Hi All,
I'm having problem in backup of Exchange Server 2007 SP1 using Backup Exec 12.5 SP2 agent ?
the following exceptions are always reported in all of my Exchange backup :-|
Backup- \\Exchange01.domain.com\ExchangeOAB
- AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\Exchange01.domain.com\CertEnroll". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
V-79-10000-11231 - VSS Snapshot error. Activity on a volume is preventing all volumes from being snapped. Try selecting the option 'Process logical volumes for backup, one at a time' , and then run the job again.
the credentials that I use is the domain\administrator password ?
can anyone here please help or explain this matter ?
Thanks.

Hi
I’m trying to configure a D2D (no tape) backup to a NAS box.
What I need to accomplish is this:
Saturday Full backup to folder “Weekly” on my NAS. Keep the ability to restore 10 weeks back (only Saturdays)
Monday - Friday differential backup to folder “Daily” on my NAS. Overwrite each “day” the following week.
I’ve created to Jobs (Weekly backup / Daily backup) and two Media Sets (Daily / Weekly)
The Weekly job have the “overwrite” parameter set!
The Weekly Media set have 10 weeks of protection and append set to “none”
The Daily job have the “overwrite / append” parameter set!
The Daily Media set have 6 days of protection and append set to “none” (I expect it to create more files if needed?? And the reuse them when overwrite protection expires??)
Both jobs have "software compression" set.
Is this the right way to accomplish my...

Hi symantec community,
I've been delving over PDFs and Manuals over all symantec and still cant get a straight response, even i tried to get email support (and telephone) and it redirects me to symantec connect.
The problem is that i need an official response from Symantec that Backup Exec 12.5 SP2 does not support security roles, and it depends entirely on windows permissions.
I know ofr fact that it is as im descrbing it, but still i need an official response for a report over an installation of Backup Exec.
anything that you recommend or require i'll be glad to help!
Thanks for your time!

Dear Experts,
we've sold a small part of our business to another company, a number of staff are going to the new company and want their mail files migrated over.
I can export EV archives as PSTs and their live mail files, also as PST's, but I want to avoid them finding irrelevant short cuts / stubs in the files when they are imported to their new companies' exchange environment.
I've thought about exporting their ev archives back to exchange and thus reducing their pst files to just one each. Does anyone have a better idea and if possible a clean process to remove the shortcuts ?
thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi All,
I'd like to perform migration of my current physical Exchange Server 2007 from RAID-5 LUN into a server with fewer Hard Disk drive in RAID-1
is there anything that i should be paying attention into ?
Source: 5x 400 GB with RAID 5
Target: 2x 400 GB with RAID 1
I've calculated that the total content of the partitions on source server is just 198 GB, therefore I am dare to move the Exchange Server into the smaller disk drive.
Previously, Ive done restoration to a bigger LUN size and it doesn't go as I expected with the unknown partition cannot be used. So is there anything that i should do before during and after this process ?
Thanks.

My client purchased Symantec Endpoint Small Business suite.
Thus all client workstation have the Symantec backup client.
They would now like to both backup their Server and additionally have a central management backup console to manage backups within their environment.
Please indicate what are the licenses needed to backup the server and also to have a central backup console to manage all backup clients on the network.
Regards,
Shane Barnes

We have a box of old DLT tapes that were used for backups with previous versions of Backup Exec (maybe V9.0 or earlier). These tapes were also created using different Tape Drive hardware than what is on site today. We would like to review what data is on these tapes. The problem is that when we "Inventory" the tapes, they show up as being Blank Media.
We have set up a Server with a fresh install of Windows Server 2003, and a fresh install of Backup Exec V9.0. We have verified that the tape drive functions properly, since a few of the tapes do Inventory properly, and we are able to Catalog them. The only tapes that seem to work are the ones that were originally created with this particular Server and DLT Tape drive.
Does anyone have suggestions about how we can go about restoring data that is on these tapes?

Is it normal for the job to take longer when switching from append to overwrite? We are running 11d using B2D. Jobs are taking 1.5 times longer when they switch from append to media and go to overwriteable media.

NBU 6.5.4
OS = AIX 6
3 UNIX media server incl. master server
2 Windows media servers
10 (LTO3) drives allocated for our Filers - fiber connected
With VMWare on the rise, I've been backing up RDM and VMFS volumes with FULL backups only. Mainly, I come in AFTER the volume on our filers has taken a snapshot of the VMWare clusters We have a script (for NBU) that will append/add the list of volumes to our policy (Backup Selection List). My concern is that our LTO tapes are being "eaten" up by these backups because we do complete FULL backups daily. Whereas, when these virtual machines/servers were once physical machines, which ALLOWED me to take INCREMENTAL backups, resulting in fewer tapes utilized. We're finding ourselves scrounging to look for scratches, weekly (sometimes daily). Ultimately I want to stay with tapes.
My questions are:
What is your recommendation (best-in-class) approach to relieve...

