I'm having trouble understanding the relationship of some of the tables in Symantec_CMDB created by NS7.
Can you describe how ResourceAssociation and ResourceTypeHierarchy fit into the bigger picture?
I'm specifically looking at it from a Patch Management perspective and trying to understand the chain of relationships from a particular Bulletin, to a specific update, the inventory rules associated, etc.
Thanks,
Mitch

Hi!
I use BackupExec 12.5 with all/latest Updates on Windows Server 2003 with all/latest Updates.
In recent times i get mails from the backup server with the following message(s):
"Der Wechselmediendienst kann die Bibliothek Tape0 nicht verwalten. Die Datenbank ist beschädigt." and
"Der Wechselmediendienst kann die Bibliothek Tape1 nicht verwalten. Die Datenbank ist beschädigt."
Free translated: The changer-service can not manage library tape0/1. The database is corrupt/damaged/broken.
Could anyone tell me more about the message/about the mentioned libraries?
Thanky you with the best greetings!!

Hello!
We need to move our Backupexec 12.5 Database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.
The sql server are in different domains with domain trust.
We tried to use BEUtility but i always stop with error message
error Access to remote registry key (i had to translate it from german to englisch / German message is Der Zugriff auf die Registrierungsschlüssel des ausgewählen Server .....)
see attachment
I think i know what the problem is
We installed backupexec with access to SQL with user sa but on the new sql the sa user has a different password.
so i think backupexec has simple no access to the new sql server but how can i change the SA password on Backupexec 12.5
In 10 there was a option to change this but i cann´t find it in 12.5
Any idea what i can do?

Dear reader,
I have backup exec 12.5 and the jobs I am working with are sceduled to rund outside office hours (after 17:00 until 6:59 the next day) but some of the jobs seem to be run more than once during the night. I have read somewhere that I need to clear or clean the job queue but I have not seen any info on how to do this.
I have also had some instances of jobs being marked as recovered. The nights the recovered jobs appeared the backup server engine crashed.
So if anybody knows how to clear the job queue or has any other ideas about thow to go about this please let me know.
Best regards,
Agust.

All,
We have Netbackup for our db2 backups. The backups are running fine without any issues but I cannot find db2.conf file in /usr/openv/netbackup directory. Is it possible to have backups without db2.conf file by just having the policy name from Netbackup admin?
Netbackup - NetBackup-AIX5 6.5.3
OS - AIX 5.3.0.0
Database : DB2 8.2 FixPak '16'
We run the backups from cron using below command :
DB2_POLICY=AIX_PRODDB_FULL
export DB2_POLICY
db2 "backup db PRODDB online load '/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/nbdb2.sl64' open 6 sessions with 10 buffers buffer 16384 parallelism 6 include logs WITHOUT PROMPTING"
Thanks
-Sam.

Hello All,
Running Netbakcup 6.5.3.1 Environment and have couple of questions:
1) Currently I have a media server with large ATL attached to it, the target is to swap this large ATL with smaller one to save some DC space. For the reason of swapping I'll need to have both ATLs connected and hosted by same media server, any issues I can have with this from Netbackup point of view ?
2) Moving media from one ATL to another, any procedure available or it is as simple as ejecting the media from one ATL and inserting it to another(with updating the Volume groups and ATL inventory of course). ?
Thanks in advance, Pavel.

I'm looking to build either a collection or report on what computers have less than 2GB of RAM installed. After running some default reports and building collections that I would think would work I seem to get a discrepancy in my numbers. Do you guys have any best practices or sample reports to get these numbers correct?

It is now possible to use the EnterpriseVaultDirectory, through EV Dashboard to give you Mailbox Aliases and Exchange Legacy DNs. I forget which third party tool uses these, however this should be useful to have at hand.
EV Dashboard – Uploaded and available for download from www.evdiscuss.net/download
I have uploaded version 0.13 of EV Dashboard. Below you can see the home page as I see it which has a few added elements now to show if any EV related Windows services are down, if any MSMQ have a count larger than 0, if there are any failed indexes, and also a summary of the watch file count. Checked every morning this new information should alert you to problems before your users do.
It is important to note the Recorded timestamp on the 'Service Alerts' and 'MSMQ Message Count Alerts' sections. Within the EV Dashboard package there is a vbscript called EVDashboard_Data_Collector.vbs. This script is intended to be scheduled by using...

I am running Netbackup DLO 6.1 MP4 and I am getting false alerts. If I respond "OK" to any or all alerts and delete them from the alert history, they reappear in the alerts. When I check a client in the "History" tab to verify a client has not backed up in "X" days I find the alert is false. This started after upgrading from MP3 to MP4. Anyone else have this issue or any suggestions?

