About a few directories in SEPM server

创建时间: 05 10 月 2012 | 6 条评论

Hi All,

I would like get the following clarified...

There are folders like sesmvirdef32 / 64 and sesmipsdef32 / 64 in common files\symantec shared\symc data.

1. May I know where are these used?

2. Are these pertaining to SEP clients are SEPM server?

3. Is there any correlation between these files and the dates shown in SEPM home tab and "show live update downloads" in admin tab?

Secondly,

There are two SEPMs that are in a loadbalancing configuration using a remote SQL cluster. One of the SEPMs is actually updated with latest definitions (I confirmed this by browsing the folders like symcdata and inetpub\content\monikers), while the other one is not updated to recent definitions (out dated by a week).

However, both these SEPMs show the same dates in their home tabs "Latest Manager Version" and on their admin tabs (Show live update downloads). Is this normal? I believe this information is fetched from a database table and shown up on SEPM home and admin tabs, Am I correct on this?

Why would both these SEPMs show latest dates, while one of them is actually outdated?

Regards,

Elango M.

Hello,

1- As i know, these files are Liveupdate's cache/update folder for SEPM but not the folder for publishing contents the clients. When updates downloaded to these folder then manager services create downloadable ones for clients into the "SEPM Folder\Inetpub\Content\" folder.

2- These files only available in the SEPM servers.

3-As i know again, these informations are catching from SEPM/Inetpub/Content folder.

About your second question,

Both managers are connected to same SQL server and they're using same data, first that's why you see in Home page are looking updated, secondly just one SEPM enough for getting updates from internet, after that it automatically push the updates to the other one,but maybe there are some bandwith issues between 2 Manager and SQL so it may take a while to get updates. For pushing updates, just type "luall" in the run and complete the steps.

Hi Elango,

You're correct. The information displayed on your SEPMs console corresponds to what it's written on your SQL Database.

For the definitions updates available on your SEPMs it will correspond to the sem5_content table

As they're using the same SQL Server then it's an expected behavior that they display the same information.

Hi, does this also means that by default, installing SEP client on the SEPM server itself, it should not causing any issue and performance ?

You can install a SEP client on your server John.

Full protection is still better and more safe.

At least if you're afraid about the performances because there are a lot of network/job application which are used from the server and might generate an important traffic & flux, there is by default "Basic Protection for Servers" which contains only AV/AS.

Or custom package with AV/AS and PTP (probably the most optimized choice if you're afraid of the performance cause of NTP).

Always strongly recommended to protect your server including the one where the SEPM is installed ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion, now I understand fully that this "Basic Protection for Servers" is builtin profile which only installs AV component :-)

so I can select this one then by default.
