All, When launching the install,  everything is proceeding normally and when nearing  the end of the install this is the message I'm getting: Starting the NetBackup Notification Service. Starting the NetBackup database manager process (bpdbm). The NetBackup daemon process (bpdbm) was not started. Check the services configuration -- files, YP, NIS, or NIS+. Enter <RETURN> to continue, "x" to exit. Could this error be causing the jnbSA administration console from loading? Thanks, Dave

Has anyone had success imaging ubuntu from/to a first generation intel imac? The computer I'm cloning from works perfectly but when I take an image of it and then clone another intel iMac the former tries to boot and then just constantly writes 'grub' to the screen! I have tried using the -ib -nolilo -fmbr switches with no success. I'm sure this has something to do with using MBR over GPT  but I just don't know how to solve it. HELP!

Hi We're using Brightmail Message Filter  6.1.1.0 and we're having problems receiving mail from gmail.com. The weird thing is that 30-40% of e-mails sent from gmail.com arrives to the receiver, and the rest disappear. As a temporary solution we have added gmail.com to the accepted senders list. This has of course resulted in a lot of spam, because a lot of spammer authenticate as gmail.com. Any other domain works as expected as far as we're concern. How can we troubleshoot this?

Hello, We are having an issue with backing up our VMWare ESX box. As of a week ago, without having changed anything on the backup server (Windows 2003 32bit) or the machine being backed up (VMWare ESX): Backup- \\Server.domain.local] Failed to read extended attributes and ACLs for /. Please review file system mount options to enable support for extended attributes and ACLs. Now - I'll be honest with ya - I am no VMWare ESX guru and we got this box set up by a contractor, so I honestly dont have the slightests clue on what this means. AFAIK the machine does not download/install updates automatically, and nothing has changed about the Backup Exec setup, aside of the fact the machine it is on was recently demoted from Domain Controller to just a server. But this was about 2 weeks ago, the issue started to happen since about a week. I am guessing I will need to change something on the ESX machine, but not sure what. We can of course always call our contractor but...

Hi I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period. I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands.  But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get. Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/".  But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information. Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know. Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further. PVR

In this screencast by PM Chakri Avala, learn about SmartMove and Thin Reclamation technologies offered in Veritas Storage Foundation. Next, watch Chakri go through a demo of SmartMove where he migrates data from a thick to a thin environment. Following the SmartMove demo, Chakri demonstrates how Thin Reclamation reclaims allocated but unused space, while the file system is online. Video Length:  18:36

Hi all, I have installed a VCS version 5.0 MP3 on a two RedHat EL 5.3 64bit nodes, this servers share four SAN disks that are connected by two fibre channel on each server, the multiple links with the SAN are managed with linux multipath daemon. I have configured two types of resources in a one service group: Volume group and File system. The cluster, at the boot time, should import the Volume Group (and activate the logical volume that it contain) and mount the filesystems that is associated with the logical volume. This steps works fine without problems and the Volume group and File system start correctly and works fine, but, after some minutes, these resources do an auto-switch on the second node without reason. In the engine.log I can see this at the switch time : The first message speak about a resource "oradbvg" (is one of my shared volume group) that became online on the second node, but I don't start the resource on the second node. 2009/11/13 14:38:49 VCS INFO V-...

I'm wondering if anyone has run across this issue?  What happens is that I get limitations and no drive path when I try to scan for devices on my SuSe media server.  The master server is Solaris 10 (SPARC).  Devices are showing up fine on all my media servers, except my SuSe Enterprise Linux 11 server.  When I issue a "scan" command on the SuSe server, the "Device Name" returns "-" as the output.  This seems to be the problem.  Here's an example of what I'm seeing. Device Name  : "-" Passthru Name: "/dev/sg3" Volume Header: "" Port: -1; Bus: -1; Target: -1; LUN: -1 Inquiry    : "STK     T9840B          127" Vendor ID  : "STK     " Product ID : "T9840B          " Product Rev: "127" Serial Number: "...

