Hi all,              i have 2 solaris servers which are connected with storage array. When i launch VEA frmo server 1 and create disk group followed by volume creation it creates. SImiliarly when i do the same from secondary server, it also does the same but the thing is allocating one more separate volume. but i want to see those volumes which are mounted from server 1 (after unmounting from server 1) in server 2. is it possible. that is i have to have the volume as common , so that anyone of the server can access at an instant. If one fails, then the secondary server can access it. Can anyone help me on this Regards, Sri

Hello I use VCS 4.1 and have problem with shared folders. When i try to switch resources from one to another nod 3 of shared folders, that are mounted with NFS are unable to unmont from one nod and mount to another nod. I'm not to familiar with the cluster and I don't know what kind of information to give you to check where is the problem. I will post main.cf. In this screencast by PM Chakri Avala, learn about SmartMove and Thin Reclamation technologies offered in Veritas Storage Foundation. Next, watch Chakri go through a demo of SmartMove where he migrates data from a thick to a thin environment. Following the SmartMove demo, Chakri demonstrates how Thin Reclamation reclaims allocated but unused space, while the file system is online. Video Length:  18:36

Hi Gurus,                     I have a question related to Veritas Cluster 5.0. I have configured HA setup using two nodes. I have installed my prodcut in both the nodes. Now I can access my product using the Virtual IP address. But the fact is my product runs based on the server hostname. So as like as Virtual IP address , if there is virtual hostname then i dont want to install product on both the nodes. Instead i can use a storage array in between and install prodcut on that storage array using virtual hostname which is created when configuring the cluster. Can anyone help me on this problem. With Regards, Sri

As background, we are implementing a shared MultiNICB resource using Veritas Storage Foundation HA 5.0 on Solaris 10 5/09. I am having a problem with an IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_app) faulting when its proxy (ProxyMNB_app) of the shared MultiNICB resource (MNB_ora) faults due to network failures.  This fault must be cleared manually.  This only happens for the IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_app) that is tied through the proxy to the MultiNICB resource (MNB_ora) in the other group.  The IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_ora) in the group with the MultiNICB resouce (MNB_ora) never faults. I am looking for a solution that either: a) prevents IPMNICB_app from faulting when MNB_ora faults, or b) automatically clears IPMNICB_app's fault when MNB_ora's fault clears. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Keith Here is my main.cf, for reference include "types.cf" include "GDVerifyTypes.cf" include "HNChangeTypes.cf" include...

Hi  All We have one veritas cluster(node A and node B) EMS application is running on cluster.. After EMS apps upgrade  EMS application taking  long time to start....  NOw ,the problem which we are facing is when we are trying to start the application through cluster.. it is not getting started due to monitor timeout....(VCS is not waiting for 5 min to let appliation start) We would like to change the parameter so that VCS should wait for 5 min during startiong the application.   Given below are the paramters for EMS agents aocemi05a:root# hatype -display EMS #Type        Attribute              Value EMS          ActionTimeout          40 EMS          AgentClass           ...

Good day, I need some urgent help. The cluster in question is a GCO cluster. Primary node is currently down due to a hardware  fault. After the hardware is replaced ( A server board ) will HAD try to bring up the service groups which are currently online on the secondary while rebooting the primary. Well, if it confuses you, when the primary node is being rebooted would HAD/GCO try to switch over the service groups to the primary. Auto failover is disabled. I really   appreciate an early response. This is a solaris 8 cluster cheers!

Adding an install script for the Rolling patches like the MP's for Solaris would be very helpful. Lately Rolling Patches have been patching all the products so it takes time to figure out all the patches that need to be installed.

Hi Gurus,                  We have Two servers in VCS setup, Named A and B with our product installed. In both of our server, the corresponding service were not running.  we have written on our agent scripts (i.e. online.pl, offline.pl, monitor.p) and imoprted our product_types.cf successfully using Veritas cluster server manager java console. This is a HA setup made up with 2 nodes. After configuring cluster server, we have created a service group called AR with type as failover. Followed by created a resource called chk_r(using our product resource) under this service group and marked both Critical and Enabled option. When we try to ONLINE this resource, it throws the following error in engine_A.log 22:36:29 VCS ERROR V-16-1-10303 Resource chk_r (Owner: unknown, Group: chk) is FAULTED (timed out) on sys odc-popc-9 22:34:25 VCS ERROR V-16-10001-102 (odc-popc-9) AR:chk_r:...

