This is an incredibly weird one, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. Basically we have an ultrium drive LTO2 which is backing up using Symantec Backup Exec 11d and ONLY every Thursday night does it produce the above error. All articles seem to point to Tape Drivers or RAID controllers but surely none of which apply if it happens so specifically on one night. Any idea's greatly appreciated.

Hi We're using Brightmail Message Filter  6.1.1.0 and we're having problems receiving mail from gmail.com. The weird thing is that 30-40% of e-mails sent from gmail.com arrives to the receiver, and the rest disappear. As a temporary solution we have added gmail.com to the accepted senders list. This has of course resulted in a lot of spam, because a lot of spammer authenticate as gmail.com. Any other domain works as expected as far as we're concern. How can we troubleshoot this?

We deployed SMSMSE 6.0.9.286 on a Windows Server 2003 server. We're using the File Filtering Rules, so we enabled the "Multimedia File Rule" which uses the "Sample Multimedia File Names" list to filter the messages (action: quarantine multimedia file attachments). It worked fine. Later we decided to allow *.MP3 and *.WAV files in the messages, so we removed these extensions from the "Sample Multimedia File Names" list. The problem is that after we deployed the changes on the SMSMSE the MP3 and WAV files are quarantined henceforward although we wanted to allow them in the messages. I tried this on an older version (v6.0.8.262) and it worked same way. In the "Sample Multimedia File Names.xml" (match type=wild cards) file I can see the changes - the *.MP3 and *.WAV extensions are missing - but the SMSMSE does not use correctly this configuration. Any help/idea?

I was offered a free download of Symantec through my graduate program, and downloaded it onto my boyfriend's HP laptop since I have a Mac and no security issues.  He has not been able to connect to the internet since.  I have tried every method of troubleshooting I can think of, but I'm just not that PC-savvy.  Unfortunately neither the guy at Radioshack (where he bought the computer) nor HP tech support can figure out the problem.  Both are blaming it on symantec, so I uninstalled it for him.  He still can't get online. I've turned his firewall off, that did nothing, I turned it back on that did nothing.  I've restarted the computer after each attempt to change whatever settings, but to no avail. The most frustrating thing is that he is connected to our wireless network and the connection is strong with all bars- he just can't get the browser to connect to the internet.  The guy at RS told him to re-install his browser- but how?  He...

I had a deployment job for the installation of pdf converter software functioning through a script and accidentally deleted the job.  I recreated the job, but now it does not seem to work through the deployment server.  I can, however, copy the script to a computer and run it succesfully from the command prompt, so I dont think the script is the problem.  The installaion of the software calls for ISScript10.Msi to be installed before the actual application,  Scansfot PDF Professional 3.0.msi.  ISScript10.msi and ScanSoft PDF Professional 3.0 both install successfully according to the Windows event log, but the application is not actually in Add/Remove programs, Programs Menu or in the toolbar of MS Office applications as it should be. BTW, I'm solely using the deployment web console. Thanks

When trying to select an OU for the AD Import I get the following error: An error occurred initializing the OU Picker: TreeViewCtrl 'ouPickerCtrl_TreeCtrl' cannot be found. This is a fresh install on a new server and I cannot figure out why it's not working. It worked perfectly on the old server. There were no errors during the installation...HELP!

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I know this has been touched upon a number of times but nothing I've read during my search has solved my problem. I've got at least 50 computers, all dell laptops, (latitude d610s, d620s, d630s) on the network that no longer communicate with the server.  The policy numbers incorporate dates from 2008 up through 2009 so I cannot even pinpoint a relative time that communication was lost.  It seems to be random.  There are a couple hundred other computers, same make and models, on the network running endpoint just fine.  None below version 11.0.4202.75 I've dropped and replaced dozens of sylink files manually and with the drop tool and replacer secars runs fine i can ping and telnet into the server there are enough outgoing connections ran sytoggle ran SEP support tool turned on debugging had symantec tech support analyze these files with no firm resolution I've tried...

i haven't been able to resolve this problem and it looks like have to resort to a forum. let me start  with a run down of the configs, the problem at short, and then a detailed description of the problem... using backup exec 12 using windows standard 2003 using aofo running full backups recently updated no exchange just a file and ad server. using dell powervault for backup device using 400/800GB lto ultrium 3 data tape cartridge here's the problem... we have to switch two tapes in order for a backup to complete. recently the server storage has been exponentially growing because more pdf's are being made. when i switch to the second tape it fails with an unknown error. here's the problem in detail... on monday morning i insert mondays tape. the job is scheduled to start at 7pm monday night. on tuesday at 9am the tape is ejected from the tape drive and the job status is " ? loading media"  i insert  the second tape and it runs for sometime, suddenly...

