hi

I have a customer who uses NetApp and wants to use EV for File System Archiving. They used mixed mode security styles that allows them to present the same volumes for Windows and Linux users. So if EV is configured to archive files through the NetApp CIFS integration what happens to a Linux user who tries to access a file that has been archived?

From a Linux perspective what will the placeholder look like and what happens when they try to open the file?

kind regards

Hi KeirL,

Please, take a look at this forum post:

Hi Gabe

Many thanks - I missed that post when I was scanning for similar questions. That comment was nearly three years ago so just to confirm, Symantec are still in the same position today?

thanks for the reply

KL,

If your Linux users are accessing the NetApp volumes through the CIFS protocol, the PHs recall might work since the offline attribute is present and we can capture that call through fpolicy. However, keep in mind that Linux client access is not supported yet. From a NFS perspective, it might not work due to the same reasons explained in that post. At this point, EV archiving for NFS is accomplished through a third party tool from Vault Solutions called Archive Accelerator for NFS, which would replace the file by a symbolic link (or shortcut). You can get more details from the compatibility guide:

To be honest, since the Linux clients are not supported, this is something you might need to test on your environment.

I hope this helps !!
