We currently upgraded from backup exec 11d to backup exec 12.5 sp3. Applied all patches updates, etc and pushed out the latest remote backup agent to all servers being backed up, another words, we thought everything was the same except the version, same backup jobs, same files to be backed up, but... we noticed a signaficantly reduced backup speed to tape to complete the 2 night jobs we run.  My HP LTO2 drive was getting 750-800 mb/min and my HP LTO3 drive was getting 1100-1150 mb/min for their respective jobs. After the upgrade, my LTO2 is getting 550-575 mb/min and my LTO3 is getting 850-875 mb/min.?? I saw a similar post about upgrading the drivers for the tape drives to symantec drivers, so we did that with no affect on the speed. I've heard 12.5 sp3 is faster than 11d, not slower, everything else is EXACTLY the same, we're lost on this one. media server is also the domain controller - windows 2003 32bit server R2, backup up windows 32 bit and 64 bit R2 servers? We are...

Hello, I am considering upgrading from our current MR4 installation to RU5 soon and was wondering if there are any consistant issues I should be aware of.  I did a quick search of the forum and found several people had issues, but I am more interested in things that everyone has been experiencing either during the upgrade process or as a result of the upgrade process.  I am hesitant to upgrade as SEP as we have it is the most stable is has been since we switched and I would rather not introduce new problems into the enviroment.  Supposedly there are some fixes in the previous MP updates as well as RU5 that should fix the remaining issues we have been experiencing with the product. I am eager to get feedback from the members. Thanks.

I recognized something strange, which has been quite confusing for some of our customers. Actually the current version von Endpoint Protection (11 RU5) is published with two different version numbers. The packages, you receive through LiveUpdate are listed as 11.0.5002.0 in the Endpoint Protection Manager, but packages you create from other sources, e.g. downloads from Symantec’s fileconnect , are listed as 11.0.5002.333.   This fact makes it possible to import both versions into the Manager, if you received the packages through LiveUpdate onto your MR4 system and then upgrade it to RU5. After that you will see that four packages with the mentioned two different version numbers get listed under “install packages”. Now, if you install the package with number 11.0.5002.0 onto a client, it gets actually also listed as installed version 11.0.5002.333. So the whole issue is just wrong information in the Manager, which the software cannot handle.   The problem is...

After updating from 6.5.3 to 6.5.4 I was suprised to see an additional robotic library show up in my topology display.  A while back we had added LTO4 drives to our tape library and partioned it into two libraries one for the existing drives and one for the new LTO4 drives and media.  When configuring NetBackup and scanning for devices it saw the two partions as two entirely new libraries, created new devices and storage groups.  The former TLD(2) library was still listed as a robot under Devices but was shaded out and indicated it the robotic path was missing and no longer showed up on the topology.  I updated the policies and duplication staging away from using that old library (was switching most of them over to the new LTO4 partion anyway). I didn't think much about it again until the other day I upgrade to 6.5.4 it suddenly there was TLD(2) appearing on my Topology screen in the console.  Just the icons...

Many users of Backup Exec are annoyed by the recommendation to apply all hotfixes made to the server also to the remote agent. I think this is quite understandable, because in daily business it is in most cases simply not easy to do it because of other, higher priority topics. With this short piece of text I would like to change your point of view. Please consider the following facts: 1. Many problems of backups with BE result out of a mismatch of server and RAWS. 2. Hotfixes are hotfixes, because they fix important issues. 3. If you have to call tech support, they will definitely check the version of server and RAWS and in case they do not match advise you to update. 4. This is really important: If you are waiting too long, the number of updates that have to be applied increase that much that a push update will no longer be possible. The last point is really important. My investigations showed that somewhere between 8 (result of tech support) and 10 (my result) updates...

Hi, We are trying to use CompetitiveUninstallWrapper to uninstall McAfee Framework Agent, Alert Manager and Virusscan Enterprise 8.5 and then install SEP. Unfortunately only the first of the uninstall scripts runs in spite of all three scripts we specified in ManualScriptList.txt as specified in the manual. We use the CompetitiveUninstallWrapper from the 11.0.5002.333 CD. Does anybody have a solution on how to get all scripts to run?

