When we run a differential backup on a mac (Mac OS X 10.5.8 9L30) it takes as long as running a regular full backup. Is this normal?

Has anyone experienced problems with the latest Adlagent 2.6-74.Darwin on OS X workstations (Leopard or Panther)? All my jobs are now failing with "Undefined exit code: 256" If I uninstall the 2.6-74 client and reinstall the 2.6-67.Darwin client the jobs work properly again. Below are screen captures of the log files from:
a machine running the 2.6-74 agent (job fails)
and the 2.6.67 agent (job completes successfully)
It appears the script never gets transferred to the workstation.

Two weeks ago I introduced you to how Enteprise Vault File System Archiving can now be used with Mac systems:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/usin...
This is through our partnership with GroupLogic and their Archive Connect product. Together we are inviting you to a webinar detailing the combined solution. We'll go in to details and show you the problem of using Mac systems with FSA. We'll then go through Archive Connect and a demonstration of how it solves the underlying issues. The webinar will be held at 11AM EDT / 8AM PDT on Wednesday 7th October. Please go to this link to register:
https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/564428771
Additonal webinars that are more time friendly for EMEA and APJ will be announced shortly.
We look forward to seeing you on the 7th!

Anyone using FSA with Mac systems in their organization? Anyone wanting to archive Mac generated content but been unable to in the past? Check out my blog entry detailing how the Mac is now a supported client for FSA and why we have not been able to offer that support previously:

Over the last couple of years, we have seen a high uptake of Enterprise Vault File System Archiving (FSA) amongst our install base. However, we have not been able to offer support for customers where Apple Mac systems need to access the archived files. That is, until now. I’m excited to detail our support for FSA and Mac systems through our partnership with Group Logic.
First of all some background to why we have not been able to support Mac systems as clients for FSA. When we create placeholders we set the CIFS ‘O’ Offline attribute. A Windows client knows to treat this file differently to non-archived files. Indeed, on seeing the ‘O’ attribute set, Windows will change the icon of the file so that you have a visual indicator that this is a pointer to the file which is now “somewhere else”. (On Windows XP you will see a black clock symbol in the bottom left of the file icon. With Vista and Windows 7 you will see an ‘X’ symbol...

I am curious if anyone else has a problem removing quarantined files.
I seems in Antivirus 11.x for the Mac OS X one can remove only one file at a time.
Is there a work-around to batch remove the whole lot of the files at once?
Thanks

Hi all,
I wonder if anybody can shed any light on the following problem.
I have a NetBackup server running version 6.5.2 and a need to connect Mac clients. The clients are running Mac OS X 10.5.6 and 10.5.8.
According to http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/304434.htm NetBackup 6.5.2 is a patch release that is meant to upgrade an existing 6.5.x installation. Attempting to locally install NetBackup 6.5 on a client running Mac OS X 10.5 will fail.
What installer do I need to run on my 10.5 boxes to make NetBackup recognise them as clients?.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I have 4 Mac (Intel) systems that are failing LiveUpdate on Virus Definitions only:
LiveUpdate would not complete the Virus Definitions install. I reinstalled SAV 10.2, but received the following two errors in succession:
Symantec AntiVirus Error
Symanted AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine. Please run LiveUpdate to get the latest version. (Code: 6)
Here is the Error we get on Live Update...
Updating Error
There was an error performing the update.
What we have done so far:
Repaired permissions on the startup volume
Reinstalled SAV 10.2
Attempted to run LiveUpdate as a customized update (Virus Definitions only)
Please advise...

#4 down! 26 more to go. This is getting fun actually.
This script will query an NS using the ExecuteDatabaseQuery method and grab every subnet known to Inventory Solution. It then takes each subnet and creates a dynamic collection on the server under a folder you specify. This is using the CreateCollection method.
Note, the subnets are coming from inventory data, not from defined subnets. It can be adapted easily for creating collections based on defined subnets. Either way, It's a good way to keep your NS resources clean and organized.

We recently upgraded from Enterprise Vault 2007 for Microsoft Exchange to v8.0 SP2 (8.0.2). The upgrade went well, and we are having no problems accessing archives through any of our Outlook/Windows workstations. However, I am having difficulty getting the new EV Toolbar for Mac v8.0.2 (1100) to open/restore archives with Entourage 2008 SP2.
When I select a message that has been archived and click the 'View' button on the EV toolbar, it only opens the stub/shortcut message. If I select that same message and click Restore from Vault, it notifies me that it is:
"Unable to restore because you have not selected any archived items. Select at least one archived item and try again."
Interestingly though, if I select that same message and click Store in Vault I am presented with the following notice:
"Unable to archive the selected items because they are already stored in the vault."
As a sanity check, I selected a new message and clicked Store in Vault. I did not get an...

Hello Again! I am working on one very interesting feature of NTFS file system from last 6 months and I can tell you it’s really very interesting. Yes, I am talking about alternate data streams (ADS). In this article, I will refer them mostly as ADS.
Just for a general introduction, Alternate Data Streams (ADSs) are a unique feature of NTFS file systems introduced with Windows NT 3.1 in the early 1990s to provide compatibility between Windows NT servers and Macintosh clients which use Hierarchical File System (HFS). HFS uses streams named “resource fork” and “data fork”. Both streams (or forks) are linked to one name in the Macintosh file system. Resource forks are used to store application metadata (icons, sounds, fonts, etc.). NTFS ADSs can provide additional descriptions for folders or files (creator, keywords, thumbnail preview, etc.), and can also be used to attach independent named data streams to an NTFS file or folder.
They are all hidden...

hey guys,
we have a ton of macs that are configured to be backed up nightly. a lot of these are laptops that people take home sometime, and therefore we end up with a ton of failed backups in the activity monitor.
this 'pull' mechanism for laptop backups seems to not work very well, due to the machines being mobile so much.
i'm wondering if there is any convenient (i.e. doesn't require some elaborate client-side cron job or scripting) to do a kind of 'push' backup for these machines. something like they connect to the internal network, and then wake up and start backing themselves up to netbackup. kinda/sorta like time machine i guess.
does netbackup support something like this?

Hello there,
We just recently upgraded to Backup Exec version 12.5. I am in the process of converting all desktop clients over to the new backup software. We have a mix of Mac and Windows systems. The windows systems are easy as they can be "pushed" from the server, but the Macs are a pain due to having to walk the install CD to each client and run the installer from it.
The previous version of the software we used was Veritas Backup Exec version 9.1, and we had an installation package that could be placed on the server for use during network installs. Has anyone here had similar issues? If I knew what I needed from the CD I could probably put something together, but if there is something like this already out there I would love to know where I could find it. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Frank

We the end users were invited to a 2 hour meeting via webex with Symantec to show them how we use the environment and also so Symantec can show us some of the new website look
Yes we did show you how we use it and also demonstarted to you other sites we found useful and other site layouts we found easy to navigate
What we were shown was just the silver buttons on the top of the window and a slightly different version but in blue.
I know I was not asked about the new forum layout because if I was I would have said NO.
I, as did others, give my opinion on how we would like it to look and we were told that our suggestions were helpful and would be taken into consideration
The truth is we spent two hours on a call and all our explinations as to how and why we use the site as we do and also any suggestions we offered were ignored.
Why even bothering asking the end user if you are going to ignore them and just go your...
