EV 8.0 SP3 has landed
We’re pleased to announce that EV 8.0 SP3 was released on November 4th and can now be downloaded from FileConnect; the release documents are attached to this post.
In summary the key new functionality is:
1) Virtual Vault – manage your archive as if it’s a PST. This now means your users can stay within the Outlook pane and browse their archive in a quick & familiar manner. This is a much anticipated feature which has undergone extensive testing both in house & with many beta customers. We are very excited about this new feature and believe it now offers the user a truly transparent UI experience, I can’t do justice to this feature in a quick post like this one so expect further follow up in the next week or so.
2) SharePoint – some significant enhancements to the user experience & archiving capability

Hello,
Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager needs to have more Functionality and Features in regards to Group Update Provider.
Today, Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager RU5 have added good Functionality.
Check the Following KB's
1) New features and functionality in Symantec Endpoint Protection Release Update 5 (SEP RU 5) Group Update Provider (GUP)
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/74cab076e9ab68f64925763f005a2237?OpenDocument
2) Configuring the Group Update Provider (GUP) in Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU5
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/cb487ea7138bf8d24925763f00708be0?OpenDocument
But even today, we are don't have much to check on How to handle the GUP's from SEPM other than visiting the Groups Liveupdate Policy.
Suggestions:
1) Customers do not have a way to create a Log for GUP seperately.
We are looking forward for a Seperate...

NEW in 6.5.4 the RMAN parent job seems to maintain ownership of the child job tapes, so that your jobs reuse the same tapes and don't unload them between jobs.
This process bypasses priority, so even if another job - like a restore or duplication is waiting for that tape, the child backup maintains ownership.
This is a time saver if you write directly to tape.
If you write to a VTL and then want to duplicate the tape via SLP, it causes much troubles.
Does any one know how to turn this "feature" off?

Gluttony: Migrating more than you need to by not cleaning things up first
Organizations often use an OS migration as a time to evaluate the applications, software and other data files they have on the organization’s existing endpoints. They can also use this time to plan their go-forward imaging standards. Those organizations that don’t go through this evaluation and planning process may be migrating more than is necessary (gluttony) once they begin the migration process.
One of the first critical decisions will be determining the specific deployment standards and processes to be used during the migration and, optimally, on a go-forward basis. This could be a considerable undertaking depending on the organization and their existing processes. For example, some IT departments may manage 30+ images that quickly become a logistical nightmare, draining time and resources away from other, more critical issues. However that same company may only need five images to accomplish...

I have one workstation that somehow managed to upgrade to SEP MR4 while also not uninstalling SAV 10 in the process. So essentially I had both versions running alongside eachother. I managed to eventually uninstall SAV 10, and I also reinstalled SEP MR 4 just to be safe.
The problem I'm having is when I click on "Find unmanaged computers" within my console. This workstation is still showing up as an unmanaged SAV 10 computer. Even though SEP is successfully installed and reporting. I figured there is something I still need to rip out on this system because of a unsuccessful uninstall. Anyone have any ideas to fix this issue?

I am not sure if the solution suite will allow me to do this or not. Wat I need is a way that I can blast out all my updated software from my server console. For example I have created a custom screen saver, and it has a .exe installer is there a way I can tell it by creating a task to install this .exe into all machines?

The situation is this:
We have One site - Two Management servers (one in each city we operate - two cities) - SQL Server 2005 for DB in city1.
I have divided the computers to three groups per city group (city1-group1,group2,group3 - city2-group1,group2,group3) with each city having a different Managed Server prefer list and each group having diferent installation options and policys (for example group1 that is used for clients has av+zero day threat protection installed but not group2 which is intended for servers that does not have zero day threat protection and group 3 has the firewall and application-device control-network threat protection installed and in use)
What I am planning:
Upgrade the servers to RU5 ( i know the procedure)
Upgrade all clients to RU5 (still looking how to do it)
Change the installation options (of the upgrade) for the clients in order to include apllication-device control-network threat protection BUT with these options...

This script will check the character set of an Oracle database to ensure that it is compatible with Symantec DLP 10.
To run it, you must be able to log in to SqlPlus as the DLP Oracle user, traditionally named "protect".
1. Extract the three script files from the archive, leaving them together in one directory.
2. Open a command line window and change directory to the directory containing the scripts.
3. Launch SqlPlus and log in as the DLP Oracle user.
4. Type: @checkcharset_DLP_10.sql
The script will display on the screen the name of your character set, and a message confirming whether or not it is compatible.

LUST: Lusting after the latest version before figuring out what makes sense for your organization
Before organizations can successfully migrate to Windows 7, they need to know what is in front of them and then formulate the right game plan. While most businesses will benefit from upgrading, lust for the latest version can be like merging into the fast lane without checking your blind spot. If a company’s focus is solely making the switch as soon as possible, it might not take necessary precautions to minimize the time and adjustment for end users.
More importantly, a Windows migration project is not just driving a refresh of the operating system, it can also drive key decisions that will likely impact IT organizations for years to come. Organizations should take advantage of the planning time to re-evaluate hardware vendors, software vendors, security strategies and long term management strategies.
To get started you need to launch the migration project. This planning...