Should I be running a self-managed version of SEP on the SEP manager server, or have I done something wrong? I've just upgraded my SEP manager to RU5 and that worked fine, but the SEP on the server is saying it's self-managed and only at MR3. How do I upgrade this, or should I? I seem to remember reading somewhere that I didn't have to bother as it was linked to the management console, but that may have been a day-dream... Any help greatly appreciated Gill

I am running Netbackup DLO 6.1 MP4 and I am getting false alerts. If I respond "OK" to any or all alerts and delete them from the alert history, they reappear in the alerts. When I check a client in the "History" tab to verify a client has not backed up in "X" days I find the alert is false. This started after upgrading from MP3 to MP4. Anyone else have this issue or any suggestions?

I am trying to find some information on SAV Corporate 9.0. Is it true that this version is no longer receiving virus defintion updates?  It appears that it is, but I have seen conflicting comments on this matter. Also, what type of protection is offered by SAV Corporate 9.0?  Does is just protect against viruses or does it offer protection for other types of malware, such as spyware, phishing, etc?

Hi I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period. I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands.  But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get. Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/".  But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information. Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know. Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further. PVR

I am having an issue upgrading my SEPM server to the current version.  I think I followed all the instructions.  I turned off the replication (wwe weren't using any).  I stopped the SEPM service and closed the Services window before running the install program.  The install SEEMED to go all right but now the SEPM service will not start.  I keep getting an error when I try to manual start the service. "Could not start the Symantec Endpoint Proctection Manager service on Local Computer.  Error 1067:  The process terminated unexpectedly."  I have tried running the install program again.  No luck there.  I tried the Upgrade.bat file in the BIN directory.  That didn't seem to do anything.  I am running this on a Windows 2003 Server that has been virtualized and was running an earlier version of SEPM just fine.  Any Ideas as to what is going on?

Hello, This is more of a feature request, but I was wondering if anyone else out there had a desire to do this, or had a suggestion/work around that might work just as well. I would like to see the ability to creat symbolic links to jobs. The idea being that there is one group, lets call it "Software", that has all my software install jobs within it. I then want to be able to create a second group called "Accounting" and have the ability to link all the software that Accounting needs to that group. Then create a thrid group called "Research" and then again link all the software that Research needs to that group. I could then just drag a computer from account to that group, and it would run the necessary jobs for that computer. I know there is the ability to create a job and then once that job completes, have it schedule and run another job, however, this does not help should I create a job called "Installer 2.1"...

After I upgraded the Ghost Console to 11.5, all of the connected clients showed the exclamation point icon showing that the client software was out of date. When I try to execute a task, the task first tried to update the client, the 'client upgrade' completes successfully, but the 'run product upgrade' command fails. I can not unistall the clients, it gives an error  (73): Installation: Msiexec failed with error: 1603. And I can not remote install the client, it gives the error   (40): Ghost installed: There already is version of Ghost installed on this computer: Any ideas on how to fix this issue? The ideal fix would be to get the first method to work to allow the upgrade to install and run correctly automatically. It isn't completely out of the question to touch all the clients, but I would like to avoid that at all costs because there are a hundred or so of them. Thank you for your help! -Josh

Hi I am currently busy with a DRP exercise and is restoring 2 backup jobs from a LTO1  tape. I am using backup Exec 10d. When I catalog the tape, only my second job is catalogued 113gig. My exchange information store, 30gig backup job shows 0 bytes. According to backup exec on my live server both backup jobs ran successful. The first backup job is set to overwrite and the second job is set to append only. Please assist Thanks Ivan

Hi Guys, Recently upgraded backup Exec to 12.5 Sp2 and all available hot fixes out of a requirment to support Windows Server 2008 R2. Since doing this I have noticed that the backups of a Win 2008 R2 server appear to be different to those of Win 2003 and even non R2 2008 servers, under "restore" the backups appear as Snapshots? This might be new behaviour for the way R2 works because I can't see a perticular "snapshot" option? all I know is that the icon next to the available backups is that of a cammera and not a folder like all the other server backups but the version can be expanded the same way and individual files restored etc. Now the R2 server in question is a VM running on Hyper-V, is Backup Exec somehow aware of this even though it is backing it up via a local agent on the VM? are snapshots really any different in behaviour? What is also interesting is that the snapshots are only for the daily differentials that I run, the full backup from the...

Hi I hope I'm missing something really simple. I have upgraded to SP3. Vault Cache is available for users. Make Virtual Vault available to users is ticked. Users are not getting the Virtual Vault tab in Vault Cache properties. I experimented with one user, manually entering the VVEnabled registry entry and the Virtual Vault Tab appeared, but that user still isn't given all the other settings (such as permissions to delete items). If however I check the 'Tech Info' (help-about), VV_AllowHardDelete is set to true. Hope someone can help Nick
