Just left my company, have a drive with .fbf files, want to install just the client so I can access and recover those files
Thank you
Jeff
Just left Symantec yesterday, was Director of Federal Consulting in US. Have an external drive with some fbf files I am trying to recover. Ghost woun't recover the .fbf files so I download trial Backup Exec, trying to download the client so I can recover those .fbf files. Will this approach work? Where on DVD iso is the client installation only?
If above won't work any suggestions? Thank You!
Jeff
I do not think that NBU-BMR would be helpful to protect if it is only external drive. In this case BE would be a good option rather than NBU as you will need NBU whole setup (master server, media server and client) to be prepared and it is best suited for enterprise level protection.
Do you have BE backup of you .fbf files or whole disk? If yes you may recover them back. BE experts can comment on this.
Thanks.

HI mandar
You have shared a superb VDO. I would like to ask a question regarding DSR restore of BMR.
Is that possible that we can also change the name of the Target Machine while DSR restore of BMR
Any comment will be appreciated. Mark as Solution if your query is resolved

No. We can not change the machine name. BMR is actually not meant for provisioning. :-)
Its main purpose is to recover a machine back to its working state. Changing machine name may start failing some applications on that client which were dependent on machine name.
But still someone can change machine name manually after bmr restore.
Thanks.

This was a very good video Mandar & Bestin. Thanks for Sharing the same.
It clarifies how to do P2V using BMR. Its quite neat using BMR to do a Physical to Virtual Restore.
Hi Mandar ,
It's extremely helpful video with good explanation .Actually we had some doubts in DSR but now your cleared our doubts...
Thank u for sharing....
Thank you very much Mr. Mandar. Its very good video clip.
Do you have any idea on BMR Restore with HP Blade servers.
HP Blade servers working Internal Cisco Switch.
Master Server : Netbackup 7.0.1 (Windows 2008 R2 Ent).
Client : Windows 2003 64-bit and Windows 2008 R2.
Hi Venkata,
This configuration should be supported by BMR and even DSR should work.
Are you facing any issue? Or any specific query you have?
Thanks.

Hi Azmir,
NBU/BMR 7.0.1 supports:
- W2k8/R2 physical to physical BMRrestore
- w2k8/R2 physical to virtual BMR restore
- w2k8/R2 Virtual to Physical BMR restore
- w2k8/R2 Virtual to Virtual BMR restore
These combinations work for both 32 and 64-bit W2k8.
Thanks.

Question resolved. Great Demo!
Hello,
Zahid we R glad U r back (he had helped me soo many times)
I have done some DSR w/ the source server UP (changind the IP) the FQN I'm still having problems.
even physical to virtual, I have made our DEV. evnironment by cloning the prodution servers to VMWare
Really, Bare Metal Restore is the greater diferential feature of netbackup.
I have not tested w/ a non windows environment but really great.
I can't imagine a netbackup invirronmente without a bmr/pxe server
it really works

HI Mandar ..
Reaky nice expanation ..Thnaks for the post.
When i trying to restore DL380 to virtual restores getting failed to verify backup error.
just trying with static Ip mapping, dont have DHCP server in our env.
when i tried to discover taegt virtual machine job stil in queue status.
manully discovered target machine thru iso bootable image and transfered hardware info to master server..
Need your suggestion to resolve the issue.
Thanks vadivelsj for your positive feedback. I appreciate.
This error can happen when you have registered your netbackup policy with short client name and your host name resolution giving full domain name.
Is it the case in your setup?
In this case what happens is BMR recovery environment sets client ip to its short name and when client tries to check backup avaialbility with nb master; nb master fails that request.
please confirm if this is the case.
Also requesting you to open up a new thread on this problem. Please can you do that.
thanks.
