Hi all,
our situation is the following: we have EV8 sp2 running with 2 different vault stores, one for exchange 2007 archiving and the other for file system archiving. Both vault stores are in the same vault store group with sharing level enabled within the entire group.
We are archiving exchange journaling in the same vault store used for user mailbox archiving.
Now we'd like to create a new vault store within the group and use it for journaling archiving, using more partitions mounted via network share for automatic rollover. Within this partinion we won't enable collactions.
When every year the partion rollover will occour we want to backup the closed partition to tape and the erase data from disk. In case we need to search in journaling archive for data not available on disk we can schedule a manual restore.
Is it possible to do that? How does EV works when a closed partition is currently defined and indexed but data has been removed from disk?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Andrea...

Hello,
Iam testing the Desaster Recovery for an Windows Exchange 2007 Server running on a 64bit Windows2003 Machine.
Iam using BE 12.5.
I set up a testing Enviroment, with our Active Directory.
Then I set up a BE 12.5 (testing version) in this enviroment too.
Then I set up a Wind2003 64bit on a new machine for the recovery test.
I copied the IMG and B2D files containing the Image and SystemStae of our live Server to the Server in the testing enviroment.
Servername: srv-mail-01
Domain: whatever.mydom
-- examples of course :-)
I followed the steps unt No. 10 in this document for recovering the system State and so on...
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/236286.htm
Here is the problem now:
When I try to recover the server BE does not find it.
I guess because BE is looking for srv-mail-0.whatever.mydom and the "new" server wich si still in the workgroup has the name srv-mail-01 WITHOUT the domain?
File redirection seems not to work, its just coping the files to the server...

Hello,
last Week my Problem started, if i want to make a Backup of the single Mailboxes of the Exchange2003 Users the Backup Job hangs at the last entry of my Backup Job.
The Jobs seems to run but it hangs it is not possible to chance it or something, i have to stop all Services and restart them.
I know its not important to save the single Mailboxes if i got a Backup from the InformationStore. But i want to get fast back to single Elements if something happens.
My System Windows 2003 Server, Backup Exec 10d+Exchange Option+OpenFiles, Exchange 2003. Every Software is Patched already and there are no more Paches available.
One thing i changed is the Backup Driver. First i got a LTO1 and now a LTO3.
Hope someone can Help.
Thank You
Best Regards

Hi,
I am testing BESR and tried to backup our Exchange 2003 server today, aftewr about 6% the systems seems to freeze and I could not do anything with it. Even after ending the program the server was still unusable until i did a hard reboot.
Any ideas what could be causing this, the server is 5 yrs old but onlt has 70 mailboxes so it not under a massive load.
Do you need tohave plenty of drive space available, i.e does the system cache the backup on the system 1st so if the Exchange db is say 50GB you will need atleast 50GB spare on the drive?
The backup was standard except i ticked the VSS option
Any guidance is appreciated.

Hello,
We have a permissions problem with a Exchange mailbox and the easiest solution would be to delete the mailbox and create a new one.
On the Exchange part, we'd export its contents to a PST file (incl the EV shortcuts), then delete the mailbox, create a new mailbox (not attach the old one) and import the PST. We wouldn't delete the AD user account.
But what's the best practice for the EV side if we want to keep transparent access to the old archive?
When we create the new mailbox, provision and enable it in EV, would EV :
- automatically link the old archive with the new mailbox;
- display all the old archived messages via AE in the new mailbox;
- allow all the PST-imported shortcuts to work?
Or would it create a completely new archive for the new mailbox and make all the PST-imported shortcuts invalid?!
Thanks in advance,
- Alan.

I am a fairly large organizations but don't expect that my users will be utilizing DA8 much, since they already don't use it too much on the old network we have. I am trying to size out our new design for the DA server and so far I have:
OS: 36GB VMDK
Pagefile:4GB VMDK
I know I am in need of a "production" area where cases can be exported when required for production of the eDiscovery results, but not sure how to come up with this number. Oh, and its a 4 core processor @ 3.0 Ghz with 4GB memory.
I also need to provide more storage availabiltiy on my sql dbs for analytics. How do I size this one as well????
Thanks!

Hello,
Background
We're using Backup Exec 12.5. Recently, we upgraded from Exchange 2003 to 2007 (new installation altogether), and as the laws of information technology state, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". Now we need to recover a single mailbox with all of its contents from backup tapes, and the easiest way would be to restore to the original server. However, that server was part of a cluster which is not functioning anymore. Instead, we have a temporary Exchange server, but are unable to get it to work properly (mainly because of time limitations; we cannot test whether recovering works, wait an hour and a half for the information to be retrieved from backup tapes, and then repeat the retrieval process if the recovery was unsuccessful).
The big question
Microsoft gives good instructions (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823176, method 3) on how to recover mailboxes from the actual Exchange database files by just mounting the files, but our backups were made...

Hi
I would like to know what are the files are backed up against a client and against a policy on a particular day or particular period.
I have tried to use bplist and bpflist commands. But the strange thing is i am able to see the images using BAR GUI and bpimagelist commands, if i want to know granualrity i am unable to get.
Another strage thing, the bpflist command is able to retrieve the information file systems inforamtion like if i have a policy againist solaris client, and the backup selection is "/", i am able to see the backed up files under '/". But if i have a policy where backup selection is individual files like c:\mssql\transaction.log or d:\*.BAK or e:\*.cfg, i am unable retrieve the information.
Due to this customers are getting like, is the product is enough matured or the product has limitation or end user doesn't know.
Well before having all the speculation, could any one advise me how to proceed further.