Symantec Workspace Corporate Demo Environment
Symantec Workspace Corporate is becoming more and more popular as people understand the value of fast user switching in a Virtual Desktop (VDI) environment. Because there is so much excitement around the product, many users are starting to install SWC in a lab environment. Symantec Workspace Corporate has always been designed and tested in production environments which leads to some interesting issues when setting up a system in a lab environment. This document addresses one of those issues.
Why Contact IT Help Desk Occurs
Symantec Workspace Corporate has been designed to enhance security at the endpoint. Systems that run as Internet applications like SWC are required to be trusted. In a production environment the user would have a valid certificate to assign to the Web site running SWC. Symantec Workspace Corporate ships with the ubiquitous selfssl certificate. This certificate is the primary reason for this error.
A part of using...

I have a user with a very peculiar problem. Every once in a while when he sends an e-mail he will lose part of the e-mail when he sends it. It's as if outlook decides to send an earlier draft of the e-mail. We have tried everything we can think of including moving his account to a different storage group, all new hardware, stripped down outlook and think it is somehow related to either a corrupt AD account or corrupt exchange account. The steps we want to take are.
1. Retain the old account
2. Create a new Account in AD with a new name and alias
3. Export all of his e-mail (including vaulted e-mail) and import it into the newly created account to his new account through an import export.
This user has been working for this company with e-mail access since 95 so you can imagine they have a lot of e-mail.
What is the best practive way to do this in EVault? I am really hoping we don't have to...

I am in the process of building a new notification server to replace our current server. The plan is to give the new server the same name and IP address as the current server and remove the current server from the network. I know that we would have to export custom reports and notifications. Anything else I should be aware of with this plan? Any suggestions or advice?

We manage HP Thin Clients (t5000 series) using Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9 SP3. I am looking to import them into CMDB on NS6 using the eXpress-database as data source. Is there a simpler or better built-in way of doing this?
I have created "Thin Client" as a new asset type in CMDB and used "Network Resource" as "Base Resource Type". I would like to add the Data Classes "AeX HW BIOS" and "OS Operating System Common" to my custom Thin Client asset type. I cloned both data classes and moved them to User Defined, but when I open the asset type Thin Client and click Add Data Classes, the User Defined folder appears to be empty.
I exported the cloned Data Classes to XML and changed <userEditable>false</userEditable> to <userEditable>true</userEditable>. After import the User Defined folder still appears empty. What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience in using the following group policy item to disable PST files in Outlook 2007?
Policy name: Prevent users from adding PSTs to Outlook profiles and/or prevent using Sharing-Exclusive PSTs
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook:
(default) PSTs can be added | No PSTs can be added | Only Sharing-Exclusive PSTs can be added:
RegKey: DisablePST (Values: 0,1,2)
By default, users can add PSTs to their Outlook profiles and can use Sharing-Exclusive PSTs for storing SharePoint Lists and Internet Calendars. You can use this setting to limit users' ability to store mail in a decentralized fashion. You can block the use of PSTs completely, but be aware that blocking all PSTs disables Outlook features such as SharePoint Lists and Internet Calendar.\n\nIf instead you allow only Sharing-Exclusive PSTs to be added to user profiles, PST usage is still limited but the Outlook features that rely on special PSTs are not disabled. The setting that...

I have a white paper from SUN on configuring ZFS for use as Netbackup DSUs. The example in the white paper shows one ZFS pool, with 4 filesystems. So when you do a 'df', each filesystem looks to have a total amount of space equal to the zfs pool total. So if I have 500gb in a ZFS pool, and 4 filesystems configured in that pool, a df will show EACH filesystem as having 500gb available. How does Netbackup handle this? The white paper makes no reference to utilize zfs reservation or quota on the DSU filesystems.
Thank you

Proactive threat Protection Needs more improvments as it is doing almost nothing. It should detect on behaviour of a file.Currently symantec is only depending upon signatures. Now irus writers are easily corrupting SEP and it can't even save itself.
SEP is failing to save itself also. A small program enters and easily destroys sep in a system. symantec should include some technology to protect all its files which are created during installation.
