The GOLD version is pretty much the production version.  You might see a update or two come through LiveUpdate but it is not expected for FA users to have to do an upgrade of GOLD.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to un-install WOW64.  You just have to use the 64-bit version of the Placeholder install.  WOW64 functionality would only be used if you install a 32-bit app. But I will verify this and report ...

Microsoft Cluster Server included with Windows Server 2008 x64 R2 SP1 is still listed as Pending Certification.   Only Windows Server 2008 x64 SP1, SP2 and base R2 are certified at this time.

You will start to see this in EV 8.0 SP4 (will require .NET 3.5) and in EV 9.0. There will be a section in the GUI that will give warnings and errors based on a number of criteria.  Backup Status and Pending Items will be among them.

As the Don mentioned, it is a copy / copy back procedure.  If it fails, it does not do the copy back and so the original is still there. If you re-run, it will start over from scratch, so you have the possiblity of duplicate items.