Hi We have a deployment where there are multiple NBU Servers, both on Windows and Linux. On the Windows platform, simply installing the license key activates the BMR option. However, on the Linux platform, installing the NBU license key does not activate the BMR option. It is greyed out. To the best of my knowledge, BMR is not a separately licensed option, and comes with NBU. My question is : Do we need to obtain a separate BMR license key for NBU on Linux? The BMR manual for Linux/Unix says this, but I am not sure how to obtain this. Is this a paid option?  When we use an evaluation key for NBU on Linux, the BMR option gets activated by default. In this case, we do not install a separate BMR license key. So I am confused even more. Thanks in advance for any help on this. Prashanth

Hello We have recently started having problems backing up Linux Home areas on a Windows Server 2003 machine running Backup Exec 12.5 SP2. The following errors are: Backup- E: Directory E:\Shared.Folders\Home\xxxxx\ was not found, or could not be accessed. None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up. This had been working fine and nothing appears to have changed. I have checked folders and can access them ok and browse through them using the selection option in Backup Exec. I hope someone can help Many thanks

Should first point out that both the BUE server as well as the Oracle box are mutlihomed, but I've tested with the credentials that the RMAN listener can be connected to over the network segment that's being used for backup traffic, and I used a custom selection list to specifically point to the correct interface on the Oracle machine, so I'm not sure that there'd be a good reason for this to fail.  Failure occurs immediately. Here's the output from the RMAN script at the time of failure: Recovery Manager: Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production on Thu Nov 5 16:05:45 2009 Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.    # -----------------------------------------------------------------  # RMAN command section  # -----------------------------------------------------------------    RUN {  ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0      TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';  SEND 'BSA_SERVICE_HOST=172.16.4.102,NBBSA_TOTAL_STREAMS=1,NBBSA_JOB_COOKIE={...

Currently the NetBackup client check to see if ALL directories are mount points or not, regardless of this setting.  Each check is taking one to two seconds.  That doesn't seem like much, but when you have 25,000 mount points, it adds up REALLY fast. It would be nice, and much more efficient if the check to determine if a directory is a mount point is disabled if the Cross mount points option is enabled.  After all, if NetBackup is supposed to cross the mount point, how does it matter if it is one or not?

I was having problems about the backup window. so I build a script to help me this script returns the policy name and the average elapsed time in a period. for example: relatorio_elapsed.sh 24 it will return the policy name and the average of elapsed time per policy at last 24 hours. usefull to buid a graphic I hava put the result in a datasheet and made %% of time each backup consumes of the day. It really worked for me. Runs on LINUX / UNIX / SOLARIS U can show the var $media in the printf to show how many times does a policy ran at the period. Thanks

I have been at this now for a few days. Basicly I have migrated the media server to new hardware Details of this can be found here. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-migration-windows-2003-server-windows-2008-server Everything was fine apart from one Red Hat Linux box we have. I editied the ralus.cfg with VI to enter the IP address to point it to the new media server but that didnt work, I then uninstalled and reinstalled the ralus agent on the linux box, rebooted but that doesnt work either. Now when I look at the ralus.cfg I see that it is pointing to my new media server but get this, backups from my old media server works away even though there is no mention of this server in the ralus.cfg..... thats the weird part. This leads me to believe that there is some other step I need to do here to get this working. So what do I have to do to get this working? Is it a license issue? Ultan

I have a client that has a Windows-based network and a Linux web server that I want to suggest BE 12.5 to.  I have the licenses for the NFR BE 12.5 which includes the download of  BEWS_12.5.2213_LINUX-UNIX-MAC-SAP_AGENTS.tar.gz .  I have performed the decompression and extraction based on the documentation and am unable to execute a successful installation.  An error occurs because the system is trying to access the directory where the Perl software is supposed to be but it isn't there.  The Unix, Mac and SAP agent directories all include the appropriate Perl data but not the Linus. What should I do?  I do not have the BE 12.5 media.  Only the download files.

I've just done an install of NBU 6.5.4 as per the NetBackup High Availability Administrator's Guide on RHEL 5 and I've run into an issue regarding the NetBackup VCS Agent on the second node. I forgot that RHEL has iptables on by default and this caused some issues when I ran the cluster_config script. I disabled iptables and my NetBackup service group is up on the node I ran the cluster_config script on, but it can't be switched as the NetBackup VCS Agent is not installed or running. # haagent -display NetBackup #Agent       Attribute      Value NetBackup    AgentDirectory NetBackup    AgentFile NetBackup    Faults         0 NetBackup    Running        No NetBackup    Started        No # haagent -start NetBackup -sys sysname VCS NOTICE V-16-1-10001...
