Basically there are three components in SEP 1: AV/AS - basic component needed 2: PTP - It is not desgined to work on server OS.It will install fine on a server OS, but always stay off.Hence its better not to install it at first ...

I think autoruns from sysinternals is also a really good tool and the best thing about autoruns is, it gives you various tab for different locations...like schedules tasks, services etc.

By local SEP server do you mean, the server where you have SEP or SEPM installed. If all the clients are managed, then they will automatically take definitions from SEPM server and not from Symantec server.
