SBG GUI interface should report correct version information when internet access unavailable.
Currently, when you access the "Software and Services" tab of the Status > Hosts section of the GUI, the page will time out, and upon refresh not display the Control Center or Scanner version.
This data is local and should be available. A shorter timeout on the internet access would also be advisable.

After capturing a profile using the Symantec User Migration Tool, I am unable to open the .ump file in ghost explorer. We have captured multiple profiles using the same tool with no issue. It seems to be that the .ump file is corrupt. Are there any tools out there that would allow me to extract the contents of this 4.3gb ump file? How about any tools that will allow me to repair this file?
The version of the SUM Package Explorer is: 11.5.0.2113
The Error is: Not a User Migration Package
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
The highly anticipated next release of SMS DOM (8.0.5) will provide native support to Lotus Domino 8.5.0 and the upcoming 8.5.1 (Oct ’09) 64-bit on Windows and AIX. It will allow for cross platform replication / management across AIX 5.3/6.1 and Windows 2003/2008 for 32 and 64 bit.
This release is on target for March 2010 GA.
Functionality is expected to be identical to the current SMS DOM 8.0 version. Customers can get a head start to their migration by setting up SMS DOM 8.0 in their test environment with the exact policies they want in place. They will be able to upgrade that environment to 8.0.5 and replicate those settings to their production servers.
Customers looking to rollout Lotus Domino 8.5.0 might want to wait a month for 8.5.1. 8.5.1 delivers a good number of fixes and new features.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. Just recently I had a security pop-up saying my antivirus was not enabled. In my task bar I have the symantec shield but it has a red circle and line through it. When I right click on that shield and then click on enable auto-protect it does not enable. It puts an entry into the history saying "Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect failed to load" and then does nothing else. I have updated, uninstalled and re-installed, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Hi All
I have built a machine from sratch that is a dual boot system, both XP, ive ran the create image task which runs and creats the files, but on reboot the below message comes up.....
Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware."
This is not a restore just a create image task, I have created 6 diffrent images on different models before and even once before on this on, but any laptop of this model I try to image causes this, and doing a fdisk /mbr does not work because it cannot read the fist partitioned drive.
I think im going to go mad here as I have only managed to fine this error on the net regarding a restore, id understand it because it could be different hardware but this is a create image task.
Please help

A multi-home computer (with 2 NIC and having an IP for each of them) will show as offline in SEPM console.
Secars test is OK for the client.
Copied Sylink file but no green dot and it is still ofline.
Disabled 1 NIC card and reinstalled client and restarted computer but still issue persists.
In the Client interface, the information in front of Server and Group is blank. Confirmed that in registry
PreferredGroup key is not existing in the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC\SYLINK\SyLink\
Checked in the sylink.xml of the client, it has all the relevent info and sylink looks to be perfect.
When replaced a new sylink, its information is not getting processed.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Gautam

Dear Members,
I'm hoping some could assist me with a problem.
I suspect that my pc could be infected with a virus. I turn off the system restore, restart in safemode & start the antivirus program.
However, when I click on scan the computer in the antivirus program, I get an Internet Explorer error message & the antivirus program shuts down automatically.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Many thanks,
Itcertify.

Many technical support cases can be mission-critical with significant business assets at stake. When a Symantec sales team found itself head-to-head against a competitor for a million dollar NetBackup deal, they called on tech support for answers—and help. Jaime, a NetBackup support specialist, picked up the call.
A large, regional health insurance company needed to replace its home-grown UNIX backup and recovery software. Symantec was in the running as software of choice, but the customer had some questions about the product capabilities.
“Our Symantec sales rep said the potential customer was particularly concerned with bare metal restores, BMR, running AIX,” Jaime recalls. “The rep sent an urgent email to our engineering facility in Pune, India to see if the group had a white paper on BMR with AIX or UNIX.” The sales rep had cc’d Jaime on the message. Jaime contacted the lead sales engineer to get a better feel for exactly what the customer...

