Hello We have recently started having problems backing up Linux Home areas on a Windows Server 2003 machine running Backup Exec 12.5 SP2. The following errors are: Backup- E: Directory E:\Shared.Folders\Home\xxxxx\ was not found, or could not be accessed. None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up. This had been working fine and nothing appears to have changed. I have checked folders and can access them ok and browse through them using the selection option in Backup Exec. I hope someone can help Many thanks

Should first point out that both the BUE server as well as the Oracle box are mutlihomed, but I've tested with the credentials that the RMAN listener can be connected to over the network segment that's being used for backup traffic, and I used a custom selection list to specifically point to the correct interface on the Oracle machine, so I'm not sure that there'd be a good reason for this to fail.  Failure occurs immediately. Here's the output from the RMAN script at the time of failure: Recovery Manager: Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production on Thu Nov 5 16:05:45 2009 Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.    # -----------------------------------------------------------------  # RMAN command section  # -----------------------------------------------------------------    RUN {  ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0      TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';  SEND 'BSA_SERVICE_HOST=172.16.4.102,NBBSA_TOTAL_STREAMS=1,NBBSA_JOB_COOKIE={...

Currently the NetBackup client check to see if ALL directories are mount points or not, regardless of this setting.  Each check is taking one to two seconds.  That doesn't seem like much, but when you have 25,000 mount points, it adds up REALLY fast. It would be nice, and much more efficient if the check to determine if a directory is a mount point is disabled if the Cross mount points option is enabled.  After all, if NetBackup is supposed to cross the mount point, how does it matter if it is one or not?

I was having problems about the backup window. so I build a script to help me this script returns the policy name and the average elapsed time in a period. for example: relatorio_elapsed.sh 24 it will return the policy name and the average of elapsed time per policy at last 24 hours. usefull to buid a graphic I hava put the result in a datasheet and made %% of time each backup consumes of the day. It really worked for me. Runs on LINUX / UNIX / SOLARIS U can show the var $media in the printf to show how many times does a policy ran at the period. Thanks

I have been at this now for a few days. Basicly I have migrated the media server to new hardware Details of this can be found here. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-migration-windows-2003-server-windows-2008-server Everything was fine apart from one Red Hat Linux box we have. I editied the ralus.cfg with VI to enter the IP address to point it to the new media server but that didnt work, I then uninstalled and reinstalled the ralus agent on the linux box, rebooted but that doesnt work either. Now when I look at the ralus.cfg I see that it is pointing to my new media server but get this, backups from my old media server works away even though there is no mention of this server in the ralus.cfg..... thats the weird part. This leads me to believe that there is some other step I need to do here to get this working. So what do I have to do to get this working? Is it a license issue? Ultan

I have a client that has a Windows-based network and a Linux web server that I want to suggest BE 12.5 to.  I have the licenses for the NFR BE 12.5 which includes the download of  BEWS_12.5.2213_LINUX-UNIX-MAC-SAP_AGENTS.tar.gz .  I have performed the decompression and extraction based on the documentation and am unable to execute a successful installation.  An error occurs because the system is trying to access the directory where the Perl software is supposed to be but it isn't there.  The Unix, Mac and SAP agent directories all include the appropriate Perl data but not the Linus. What should I do?  I do not have the BE 12.5 media.  Only the download files.

I've just done an install of NBU 6.5.4 as per the NetBackup High Availability Administrator's Guide on RHEL 5 and I've run into an issue regarding the NetBackup VCS Agent on the second node. I forgot that RHEL has iptables on by default and this caused some issues when I ran the cluster_config script. I disabled iptables and my NetBackup service group is up on the node I ran the cluster_config script on, but it can't be switched as the NetBackup VCS Agent is not installed or running. # haagent -display NetBackup #Agent       Attribute      Value NetBackup    AgentDirectory NetBackup    AgentFile NetBackup    Faults         0 NetBackup    Running        No NetBackup    Started        No # haagent -start NetBackup -sys sysname VCS NOTICE V-16-1-10001...

