How can I protect my kids?
The Internet can sometimes be a nasty place with porn, predators and piracy, but there are ways to keep your kids safe.
While specialist software is available to filter out dangerous sites and applications, this is no substitute for frequent parental involvement and time spent in educating your kids in what is sensible and appropriate online behaviour.
Here are the basic rules to teach your children from an early age.
- Don't talk to strangers. Small children shouldn't have their own email account and older kids need to know not to share their email address (or Instant Messaging details) with other people without checking with a parent first.
- Do the right thing. Downloading pirate software and music is illegal, just like stealing from your local CD store.
- If you don't understand something, ask. Encourage your kids to check with you if they encounter something on the PC that confuses or disturbs them.