Here's a product release notice provided from Symantec Tech Support.
Products: Veritas Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0 Release Update 1 (RU1) for SLES 11 Linux
OS Version: SLES 11
General Availability Date: 6/5/2009
Product Description:
The Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 RU1 release is based on 5.0 MP3 RP2 and includes support for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11. All issues in RU1 are cumulative since the 5.0 release. However, Veritas Storage Foundation for DB2, Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle, and Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System RAC are not available in the Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 RU1 release because Oracle and DB2 have not yet provided support for databases on SLES 11. We have SEP 11 installed on approx 500 clients and some of them have issues using Outlook and HTTPS sites. Outlook is running in RPC over HTTPS mode so its likely that the problem is more related to HTTPS and Outlook is suffering because of it.
Outlook - send/receive basically doesnt work (though no errors) - no emails come in and if you send any they just sit in the outbox forever. Right clicking and disabling SEP (only the firewall parts) makes everything spring to life and work fine, but turning it back on blocks again.
HTTPS - many secure websites just stop - no error or failure, they just sit there doing nothing. It doesnt affect all HTTPS sites, just some.
I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this issue or has any suggestions. I have a call open with support but unfortunately nothing is really getting done and hasn't for some time now (months).
Thanks in advance.,
David

Hi,
I discover one problem in BE12 (all SP) : My BackupExec Server was unable to send email (Test or Notification).
The BackupExec Server is based in Caracas, with the official time zone of Venezuela (GMT-4:30). In this case, you can´t send email (at least, BE is connecting itself to the SMTP server, but nothing is sending).
To make the email working, you have to put your server in a "normal" time zone (eg Bogota Time GMT-5:00 or Atlantic Time GMT-4:00) to make the BE server able to send email.
Rgds,

Hi All
I have a bit of a interesting Symantec problem which has stopped the deployment of SEP to the rest of our Machines.
Users running SEP on there machine are having issues that are popping up about 60-70% of the time when they log on.
It seems SEP take a hold of something in there profiles (directory C:\Documents and Settings\*username here*\) which is not allowing them to grab there profile so windows is gonig and creating a new profile for them each time, this means they lose all there favourites, desktop icons, lotus notes confirguration and more.
Is anybody out there having the same or similar issues and if a fix/work around is out there can someone please point me in the right direction.
I am still learning my way around SEPMC so the more basic the answer the easier it will be for me.
Thank you to anybody that takes the time to read/reply to this

I know times are hard and every one is truly looking at the bottom lines, but it is very hard to deal with an off shored tech support experience when you are a some what technical person. I appreciate that the people that Symantec has are friendly and timely, but I would rather talk to some one that I don't struggle to understand their broken english. No offense I have talked to some very nice people that are not in the US and English isn't the primary language.
It would be nice if you could put in to the phone tree a way to evaluate your skills and then be directed to a tech that was at or above your technical level. It is frustrating to get some one on the phone and then teach them about the features of their product that they don't know.
I do know that Symantec offers different tiers of support for more Money and honestly I would OK with paying more but I can't see a contract in place for my one or two times a year that I need to call.

In some cases, frontline technical support encounters an issue it just doesn’t have the resources to solve. In a recent case, a large, multinational electronics manufacturing customer called in with NetBackup problems. A number of its backup processes had stalled, leaving running backups unfinished and new backups unable to start. The two environments affected were extensive—literally thousands of backup jobs executing across the enterprise through more than a dozen media servers. The affected backup jobs did not appear to hang at any particular point in the process nor were the same jobs affected every time. After collecting data, frontline support escalated the issue to the backline support team.
Hung processes
Debbie, a Symantec NetBackup support specialist, took the lead in tracking down the intermittent stalled backups. One of the first things that caught her attention was the customer’s use of numerous scripts tracking media allocations on several of their...

Sometimes support boils down to pure numbers. Version numbers, that is. Recently a large county government customer contacted Symantec Business Critical Support (BCS) with an Enterprise Vault issue. Brian, the Business Critical Account Manager (BCAM) noted that the customer’s EV Discovery Accelerator (DA) was no longer working. Ken, an EV technical support expert, picked up the ticket within ten minutes and contacted the customer.
“I called Eric [the customer] and set up a WebEx session immediately.” Recalls Ken. “He told me that after an upgrade to Discovery Accelerator 8.0, the program no longer worked. “One of the first things Support needs to know in this kind of case is what are the previous and current versions of the software?” Ken found that the customer had upgraded from Version 2007 Service Pack 1 to Version 8.0 Base – an upgrade path which is not supported and does not work.
Upgrade confusion
Ken knew from his support experience...
