How about an option in SEPM to run command on client to update sylink.xml?

It will be very helpful if there is an option available in SEPM itself to runcommand on client/group to update the sylink.xml file on the client based on the host name of the client.

There will be a few restrictions for this option to work, the user neeed to login to SEPM locally and the user should be logged in to Windows as a domain administrator. But it will be good to have such an option that not having it at all.

Note: The normal "Run command on client" option will work only on clients that are online with SEPM. but this one will have to work on offline clients also.

Such an option will be very useful in troubleshooting communication issues, where a clients was already reporting to SEPM but lost connectivity and in troubleshooting content distribution issues. Also, this will save time and complexity in using the sylinkreplacer utility in networks with large number of groups in SEPM with different policies and in networks where computers of same subnet reports to different groups in SEPM.

Any possiblities....!

If the client is talking to SEPM then you don't need to run a command to update the sylink file.  The sylink.xml file will be automatically updated by simply updating the Management Server List on SEPM.

If the client cannot talk to SEPM then in our upcoming release SEP 12.1.2 we have the ability to update the sylink.xml file from SEPM using the Windows administrator account.

We also have included the SylinkDrop tool in all SEP 12.1 versions and newer.  This tool has a command line option which can be used to update the sylink file.