I've recently tested BESR 8.5.5 for SBS on my network as a trial product and am very happy with it and will be ordering a licensed copy from my Symantec distributor next week. One area I do want to research farther, as much for my clients as myself, is taking a image of a server and keeping it on a VM for disaster recovery. All the servers I maintain have manufacturers' warranty and should in theory be up and running within 4 to 6 hours - in practice I have had 2 IBM servers which were out of action for nearly two full days - both machines were on 24 x 7 x 4 contracts. So although BESR would save the network once the server is fixed, I am looking for a solution during the time the server is out of action suitable for small businesses of 5 to 25 users. Can I simply keep a regularly updated image of the server on a virtual server like VMWare Server 2.0 or ESXi 4.0 with vConverter ready to be used if the...

I have a BE on windows and the client runs on solaris 10. what i plan to do is do a full backup every weekend and an incremental every day of the week, I plan to back up to disk and move the entire backup to a tape and subsequent disk backup to the same tape till it gets full and it moves to another tape and continue.where i work we delete customers data after two month when we finish business with them  but i want to archive customers data so that when the come back we can produce their data (which usually happens). I have enough space on my disk and i use a quantum autoloader with 8 slots (LTO4) . How do i set up these policies to backup and also retain a copy of customers removed from our storage after 5 years. I need your help

I have a new set of RedHat machines that were built to support 64-bit operations. During the install I had a problem due to a library where only the 64 bit (and not the 32 bit library) was installed -- libacl.so.1 . Is there a client for SLES 11 for use with Netbackup v6.5? I have tried to install the "SuSE 2.6" client that we've been using for SLES 10 SP2, and there is no error on install, but the client will not start, and no error output. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm trying to backup our old Suse Linux 7.3 Server with Backup Exec 12.5 using the RALUS. When I try to start the agent, it complains about wrong versions of my glibc. It needs version 2.3 but I've got only installed version 2.2.4. I tryed to update my system with a rpm from a newer version but that caused several other problems, i.e. I was no longer able to log-in to my system... I need the old glibc version! Then I extracted the content of another glibc-rpm with version 2.3.2-92 and copied the libs that the agent was complaining about to its directory /opt/VRTSralus/bin. Now the agent complains only about two libs: /opt/VRTSralus/bin/beremote: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBC_PRIVATE' not found (required by /opt/VRTSralus/bin/libpthread.so.0) /opt/VRTSralus/bin/beremote: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBC_PRIVATE' not found (required by /opt/VRTSralus/bin/libc.so.6) But I also copied the ld-linux.so.2 to the agent's directory. Without success. Does anybody know how I can...

I have a SLES 10 linux client with two network interfaces. One is connected to internet and one is backup lan. Is it possible to configure vnet to only listen on the backup lan interface? I know you can do that with a firewall, but want to know if it's possible to not even get the vnet daemon started on the internet interface? Thanks Fredrik

Hello. I have been trying to install BE 10.1.5629 for Red Hat Linux Server 5.3 (Tikanga) The instructions I have been following are at http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs279329.htm Anyhow, I have gotten to a spot and I cannot figure out what I need to fix. Once I do step 6 from the document mentioned I get an error: Checking system communication:     Verifying communication with lion3.***.****.local ... ping successful ... is an unsupported platform  Attempting rsh with lion3.***.****.local ... rsh on lion3.***.****.local results in extraneous characters CPI WARNING V-9-10-1020 LION3 cannot communicate with or does not have rsh permissions with the following systems: lion3.***.****.local   While trying to find why the system doesn’t have rsh permissions with itself, I came across this article: ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/303571.pdf when I got to the 2nd step  where it asked me to echo “...

Hello, I have read through the NetBackup Enterprise Server and Server 6.x OS Software Compatibility List and cant figure out if SLES SP2 and SP3 are supported  by 6.5.1. SLES 10 SP1 is listed, does that mean that everything above SP1 is supported? Novell will end their support for SP2 in six months which means we need to upgrade to SP3 on our clients. If there's no support for SP3, is it on the NetBackup roadmap? Thanks /Fredrik