Hi
I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period.
I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands. But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get.
Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/". But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information.
Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know.
Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further.

Hi there,
having a production environment with NBU 5.1 master and some
media servers we need to create a copy of this master on
another machine in a testing environment.
In this test environment the master will have the same name
as the original so no problems should arise. The testing
environment will not have any media servers - But i need the
catalog data from the original media servers in the new testing
System.
I cannot use the procedure for decommisioning a media server
with "bpmedia -movedb", because i'm not allowed to touch the
original system.
So here is my question: How can i merge the catalog from the one
master and these media servers to one master without touching the
original servers?
best regards Stefan

Hi,
Whats the best way to repair Service Desk 7
All the steps of my Installation worked perfectly up and until the last one, which is, Setup ServiceDesk.
It allowed me to skip, retry or move to 'next' step. I had to skip 'twice' before it was complete, but would like to go back and complete these steps.
Do i need to run setup from scratch? As in, from Altiris.ServiceDesk.2009.exe? Or from Add remove programmes?

Just curious as to how you all backup your Oracle DBs? We don't use Rman with NetBackup. Right now our DBs are broken up into 50gig chunks labeled oracle_a, oracle_b, and so on. The databases are growing and these size chunks were chosen by the DB admins and the previous NetBackup Admins for use with DLT drives. We are on LTO3 drives and will be movining to VTL next year. The DBs will be moved to our SAN in the coming weeks. My boss wants me to come up with some new method of backing up the DBs. The most simple he has stated is that he wants to explore larger chunk sizes for the oracle_a and so on.
I'm really interested in the ways all you guys/gals back up your DBs, so maybe I can gain some insight and explore a new better angle for our company.
Thanks.

I am having the dreaded snapshot processing issue that hangs for a long period of time. After I go to the SQL server that is being backed up there is a visual studio debugger pop up prompt. I hit No I do not want to debugg and then the back up continues to the next server. I have this happening on more than one SQL server. I have looked at the forums extensivily and it seems no one every finds a solutions to fix the the issue for Backupexec 12. I have used the BEutility to turn on logging for the server but the logs it spits out are massive and I don't know what I should be looking for. Also I have attached the log file. Any help would be great!
Thanks

I'm using Wise Installation Studio to install an application that uses a SQL Server database. I'd like the user to be able to create the database during the install or select an existing database to use if the database already exists. I modified the Database Dialog by adding a textbox for the database name. With that, I have been able to pass the information to a SQL script and successfully create a new database.
Problem:
If the user enters a database name, and it already exists on the server, the SQL scripts that run duing the installation return numerous errors. It would be really helpful to be able to handle it in the Database Dialog, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Questions:
1. If the user wants to install a new database and a database with the same named already exists on the server, how can I return a message to them that the database already exists and they need to enter a different name for the database they are going to create?

I had recently set up a power policy for shut down 4 computers in my network. This worked fine for a while but now it has started to spread to other computers that I do not want shut down. I have gone into the NS and deleted the power management job but the computers are still shutting down.
as a test I went and removed the Altiris Agent from the computers and this seemed to resolve the problem but the Agent has tobe on those computers for inventory and patch management. So I put the agent back on. The power is shutting off again even though no job exists. What can I do to resolve this problem.

Hello,
since two weeks we encounter big problems with our B2D-Backup:
We use a NAS from LACIE as B2D-System with several directories where each job stores its information in a directory. Everything worked fine before.
Now it happens that the media server is loading a bkf-file from the NAS or tries to determine the bkf-file for the NAS. Sometimes, independent from the backup job, this action fails with the error message that there are not enough ressources available.
After all several services begin to crash on the media server which is running on a SBS 2003:
First the error message with eventid 2020 is reported: The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty
Next the DNS is announcing that it has detected an error in Active Directory, after all the running Exchange also crashes.
This all happens only if Backup Exec 11 is running a B2D-job. Once in a month we backup to a LTO media, this jobs runs great without problems. The system is...

One of our servers that were being backed up by CPS blue screened and I rebuilt the server with the same name. Then added it to CPS so I could restore the data. Now I go into CPS and there is no data to restore. :-( I looked in the backup directory and the files are all still there but I know in the past that I can not just use these files, they have to be restored through CPS. Is there a way to recover/re-catalog these files into the database?
backup exec version is 10d (build 10.1.327.1001)
no backup has been done on the Databases so can not restore to a prior time :-(
thought about using the cpsDBValidate but not sure if it is going to bring the files in or if it is going to delete the files in the backup directory.
hints, thoughts, helpful comments welcomed.
thanks.

took me a while to figure that out.
