Great Introduction. We need
CMDB stand for
CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT DATABASE
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Configuration_management_database
But I like a lot also your definition: "Common Management Database" :)
Any way, in ITIL v3, it is renamed 'CMS', for "Configuration Management System", because they are thinking not possible to get one database for all this stuff !!!
Just an Altiris guys should join the ITSMF, to show them it is possible ;-P
Of course, CMS is not a good name for Altiris people, so we will keep CMDB. After all, Altiris is perhaps the single vendor being able to build a full DMTF/ITIL 'CMS' single Database, with full & true CI inheritance capabilities.
Well, need a strong SQL, with 5 to 6 quick disk, big memory, dedicated, ... Seems also some SQL guru guys should also join the Altiris team, to make some reviews most the SQL code running a NS :(
~Pascal @ Bechtle~ Do you speak French? Et utilisez Altiris: venez nous rejoindre sur le GUASF&l