Hi All,
Not sure if anyone has experienced this problem, however I have a client who is currently on EV 8 SP1, with EV 8 Sp1 outlook add-in. The user experiencing the problem uses Windows 7 with Outlook 2007 and a whole lot of other add-ins (Typical Developer). Anyways when VC begins to synchronize the initial goes well, however as soon as it starts to download from the cache location, outlook crashes and restarts. Client trace in full mode not showing any unusual errors that I can see, and nothing in the user app logs, except for event id 1000. Thus far, I have disabled all non relevant add-ins, repaired office 2007, reset evclient, cleared vault cache and rebuilt as well as deleted the vault cache folder from the user's windows profile and rebuilt to no avail. As soon as the VC starts to download outlook bombs out.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks
YellowFever
This is what the event id in the users app log looks like.

Hi
I am currently busy with a DRP exercise and is restoring 2 backup jobs from a LTO1 tape. I am using backup Exec 10d. When I catalog the tape, only my second job is catalogued 113gig. My exchange information store, 30gig backup job shows 0 bytes. According to backup exec on my live server both backup jobs ran successful. The first backup job is set to overwrite and the second job is set to append only.
Please assist
Thanks
Ivan

I have read many of the help topics in my Veritas 9.1 (with Exchange Component)
It is hard to sort out what you can and can't do depending on if you do a MB/Public B/U or storage group BU and if you are restoring to original location, RSG or Redirecting. Im making a chart with backup this to restore this etc. cause its so convoluted in the helps.
Anyway as I'm working my way along there is one Veritas help article that is titled "Redirecting Exchange 2000 and 2003 Storage Group and Database Restores"
One paragraph says,
***************************
Following are requirements for redirecting restores:
The storage groups and databases must already exist on the target server, and have the same names as the original storage groups or databases.
*************************
I have a couple of questions regarding this. (by the way I understand that its talking about BUing up the (first) storage group, not individual MBs and public folders.)
1. How am I suppose...

I am having a problem restoring exchange 2003 to a recovery storage group. I have 9 different mail stores and all of them restored successfully except the 5th one in the second storage group.
The Error it is giving is (socket write failed(24). I have tried the Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED and upgraded my client to 6.5.4 (same as master server). I also checked the rights on the folder and the exchange server.

Hi
I hope I'm missing something really simple.
I have upgraded to SP3.
Vault Cache is available for users.
Make Virtual Vault available to users is ticked.
Users are not getting the Virtual Vault tab in Vault Cache properties.
I experimented with one user, manually entering the VVEnabled registry entry and the Virtual Vault Tab appeared, but that user still isn't given all the other settings (such as permissions to delete items).
If however I check the 'Tech Info' (help-about), VV_AllowHardDelete is set to true.
Hope someone can help
Nick

My Question is really simple: Is it possible to restore the exchange 3003 backup to a 2007 server with the backup-exec 12.5?
Thanks in advance

We have Windows 2000 SP4 and Outlook 2003 SP2 with the Enterprise Vault Add-in. We also have PGP_Desktop installed (with email functionality disabled).
Some users are reporting that their draft emails are automatically sent...it only seems to happen with E-Store items...
The below is the following steps I take to replicate the sending of drafts:
• Save two e-mails in the Drafts folder
• Turn Outlook offline
• Reply to a estored e-mail
• Turn Outlook back online (The estored e-mail will stay in Drafts)
• Reply to another estored e-mail
All drafts will then send, including the ones saved addressed to myself.
(PGP state that they are not touching the email, merely recording it was sent/received).
Any ideas anyone? Is this a known issue?

I've scoured the forums and maybe I'm not looking for the correct search terms.
Here's my scenario as a new EV user:
I installed Enterprise Vault and attached the 2 Exchange Servers in my admin group.
Vault was running fine for 2 weeks and it was time to run the ESEUTIL on my 75GB EDB file on 1 of the Exchange servers. I want to list what happened and how I arrived at where I'm at now.
Sat 9PM: ESEUTIL ran for 10 hours and left me with an unmountable priv1.EDB file.
Sun 9AM: ESEUTIL repair ran for 17 hours and fixed my EDB util and I mounted the EDB, the queues emptied and I was good (Mon 2:30 AM) - I went to bed.
Mon 8AM: When I got to work at 8 AM, users reported that they could receive email but couldn't send email, so I ran a quick 1 hour NTBackup of my new 17.5GB info store. Then I proceded with an ISINTEG -fix to check and possibly repair the ACLs.
Mon 11 AM: I got into trouble here when ISINTEG deleted...

I am using EV 8.0.2 for Exchange and need to run a report that will tell me how much space is being used up by archived email older than 7 years so I can convince management that we need a retention policy. Can I do this with EV reports or do I have to create an SQL query?
Thanks.

I'm experimenting with the Backup Exec 2010 Beta. I am trying to backup a Virtual Machine on Windows Server 2008 R2 using the Hyper-V agent. The virtual machine is also running Windows Server 2008 R2, and it contains Exchange 2010.
The Exchange Server is not backed up, and I get the following errors:
V-79-57344-65097 - Error. Cannot backup directory \zzzVirtApp001zzz and its subdirectories.V-79-57344-65097 - Error. Cannot backup directory \zzzVirtApp002zzz and its subdirectories.Final error: 0xe000fe49 - An invalid parameter was specified.
I assume that the two "directories" are the Exchange Public and Private Store. Note that if I backup this Exchange Server directly with the Exchange Agent, it works fine.
Any ideas?
