Our History

Our History

While the Chennai center was recently inaugurated in April 2007, Symantec's Pune center has been around for more than a decade.

The Pune center was first opened by Symantec (then Veritas) in 1994 through a partner company and was one of the earliest product development centers in India. In the early years, the center focused on porting, testing and maintenance activities.

Very quickly, Veritas realized the quality of the talent base in India and decided to leverage the India center for more complex product development. By 1996, the center had started working on an expansive product range.

In 1998, the partner company was acquired by Veritas.

By 1999, Veritas released key components like Cluster File System and Dynamic Multipathing which became integral to our Storage Foundation product.

In 2001 the Tech Support function was launched and by 2002, all major Veritas products had significant R&D operations in India.

From its early days, the company had been strategically focusing on innovation. By 2003, 30% of global patents for Veritas came from India.

In 2005, Symantec and Veritas merged and a number of security products started to get developed out of India.

In 2007, Symantec opened its second India R&D center at Chennai.
