So excluding the file should cause no problems then should a restore ever need to be done of exchange, since the mailboxes and the information store are being backup up successfully?

Done, but as the problem only occurs once every couple of weeks whether or not this did anything is yet to be seen. The exchange server is local to the drive though, which has not been addressed in this article. Anything further?
