Visionary Award

For the past three years, industry leaders from around the world have been recognized at Symantec's annual Vision conferences for their innovative use of Symantec solutions to protect their infrastructure and information and achieve business value. At the 2006 Vision event in Korea last year, four Visionaries were recognized-Kyunghee Kim, the Team Leader at the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs; Joongwon Kwon, the Managing Director of Business Planning at LIG Insurance; Kangwon Seo, the CIO at Korea Broadcasting System; and Jinseol Yang, the CIO at Samsung Life Insurance.
At the Vision event in Seoul, South Korea on October 11, four additional Symantec Visionaries were recognized by Moon-Seok Yoon, Symantec president for the Korea region, and Bernard Kwok, Symantec senior vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan.

Nominations for the 2007 Symantec Visionary Awards were accepted from the Symantec sales and services organizations around the world, with more than 70 customers submitted. The nominations were evaluated based on technology innovation, business value impact, and involvement of Symantec partners and services. "This year's Visionary Award winners come from a variety of different sectors, representing the value Symantec delivers to a number of organizations across Korea," said Moon-Seok Yoon, Korea country manager, Symantec. "Symantec's commitment to enabling confidence in a connected world, by protecting our customers' infrastructure, information, and interactions, is helping organizations manage cost, complexity and compliance while also maximizing IT performance."

The 2007 Korea Visionaries are Kyu-Hyeong Lee, CIO of Gravity Co., Ltd.; Hun-Ki Park, CIO of GS Home Shopping; Jung-Won Seo, CIO of Daegu Bank; and Hang-Bum Shin, CIO for Lotte Data Communication Company.

Gaming company slashes server provisioning and backup time and protects players' data for seamless uptime
Gravity Co., Ltd. CIO Kyu-Hyeong Lee oversees the IT systems supporting armies of gamers in more than 21 markets across six continents. He is recognized for his technology thought leadership in helping Gravity to accommodate growing data volumes, expanding server inventories, and new regulations. The different initiatives under his watch include solutions for server provisioning, backup and recovery, and email archiving. The results Mr. Lee and his team have achieved are quite impressive. They include an 83 percent reduction in the time required to provision servers, no data loss in three years, a 96 percent cut in backup administration time, and a 100 percent reduction in email storage.

These include a 200 percent reduction in failover time, 99.999 percent system availability, and a 30 percent improvement in server performance, with the latter equating to approximately $320,000 (US$) in hardware cost avoidance.

Daegu Bank CIO Jung-Wong Seo oversees the IT systems that deliver services to 2.5 million customers comprising 40 percent of the population of Daegu. Conglomerate standardizes hundreds of servers, saves millions of dollars
The charter for Lotte Data Communication Company (LDCC) CIO Hang-Bum Shin encompasses IT systems support for 52 different global business subsidiaries for the fifth largest brand in Korea representing more than $3.3 billion (US$) in annual revenue. Mr. Shin and his team oversee nearly 1,000 servers and over 100 different storage systems and devices in different silos supporting each of the different subsidiaries for Lotte Group. Mr. Shin led his team on a data center standardization initiative focused on lower cost and complexity and improved operational efficiencies. Results of the solution, which combined Veritas NetBackup and consulting assistance from Symantec Partner MAJORTECH, includes a projected operational savings of $5 million (US$) and hardware savings of approximately $3 million (US$).
