Hi ALL,

Please can someone clear my doubts:(catch to the concept)

  1. If i delete my storagt unit from GUI right click and delete. So in that case my drives will also will be deleted from NBU?
  2. If my library is replaced.a new library is being attached. What is the process to remove all old entries from NBU?
  3. In point 2,I have to delete my robot, drives and storage unit?
  4. How to check Cache memory size of media server in case of deduplication?Media server stores the data in its cache and check with the data domain. If unique, then only send.
  5. command to check NBU EMM memory space

1. No.

2. See https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/library-replaced

3. Yes. See above link

4. No idea. Why do you need to know this?

5. Memory or disk space?
If disk space, see NBU Admin Guide I for 'Parts of the NetBackup catalog'. Locate the files (see manual for location) and check sizes with 'ls -l' at OS level.

You need to start the services.

If there are no other drives / roboots on this master server than you have mentioned above, I would just delete them and readd the library in the device wizard.

1. nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords

With above command all my old devices will be deleted. And in NBU console i will not see any storage devices?

or i have to manually delete all of them and then run the command?

Have you made any attempt to Google this command?

I found quite a number of TNs when I typed this in the Google search bar:
site:symantec.com netbackup nbemmcmd deletealldevices allrecords

The command will do what it says - delete all devices.
You need to restart ltid on all media servers to take effect and reflect changes in NBU console.

After i run this nbemmcmd deletealldevices allrecords

and restart my ltid, then under my storage unit tab on GUI and on robot and drives tab ,I will have nothing(empty, blank) ?

No, "nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords" removes strorage devices on EMM. It does not remove storage unit. Do you understand difference beween devices and storage unit?

All the devices in EMM will be removed, but you have to remove storage unit manually. Also note that you should move volumes outside(uncheck 'volumes in a robotic library') before you remove devices. This command does not update volume database.

tpconfig delete and then nbemmcmd -delete?

Yasuhisa Ishikawa 的图片

No. Why do you run "nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords"? I believe you feel bored running "tpconfig -delete" for each devices. Only fire "nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords".

What makes you think that a command that contains:

'deletealldevices' and 'allrecords' doesn't do what it says ?

I know I have explained this before ...

Seems asking unneccessary questions is a way to gather points..... No points for doing own research and applying logic.

just this last doubt, then i will move this to solution

Removing drives will not affect storage units.

nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords command will do exactly what it says.

@Martin: So i just run this command

nbemm deletealldevice:

Thats it.

No need to go on each storage unit and drive to delete them manually separately.right click and delete

NIKHIL, Why do you repeat questions that have been answered before?

Did you not believe Yasuhisa in this post? https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/little-queries#comment-7823011

I'm sorry, but even I am struggling to work out how you think about things.

Firstly, I have edited my above post to show the full command, as I posted a short version as I kinda figured that youd work out that I was referring to the 'full' version that has been posted several times already.

So one last time nbemmcmd -deletealldevices -allrecords does exactly what it says  - it deletes all devices.

Now, does it mention anything about storage units, no, so quite clearly it does not touch /delete /edit /tickle /poke-in-the-ribs /slap-round-the-chops or otherwise interfere with storage units.

Devices, as you figured out yourself a while back are ONLY held in EMM.  NOTHING is stored in the NBU console.  the console only 'looks' in EMM and shows what is there.

The command deletes ALL tape/ robot devices from EMM.

Therefore, do you think there is anything else to delete ?  (apart from the storage units).

Or put another way, if the devices are ONLY held in EMM, if you delete them from EMM, what makes  you think they are still going to be displayed in the GUI ???

"Little queries"     sad

If this post has helped you, please vote or mark as solution.

Before break-up, make sure you have a good backup.....  ;-)

I REALLY give up... .

'deletealldevices'  followed by ltid restart WILL delete ALL devices (robot, tape drives) NOT Storage Units (which are logical entities and not physical devices). so devices wil no longer be seen in GUI.

If you still do not understand, I have bad news.... you are in the wrong job, my friend...