Hello Everyone, The highly anticipated next release of SMS DOM (8.0.5) will provide native support to Lotus Domino 8.5.0 and the upcoming 8.5.1 (Oct ’09) 64-bit on Windows and AIX.  It will allow for cross platform replication / management across AIX 5.3/6.1 and Windows 2003/2008 for 32 and 64 bit. This release is on target for March 2010 GA. Functionality is expected to be identical to the current SMS DOM 8.0 version.  Customers can get a head start to their migration by setting up SMS DOM 8.0 in their test environment with the exact policies they want in place.  They will be able to upgrade that environment to 8.0.5 and replicate those settings to their production servers. Customers looking to rollout Lotus Domino 8.5.0 might want to wait a month for 8.5.1.  8.5.1 delivers a good number of fixes and new features. http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/press/us/en/pressrelease/27493.wss http://www.dominopower.com/issues/issue200901/00002322002 Linux, Solaris, and...

we're having issues with the switches we are running our heartbeats through and are thinking of increasing the gab timeout value to prevent unecessary attempts at failover.  Seems the switches are having some kind of spanning tree issue that causes the heartbeats to timeout when it is remapping certain ports.  The ideal solution would be to get our own private heartbeat switch, but that's not gonna happen just yet.  So are there any reprocussions to having the gab stable timeouts increased to say 60 seconds?  Also i tried adding the value -t 60000 to /etc/gabtab and the timeout didn't get set when i ran /etc/init.d/gab start/stop.  Is there another place where this should be set? anyway we're running vcs5.0 on solaris 10 platform.  Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Jon.

This presentation was given at Collaborate2009 and covers how to create virtualized Oracle servers utilizing Solaris Zones and make them completely portable, even to another data center. The solution is accomplished with the Solaris OS, Oracle RDBMS, and Symantec (Veritas) Storage Foundation HA/DR. The portable “Oracle zones” are storage and replication-method agnostic, and the database files are “wrapped” so they can even be transported to other *nix platforms for backup or migration purposes.

Hi Gurus,                      Herewith I come across one more query regarding HA setup in windows / solaris platform. Is it possible to make HA setup with 4 nodes ? This is how my setup should looks like Server A (in primary ) --- Server A1 (in secondary) (This is the back for my server A) Server B (in primary) - server B1 (in secondary) (this is the back for my server B)   Here i am using replication network to replicate the data between the servers. Is this possible within single cluster setup.  I heard like we are supporting upto 32 nodes, but the possibility for back up server is only 1. Is that so ? If so , how can  i acheive the above setup. I come across with an idea like creating 2 clusters (each for 2 pair of setup). Will that work fine . ??? any comments on this is much appreciated. Thanks, Sri.

Hi gang, I'm trying to get VVR replicating between two sites. I'm using the following ports: heartbeat=4145 vradmind=4545 vxrsyncd=8989 data=65500 In the lab, this is what I see (that's relevant to this question): server1 : 4145 -> server2 : 4145 server2 : 4145 -> server1 : 4145 --and-- server1 : 65500 -> server2 : 65500 server2 : 65500 -> server1 : 65500 on the production systems where this isn't working, I see the following: server1 : 4145 -> server2 : 4145 server2 : 4145 -> server1 : 4145 --and-- server1 : 65500 -> server2 : 4145 server2 : 65500 -> server1 : 65500 the /etc/vx/vvrports file seems correct. i've tried stopping and restarting all the vvr processes (/etc/init.d/vras* stop / start and /usr/sbin/vxstart_vvr, etc). what's odd is the traffic from port 65500 to port 4145.  I don't see anything close to this in the lab. I'm not sure how or where VVR...

All, I have recently been given the task of configuring up a Solaris 10 x86 NetBackup 6.5 server (combined master/media) to allow our company to backup a few large Solaris servers (combination of Sparc and x86). Having no experience with NetBackup (but lots of general administration experience) I have managed to configure the NB server to backup three out of four nodes which we need to currently backup. The fourth client I am trying to backup is a Solaris 10 Sparc Zone (large zone - no lsof mount points). The global zone is backing up fine, but the non-global is constantly telling me that the backup is successful, but no files or kb have been transferred. I have tried the same schedule as the other three client (which I can restore from) and have used the same installation media for all four clients. The result of a backup is as follows: 08/04/2009 21:45:31 - requesting resource <backup_server>-hcart-robot-tld-0 08/04/2009 21:45:31 - requesting...
