Hi Dushan,

DEFINITELY get up to LUA 2.3.1 if you are still running anything older.  The older versions have known issues and security vulnerabilities.

You might need to uninstall your present LUA 2.1 and perform a fresh install of 2.3.1 as the oldest version you can upgrade directly from is 2.2.2.9.  (I suppose you could upgrade is a couple of hops, but it will probably be simpler just to perform clean install.)

Cheers again, and all the best!

Wow, this is cool, so at the moment in my new company that I'm working now I got the task to upgrade the LUA from v2.1 into v2.3 the latest, so what is the catch and what to do before the upgrade process ?

I called support and kinda got the run-around, between them and licensing, trying to get LUA 2.3. Also, I don't really have an account, since I've not purchased any corporate software yet. I have the beta for SEP12, and wanted to get LUA 2.3, for a new server I'm setting up. Is there a special/specific number I can call and say "I want to download LUA 2.3"? Is that what the rest of you did?

Thanks!,

Jeremy

Hi,

Looks like there is a bug in the selection of Products in LUA 2.3.

Example : in the Configuration of a Distribution Center, Add a Product.

If you tick on the product name ( Symantec AntiVirus for Linux 1.0.5 English or Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0 French )

An you un-tick something under this product ( Avenge MicroDefs25 SavCorp10 Linux Virus Definitions )

It will still Add 'Avenge MicroDefs25 SavCorp10 Linux Virus Definitions' in the product list.

Got a link after 45 minutes

Please add monitoring similar to the GUP monitoring tool.

Please add AD/LDAP authentication for logging in.

Please add LUA to Protection Center

Please add the ability to police bandwidth used by transfer rate instead of percentage of total adapter similar to the GUP.

I called support today and they created a case. Now waiting for the engineer to pickup to take my case. 30+ minutes and counting for a simple download link. Wow.

Mar 24, 2011 08:51 AM

Thanks again for your assistance Graham.  I did install it, and now my Distribution Center is completing.  Now, if this fixes my main issue all along, updating my SEP for MAC clients, I'll be a happy man.

Mar 23, 2011 11:41 AM

Today I called the french support in order to get LUA 2.3, but after the third contactr and more than 30 minutes at the phone, it simply hang up..

Is there an other way to get the informations to download LUA 2.3 ?

Thanks,

Jérôme

Finally, I recalled the support and I get a link.. total time to get a link 50min ! :/

Hi, thx for letting me know.

Rest assured that is NOT accurate! LUA 2.3 is officially released and ready for customers to use. There are no new bugs as it seems you may have been told. If you send me the support case number, I'll get that sorted for you.

I'll also contact you direct to ensure you get the download details for the software.

Thanks.

Mar 22, 2011 02:23 PM

I called Support yesterday and asked them for the link to download this and they said there were some new bugs and it was not ready for distribution and could not provide me a location to download it.

Not sure if this is accurate or not, but it's what I was told.

I have been working with the Beta of LUA 2.3 for a while now: it is an absolute "must have" for all companies currently on LUA 2.2.2.9 or before.  The new release is especially recommended for its option to automatically distribute content as soon as it is downloaded.

Many thanks, Graham!

Good q Ian,

If you have already tweaked some settings, they will be overwritten, so you could save the relevant files first and put them back in place after upgrade if you wish. That said, one of the ideas of LUA 2.3 was to ensure it was good to go out of the box, so the main config tweaks Symantec have published over time re LUA's DB and web server are included by default after you install or upgrade to LUA 2.3. So in short, I'd suggest saving your files to play safe, but then upgrade and check overall LUA behaviour and performance, hopefully it is good by default.

If there are certain tweaks that you find work well (that LUA 2.3 doesnt make by default), pls let me know, we'll assess and consider for inclusion in the next release of LUA 2.x.

Re the LUA warning dialog, I agree it should be clickable, but due to the limitations of such Windows dialogs, you cant add hyperlink. Sure there are other ways we could approach this and we may do that for next release, but for right now, I'd class the hyperlink inclusion as a nice to have :-)

Mar 17, 2011 07:28 PM

We're now planning for what will go into the next LUA release after 2.3 so all suggestions and feedback welcomed!

Mar 17, 2011 07:27 PM

From Mon next week (21 Mar), you should be able to get the LUA 2.3 software by contacting Symantec Technical Support.

Mar 17, 2011 05:32 PM

One more time to prove that Symantec does liten to their customer, I have another request, hope LUA development team can include that into future version, have LUA accounts syncing with AD so that  we can use directory authentication.

Mar 17, 2011 05:24 PM

This is what I have been waiting for, for quite a while now.   Where do I get the new version?

Mar 17, 2011 05:22 PM

Two comments about the product.

  • When doing an inplace upgrade over v2.2.9, what happens to my previous settings vs. the new optimised settings for Tomcat, DB, etc (12:45min+ in video)?

  • The link about warning when installing LUA on the same box as SEPM should be clickable (20:41min in the video)

Having had to rebuild my LUA server numerous time over the course of the past few years...the features in 2.3 (such as saving the configuration in case of a disaster) are very exciting. Because I know that others will be wondering...I'll be the one to ask, any rough guess on a release date?

Thanks again!!

-Mike