On a machine running WinXP Pro sp3,  LiveState Recovery Desktop 3.03 had been running just fine.  Now when it tries to run the scheduled backup it hangs at 5% and never finishes.  No errors are put in the log or events history.  I tried uninstalling all Symantec products (it also has Symantec Anti-virus) and re-installing.  I even ran a registry cleaner to try and get rid of any old Symantec entries.  It will re-install just fine, however it still hangs at 5% when creating the system image.  We use LiveState Recovery 3.03 on 2 other machines and they are working just fine.  Does anyone know how to correct this issue or what could be the cause???

Hello, We have this error from time to time, but it usually fixes itself without any end user intervention.  However I am getting this error three nights in a row now on one of our domain controllers.  This started happening on Wed morning, and continued through Friday morning.  In all three instances the error message in the log is: Job ended: Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:18:54 AM Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied. Final error category: Security Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33928 Errors Click an error below to locate it in the job log  Backup- \\dc1.domain.com\System?State V-79-57344-33928 - Unable to complete the operation for the selected resource using the specified options. backupexec 11d rev7170,sp4 with hotfix 62-65 on Windows 2003 sp2 server that (encrypted) backups to a USB hard drive on a nightly basis. Every Friday the plan was to use a duplicate job to copy the last nights backup to a secondary drive for longer retention. Backup selection list includes file, system state, exchange and sql database. However we get "Final error: 0xe0000f0c - An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job. Final error category: Job Errors An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job. The link refers to http://www.symantec.com/business/support/knowledge... This talks about GRT, Restores or Netware - none of which apply in this case. Both the duplicate and the FridayBackup use encryption - I had them using the same encryption key, different keys but get the same error. I did a test backup of a small selection of files and set up a duplicate job in the same manner as the existing job and this worked fine. Any...

I have 5 servers with SEP Manager  and much of SEP clients (500-600). Servers and clients are in separate environment (without Internet). I weekly updated definitions but some of clients aren't up to date. Their definions are with one month late. In SEPM console some of these computers have green sign and I can connect with them. Do you have a method that remotely force update these computers?

This error occurs when restoring an image to different hardware. I select "Restore Anywhere". The error occurs at the end of the write operation (99%). The source image is windows2003std with dynamic disk and software raid. I'm not sure whether BESR 8.5.5 have supportted dynamic disk and software raid or not. Any idea?

We're using Backup Exec 10d SP4, backing up 8 servers (including the server with BEX installed on it). A remote server, which does have a BEX agent, has 3 SQL instances on it using different logon credentials. Instances "CP" and "PM" are fine with the same "domain\backup" user that has rights to the server, so they are not specifically given a different logon account than the server has in general. But the third instance, "PROFXENGAGEMENT", has a unique logon provided by the software vendor that wrote the application, so we have specifically input this Logon Account with the name "sa" and the password we were given. When I click the "Test All" button, I get "Successful" on the server and all three SQL instances. But when I run the job at night, I get the following error: JOB COMPLETION STATUS Job ended: Monday, October 12, 2009 at 11:02:49 PM Completed status: Completed with exceptions...

For some background, I have had trouble with some annoying "Unexpected server error. ErrorCode: 0x10010000" events.  To attempt and fix this issue, I ran the Management Server Configuration Wizard (which I saw, in various forums, could remedy this error code).  I went through the wizard and selected embedded database (since this is what I have always used for my database) placed a password for my database and left the rest of the settings at the default.  Now when I attempt to login to the Management Console, I get the message "Failed to connect to the server" and I cannot do anything.       When I try and run the Management Server Configuration Wizard again, I cannot get past the place where it asks me for my port that the embedded database server uses.  I have tried the various ports that I thought it should be and left the default.  How do I find out the port that my...

