XP and possibly Vista. Is the best way simply using Add/Remove on the server and client PC's, or is removing the product manually a cleaner way that will truly get rid of all traces of the program?

Hi,
I would like implement EndPoint 11.0 MR4 for about 100 clients. I already did it for the servers (about 15).
The problem is the users have admin permissions in their PCs and they all have their own antivirus. I would like deploy EndPoint but I need uninstall the older one before.
How can I detect it and uninstall just before the Endpoint install ?
Most users are in XP or Vista environnment.
Thanks
Regards,
Tristan

I need to know if there is a way to uninstall SEP from multiple computers on my network.
(remotely if possible, without using add/remove programs on each computer)
I was suprised that I could not find an easy and intuitive way to do it in SEPM.
Thanks!