Hi, I'm having alot of problems ghosting my Compaq 615 laptops, the original problem was using a boot CD ghost.exe failed to load, timing out after approx half an hour, and so far have been unable to save an error log because we use CDs, I've tried all versions of boot disk OS and had little results so have moved onto PXE boot which works fine expect... My problem lies in the PXE boot, it launches ghost.exe and gets an IP address from DHCP great! However when I go into GhostCast (or local) it fails to find the hard disk giving the error "No valid source drive to choose (11032)" and returns to the ghost menu. I have tried modifying the SATA mode to ACHI / IDE, using ACHI mode i can see the hard disk however will cause corruptipn to the Win XP OS im taking an image of, IDE wont show a valid hard disk. I have tried to make an error file by using CTRL + C however I cant work out how to get it off the client machine to post it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated Chris...

Hello, we are using Storage foundation 3.2.539 on a server 2000 Operating System, which mainly controlled a SAN via Fiber Channel; the SAN consisted of 2 JBOD's with an Embedded RaidWatch Software called RaidWatch. The server 2000 server in which storage foundation was installed and configured on crashed, we are in the process to attempt to recover but we are in need of access to the SAN.  We installed new drives to install a fresh operating system. We had the SAN configured with disk groups and within the disk groups we had disks to partitions, the question I have is that since Storage foundation was the software used to configure the SAN storage to a disk/partition level. If we install the same storage foundation software and attempt to hook the SAN back up, will we loose the SAN? if not what are the steps to take.I ask this because I'm not sure where the actual data is held on which the SAN was configured on the server side or JBOD side. The Raidwatch is...

This is my first time to actually need to do a restore.  I did everything I could to make sure my backup is valid, i.e. check logs for succes and verify images.  All turned out fine.  However when I did the restore, it ran into an error that said: Abort details output to GHOSTERR.TXT General Protection fault in RMCB at eip=33abf; flags=3016 eax=000a0001 ebx=00001246 ecx=00000000 edx=0000000a esi=00001826 edi=000a8e48 ebp=0000000d esp=000a8db4 cs=af ds=3b es=8f fs=33 gs=bf ss=8f error=0000 I can view the image via the Ghost explorer so I know the backup image is fine.  Any ideas what to do next?

We have 150 licenses for use with the Altiris Recovery Solution.  We upgraded to version 6.2.2801 a little while back and have been having consistent issues since that time.  We intially had an (re-)install type screen popping   up on every machine that previously had the client installed.  We made it past that issue, however we do not want this to happen again... We have approximately 40 PC's that SHOULD have the agent installed to them and be being backed up, however, the Altiris reports 141 licenses IN-USE.  By using the pre-created report "," there are 132 computers with the agent installed.  How are more licenses in-use than agents installed?  How do I correct this and remove the agent silently from those 90+ machines that should not be being backed up?  I do not want end-users to know that the client is being touched (removed). A second issue is space contstraints that we have recently...

Hi, we just got a Dell Precision M6400 in.  It appears that the Linux automation does not like the Broadcom 57xx nic that is in this machine (which is odd because we have other older machines that work fine with the Broadcom 57xx drivers).  If I boot the machine to DOS the UNDI driver works fine which leads me to believe that the nic is fine. Does anyone know if there are other drivers out there that may work better?  I went to Dell's website as well as Broadcom's website and neither of them seem to provide drivers in .ko format which is what Altiris Boot Disk Creator needs.  Broadcom's website also indicates that the "bnx2" driver should be sufficient, however, it is not working in my case. Any ideas? Other information:  We are running 6.9 SP1 MP1  (6.9.366)

Recently, backup jobs have started failing with this error message: Job name : Weekday Backups Job type : Backup Job status : Failed Job log : C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEX02240.xml Server name : SPOT Selection list name : Daily Backup Device name : CERTANCE 1 Target name : CERTANCE 2 [0001..0005] Media set name : Weekday Backups Error category : Resource Errors Error : a000fe1f - The device cannot be found. As far as I know, nothing else has changed about our backups. I tried to update to service pack 5, hoping that would fix the problem.  I don't get any error messages when I do.  But when I check "About-> Help" in Backup Exec, it still says I'm using version 9.1 rev 4691
